  21. There really are only two people who live/work in Illinois who can put Kennedy into contention, but Kennedy doesn’t have the political courage to pick either. Those two would be Phelps or Vandermyde.

A strong pro-gun running mate would be the one move that could actually expand the IL Democratic Party, and both (particularly Todd) are friends of labor.

Kennedy instead will choose a Sanders supporter that nobody cares about and who will fail to generate any interest, and he will finish a distant third in the primary if he makes the ballot at all.

He had a respectable third-place finish in his run for mayor.

And he has a net worth of about $70 million.

Kennedy needs a running mate who brings a lot of cash to the equation, and that almost certainly means someone from the business community that is a traditional Democrat. Cross off all of the white males from Chicago metro area and you have a pretty good list to work from.

Certainly mitigate a lot of concerns downstaters have about most of the democrat candidates. Maybe even enough to tip the democrats over the top. Very interesting suggestion…

There are a lot of us traditional Republicans who are very dissatisfied with Rauner and are seeking an acceptable alternative. Ideally, a different Republican or a moderate, pro-2nd amendment democrat.
