FARMBOT!

Posted in:

Now this is an idea I can support 100 percent…

“I can’t think of anybody who wouldn’t get excited about seeing him flying around, launching corn into the audience.”

“Eventually, I think we need to move towards a fully automated robot mascot.”

“Robots are pretty non controversial. And nondemoninational.”

“We haven’t repressed robots.”

“Everybody loves FarmBot and everybody’s hugging him. I think FarmBot’s as soft as metal can get.”

And I totally dig that Lincolnesque stovepipe hat “which shoots fireworks.” Not sure if the jetpack will work, but it’s a nice idea.

  1. I appreciate it because it doesn’t offend most robots.

  2. Just don’t steal the Salukis since UofI always steals our coaches I am sure they have their eyes on the Dawgs.

  3. U of I wishes it could have Billy Panther.
I do like the corn shooter. Maybe the robot could help the football team.

  5. The Daily Show’s Illiniwek story was on last night. You can probably catch it again at 7pm tonight, or at the comedy central website. It was pretty good.

  6. This is a truly great idea.

And he would be able to do the traditional dance of all robots on the 50 yard line… the robot!

  11. I think my toaster and microwave are feeling slighted by the choice of a farmbot. Besides what better represents the State of Illinois than a mascot of a “prison guard”. After all many of our fine politicians find themselves headed towards residence in those time honored institutions. And many of those not headed for the retirement residence of our state prisons belong there anyway.

  12. Farmbot looks too much like Bender from Futurama. Anyway, we already have real farmbots, or you’ve never seen what a GPS-augmented self-navigating cultivator/planter setup can do these days.

How many years do you think it will be before they dare to introduce a new mascot? I still say, those people that love the Chief, they should dom makeup and dress like him and sit in the audience, I don’t think anybody can stop you unless you forget something under the breechclout.

Saw the Daily Show bit last night; they actually pulled their punches quite a bit I thought. It could have ben much worse.

They could have had not-at-all-curious Blago on for another soundbite about the Chief.

And the problem with that is…?

  15. Soy Vey!!!! I’m not a cornist, in fact, some of my best friends are pretty cool cobs. But I find all this talk about non-discrimination and such difficult to digest. Soybeans are a large minority in the Illinois agricultural pantheon. I find it offensive that yet another cheap ploy is out there so the ruling structure can continue to supress equal representation. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss … cornlauncher, fireworks, jetpacks and all!!! At the very least, Farm Bot could add an attachment to shoot soybeans from its prodigious cannon.

    That is all,
    Soy Bot
