* House Republican Leader Jim Durkin spoke to the City Club of Chicago today. The first question he was asked was why Dan Proft was using his radio show to whack Durkin so hard the past couple of weeks. Durkin’s response, delivered with an exaggerated puzzled look on his face…

I didn’t know that Dan Proft had a radio show.

Much laughter ensued.

* Durkin also claimed “natural attrition” is why many of his members have retired this year. The average age is about 70 of the retirees, he said. And he said other members are relatively new and found out the job just wasn’t for them. “The antagonism, the stress and the anxiety” all combined to convince them to get out.

*** UPDATE *** Response from Proft…

Durkin was in his element at the City Club–you know, with the Chicago Democrats whose bidding he does.

I’m sorry his memory is failing him as he has been on my show. Durkin is better when he’s actually clueless rather than pretending to be.

The circular firing squad abated because of Gov. Rauner’s money and his credible threat to use it against anyone who wasn’t playing ball. He either isn’t making those threats any longer or they’re no longer credible.

Proft fights fellow Republicans — that’s what he knows best and does best. He wins primaries, not General Elections. Unless the financial spigot is cut off, this will continue.

Proft wouldn’t know how to win a General Election if it hit him in the face. So, at the moment, all he’s doing is helping nominate unelectable crazies. Some forward-thinking Republicans need to stop this nonsense.

No room in Uiehleinland for a Republican like Durkin? If that crew gets its way they can hold their caucuses in a broom closet.

Quite a lot of public factional fighting going on in the GOP. Does it have something to do with that $30M for state jobs deal that Hinz reported on, and the continuing fiasco of the BTIA(TM) move?

Great piece on Fresh Air this morning on WBEZ with authors of book about what happened to our politics, and particularly the Republican party. Much of it applies here, and to “tribalists” like Proft.

Proft needs to get his panties out of a wad….it was a joke. Geeze.
All of Rauner and Uihlein’s money has gone straight to Proft’s ego. He has gone from being snarky and somewhat entertaining to being just plain mean and petty. Sad to watch. . . and listen to.

One things that people have not focused on is that Durkin’s fundraising numbers are dreadful. Actually rather pathetic, he can continue to pick fights with Proft all he wants; however, he has no ability to defend his members in any of these potential Proft primaries without the Governor’s assistance. My point: stop the infighting and focus on the dems.

@Ducky and @ughh - I didn’t mean to imply that I would actually listen to Rush for those 3 hours. KMOX is my morning station and I usually switch to MPR or turn on Spotify at 11.

Yet, for some reason, I do get periodic emails from 670thescore. So I have an idea what you are referring to. Wish I knew how they got my email.

Proft wins primaries? Well, I guess he’s won a few but his batting average is below the Mendoza line. On the whole, he and his gang of “revolutionaries” have lost more than they’ve won. Dick Uihlein seems to like Proft though … remember their mutual hatred of gay marriage?

Illini, I don’t know how far south you are but you can pick up 670 AM on actual radio (if you can’t listen on your computer) down to Carbondale most days. I’ve gotten clear reception all the way down to Paducah on clear days. Don’t listen to ughh, if you’re a fan of Chicago teams it’s a good station.

And also Dan Proft is a terrible human being.

If I have to choose, it’s not even close.

It’s Durkin.

If the Governor has to choose, that’s where the confusing part begins.

Proft has never been about building the GOP, Proft is about finding conflict where it can exist to benefit financially from that conflict.

That, and the pettiness and anger and frustration that a Proft loves to feed his own grudges.

Proft loves and lives for slights, grudges, pettiness and divisiveness.

It’s his brand, and gets the most financially out of those “small” things

Proft represents a minority of a minority.
He attacks the minority, to impose purity, leading to an even smaller minority. Its like political musical chairs.

If you want insightful Chicago sports go to ESPN 1000 - They have an A-List cast from Kap to Waddle. 670 has subpar analysis - cant listen to it for more than 5 minutes. Jim Miller has a Sirius show, and it is great for your general NFL fan who also likes the Bears.
