Over the past two days, President Donald Trump announced he would end ACA subsidies for people buying insurance on the individual healthcare marketplace and issued an executive order expected to further destabilize the market. Rates are expected to rise 20% or more.
For months, Governor Bruce Rauner sat quietly on the sideline as President Trump worked to end the Affordable Care Act, despite the consequences in store for Illinois families. Recently, Rauner even deflected blame for President Trump by trying to tie recent instability in the marketplace back to President Obama. When asked what he’s doing to protect Illinoisans, Rauner claims, without evidence, that he’s talking to leaders in Washington.
Well, now Governor Rauner has an old friend to call. Earlier this week his old health care advisor, Eric Hargan, was named acting Secretary of President Trump’s HHS. Hargan served as the “Co-Chair and Convener of the Healthcare and Human Services Transition Committee for Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner.” Will Rauner call acting HHS Secretary Hargan and prevail on him to protect the 350,000 Illinoisans in the marketplace? Or will he continue to stand by as Illinois families see their rates rise?
“Premiums are set to skyrocket for Illinois families and Governor Rauner has not lifted a finger to stop it,” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “For months, Rauner sat idly by as Trump worked to strip needed health protections and destroy the state budget. Now Trump’s reckless actions will hit voters in their pocketbook and Bruce Rauner’s silence is only making things worse for families. It’s time for Bruce Rauner to stop shielding President Trump and start standing up for Illinois.”

As Donald Trump sabotages the Affordable Care Act by halting subsidies, the JB Pritzker campaign released a new digital ad, “Fight Back.”
The ad highlights the intentional destruction of our healthcare system by Donald Trump and Republicans in Washington and the urgent need for a leader in Illinois to fight back. Bruce Rauner has remained silent as Donald Trump systematically dismantles our healthcare system and puts millions of Illinoisans’ coverage at risk.
“Donald Trump is intentionally destroying our healthcare system, but Bruce Rauner doesn’t seem to care that millions of Illinoisans’ healthcare could be jeopardized,” said JB Pritzker. “Trump is an immoral leader, and Rauner is his clear partner in Illinois. We need a governor who will protect Illinoisans from Trump’s attacks and work to protect healthcare in our state.”

My own opinion of that ad is the editing may inadvertently pair Pritzker with Trump if you’re not paying close attention, and most people aren’t. I took my eyes away from it for a second and was a little surprised at what visuals were hitting my brain.

Whether for or against the ACA, the implementation of the cadillac tax is a MUST if it is even close to being viable. What is the stance of each candidate on this tax?

Those cheering on the demise of the ACA should be careful for what they wish. The ACA was Obama’s attempt to meet Republicans half-way. The next chance the Democrats get, it’ll be Medicare for everyone. See Biss’ statement.
Universal health insurance is standard in every western Democracy on the planet. It will be standard here too. The ACA sought to do it via mandates and subsidized insurance. which was the Heritage Foundation’s idea. Expanding Medicare is another option.
Allowing sick people to die in the street is not an option. No one will tolerate that in America. Once you agree to that, then all that’s left is how to pay for universal health care.

Not the best edit, where it cuts to “Trump” on the building then straight to Pritzker. It’s confusing to the separation.
They have something similarly off in another ad that cuts to “DC” Types, then Trump then instead of cutting directly TO Rauner, they allow a break between images.
One you have Pritzker “seemingly” close to Trump and the other with a lacked image link from DC/Trump and Rauner.
When your dealing in seconds, the image train does matter to keep the confusion at bay.

BEFORE you all jump on the outrage bandwagon know this:
Congress never appropriated the money that the treasury was paying out on the subsidies.
Illegal right?
So the Republicans did indeed sue Obamax.
So Trump ends the illegal practice.
If Congress wishes there to be subsidies paid, they have to write the approps and pass them.

Lol. But they collected the taxes that were passed by ACA. That’s a pathetic joke of an argument TW.
Process questions aside: do you believe it’s OK for people to die because they can’t see a doctor? If you answer no, how should that healthcare be paid for?
Just because the Republican-controlled Congress chose not to fund the subsidies out of political spite doesn’t change the underlying question: who is entitled to healthcare and how should we pay for it?

Obamacare is a dumpster fire that those without resources use to stay warm. Using them as human shields to prevent it from being replaced is immoral.

My spouse is from a country with universal healthcare. VAT is 15%. Plus they have income taxes and a variety of other taxes. You decide what is important and then you actually PAY for it. Healthcare is important. It should be to all of us.

I too thought the visuals were sending other messages.
What stood out to me was the image of JB in front of the sign, “Repeal and Replace Trump,” follow a couple of seconds later with a sign, “And Juliana Stratton.”
I thought the message was “Repeal and Replace Trump…and Juliana Stratton”

The Affordable Care Act is broken it’s time to work with Trump to fix this. Trump is stopping insurance company bailouts and increasing competition which will decrease prices how could you even develop a system that does not have competition across state lines

Before ObamaCare the uninsured went to the emergency room. They somehow received treatment. But the premiums paid by those who were then insured were considerably less then than now, in the wake of the “Affordable Care Act.” Should we now ask for more of the same?

Daniel Biss is upset. However, President Trump has that pesky U.S. Constitution on his side on this one. Only Congress can appropriate money for bailouts. Who knew Daniel Biss wants to subsidize that giant salary of the CEO of Blue Cross of Illinois ? If your healthcare scheme relies on government bailouts and controlling the executive branch : you are in trouble when you don’t control the White House for you rookies out there.

Trump is sabotaging so many people, so many of the “least of those among us.” Is that the Christianity that Republicans want this country to follow?
I’ve read comments of people saying they don’t want to pay anything for the Social Security and health insurance of others. That is the very antithesis of Christian values that many want to force upon others.
For the Grandson of Man will be working the door at the Great Feast of the Kingdom. Those who support taking health insurance away from poor, sick people but use religion to batter people as it suits them will knock to get in. The Grandson will say, “Go away, we don’t know you.”
“But we’re devout Christians,” they’ll say. We tried to put faith in the classrooms and in government.”
“Go away, we don’t know you,” the Grandson of Man will repeat. “You used religion to overcome your opponents, but when we were sick and poor, you ripped away our healthcare. What’s more, you supported making billionaires even richer.”
Then there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

That’s kind of the point, what. We don’t let people die in the street. Everyone else pays for it. That’s kind of (blanked) up, don’t you think? Why do think a hospital aspirin costs you $40?
Is that the best we can do? Give some free care and let some others pay for it?

Florida alone was reported to have something like 850,000 people without health insurance. Folks suffered, having to put off getting treated for illnesses, and having to reduce their medications to make them stretch. Who knows how many died? It’s cruel and wrong for a supposed world leader.

Why don’t any of the candidates talk about tort reform and also negotiating drug prices with drug companies. These are major cost drivers I don’t hear any of the candidates discuss this oh wait most of them are attorneys

Trump has no plan or desire to fix anything. His singular motivation is to undo anything and everything that Obama implemented regardless of the consequences. That is in fact what his “base” demands.
