  1. Next to Burke’s daughter, Drury looks pretty good.
    Kwame looks better, however.

  2. That’s not fair to Alex Hirsch. The groundswell for Hirsch for Lt Gov was just beginning.

    ….no he doesn’t.

  4. If he runs for AG on an anti-Speaker platform, wouldn’t that mean he might have to recuse himself from any actions he might take to advance that platform if elected?

Comment by Ron Burgundy Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 1:57 pm

  5. Even you Drury haters gotta admit that having him as A.G. would be fun. Plus it’s an office where “I’m a former federal prosecutor” is a great qualification. It’s a good thing JB has money because the Speaker might spend more to keep Drury out of that office than he would to get rid of Rauner.

  6. Getting to talk about being a former prosecutor and having it actually be relevant? Drury found his little slice of heaven.

Comment by PJ Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 1:58 pm

  7. actually this is the race in which he belongs. glad he is gone from the gov race.

  8. What will Drury do with all of his “Drury for Governor” signs?

  9. –What will Drury do with all of his “Drury for Governor” signs?–

Buy a bunch of “A” stickers and rectangular ones to cover up the “overnor.”

  10. There will be a wealth of talent running for AG. It could be the most significant decision for primary voters next spring.

    Comment by anon2 Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 2:16 pm

  11. Alex Hirsch has a better chance of being elected Lt. Governor than Scott Drury has of being the Democratic nominee for AG.

But if Drury decides to run against Erica Harold, I think he’s got a decent chance at the GOP nomination.

    Comment by 47th Ward Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 2:24 pm

  12. 47th Ward: Remember in the 80s when so many Dem primary voters based their choice on how ethnic sounding the names were on the ballot and ended up electing a couple of LaRouchies? Throw in a heap of dark money spent on Drury’s behalf and who knows.

Comment by lake county democrat Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 2:38 pm

  13. Actually, A Guy, having a former federal prosecutor as AG is one heck of a lot better than having the daughter of the chair of the Cook County Democrats’ judicial selection committee. Even if the former federal prosecutor is Drury.

Comment by Keyrock Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 2:41 pm

  14. Is he going to bring Hirsch along as his Lieutenant Attorney General on the ticket? /s

Comment by Gruntled University Employee Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 2:43 pm

  15. It would be a great check/balance between the Gov an the legislature. Love the idea of him running for AG.

Comment by Mod Dem Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 2:48 pm

  16. Being a former federal prosecutor does not in any way prepare one to be AG. An AG is more than anything an administrator. Trust me, Lisa Madigan did not try a lot of cases in the past 16 years.

Comment by TominChicago Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 2:51 pm

  17. An A.G. is far more than an administrator. Eliot Spitzer became a de facto federal financial regulator in New York. State A.G.’s often sue companies doing business nationwide. A.G.’s can seek advisory opinions from the state supreme court and have the resources to advance issues individuals don’t. It can be a tremendously powerful office as a vehicle for civil and criminal suits.

  18. ===It can be a tremendously powerful office as a vehicle for civil and criminal suits.===

LCD, can you name the most significant criminal prosecution ever successfully brought by an Illinois Attorney General?

What is the over/under of individuals sent to prison based on a conviction brought by the Illinois Attorney General?

Were they all polluters, or con men, or were other crimes involved.

I’ll hang up and listen to your answer.

    Comment by 47th Ward Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 3:22 pm

  19. Dems, a Drury nomination would be the most certain way to make me vote for Harold.

Comment by Norseman Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 3:41 pm

  20. Scott Drury I I I just want to move up

Comment by Anonymous Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 3:42 pm

  21. So does Bob Daiber become the Knight in Shining Armor and make Alex Hirsch his running mate?

Comment by Grand Avenue Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 3:59 pm

  22. Drury has $350k in his committee and comes from a great area for fundraising. He’s definitely making the right move to go for AG instead of Governor.

Comment by Grand Avenue Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 4:03 pm

  23. Geez, is there any single office at all that Scott Drury won’t run for?

    Comment by Anon57 Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 4:06 pm

  24. 47th - Thanks for your call. But why are you qualifying with “Illinois”? I said “can be,” not “has been.” You know, kinda like what Lisa “hands on” Madigan promised once and what other A.G.’s have been for their states.

Comment by lake county democrat Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 4:43 pm

  25. For the eight millionth time, the Illinois Attorney General is not a prosecutor. They don’t have subpoena power. If they want to do anything in the criminal arena, they have to partner with a local state’s attorney. AGs have sought additional power going back decades including Lisa but have continually been refused by the ILGA. NY AG is a totally different office.

Comment by Chicago Cynic Monday, Sep 18, 17 @ 6:44 pm

  26. ===For the eight millionth time, the Illinois Attorney General is not a prosecutor.===

Yeah, it’s up there with “won 99 counties” as the biggest misunderstood thing in Illinois politics and government.

You can be a “law and order AG” if that fits into the legal consumer angle and representing the state when she’s sued.

Drury would be perfect trying to sell this prosecutor angle that doesn’t exist.
