The four legislative leaders are scheduled to meet in Chicago Friday to discuss a possible compromise funding bill. But Madigan said Wednesday he isn’t sure Rauner wants to compromise. Madigan said he and House Republican Leader Jim Durkin of Western Springs began meeting last week, and Madigan said he offered a “compromise proposal to Rep. Durkin which he took back to the governor. The governor rejected the proposal.”
“I have a serious doubt that Governor Rauner wants any kind of agreement on this issue,” Madigan said. […]
Rauner’s office denied getting a compromise proposal.
“This is absolutely false,” said spokeswoman Laurel Patrick. “The governor has received no offer of compromise from the Speaker through Leader Durkin. In fact, Gov. Rauner has been calling for compromise for weeks now and has reiterated this call daily since.”
* I asked Leader Durkin’s office for a comment and here’s what they sent…

Madigan isn’t known for lying. I think we’re going to need some more info and some further clarification before we know the real story here.

Durkin’s cryptic response tells me something’s up. Madigan might be a lot of things, but one thing he’s not is a liar.

Note that Durkin’s office didn’t say Madigan lied. They said Madigan was inaccurate. My hunch is that what Madigan thought happened, didn’t.

If Rainer has been asking for compromise for weeks why did he never disclose anything in his ammend veto until he did the veto? doesnt seem like compromise if you hide what you want from the otherside.
Rauner “want to buy a house”
Owner “Great iasking is 150 what is your offer?”
Rauner “Ill wait until after you close with another buyer to let you know”

If you notice, the language from the Governor’s Office is much stronger than Durkin’s statement.
Also, “In fact, Gov. Rauner has been calling for compromise for weeks now and has reiterated this call daily since.” This hyperventilation from a governor that rejected 90% of what he wanted…

Could be semantics actually. Perhaps the Speaker, the Governor and the Leader all have a slightly, or more than slight difference over the definition of what comprises a compromise.
Time to ratchet down the noise and clearly agree on what the word and deed mean. I’m guessing that’s what the Leader was trying to do. Tug o War is most unpleasant for the rope.

Perhaps the Governor ought to do his job and convene a leaders’ meeting. Then he wouldn’t need an errand boy to tell him what Madigan is offering (or maybe not tell him).

It is fairly easy to read between the lines. The Minority Leader just informed the Speaker that the Speaker’s proposal did not reach the Governor.

Let’s hear what the offer was, if there was one.
It would not be too much of a stretch to assume the offer involved even more sanctification of CPS through typical Madigan leverage and language. /s

Rauner cannot call a meeting and be in a room with somebody who considers him his equal. His ego won’t allow it. He cannot deal with somebody who is not yes man.

Porgy…exactly. Madigan and Cullerton cant be fired and aren’t bought and paid for by Rauner. Brady and Durkin are his latest errand boys and are expendable to him.

–Madigan claimed that, over the weekend, a proposal was made to resolve the SB1 issue, but when Leader Durkin took it to the governor, Rauner rejected it.
When told that House Republican Leader Jim Durkin said today the leaders were “close” to an agreement, Madigan said, “I would expect that Mr. Durkin would say that and I wouldn’t be surprised if he and I were close. The better question is ‘What about Mr. Rauner?’”–
So yesterday Durkin said he and Madigan were close to a deal.
Durkin didn’t inform Rauner about that?
Seems odd.
