Today, Congressman Mike Quigley endorsed JB Pritzker for governor at an event in Chicago. This marks JB’s third congressional endorsement after Congressman Luis Gutierrez and Congresswoman Cheri Bustos endorsed the campaign.
“Mike Quigley is one of our state and nation’s most respected congressman,” said JB Pritzker. “At every turn, he stands up for civil rights, immigrant rights, women’s rights and LGBTQ rights as President Trump tries to take them away. But while Mike Quigley is in Washington taking on Donald Trump and making his voice heard, we have a governor in Illinois who remains silent as Trump attacks our people. With Mike by my side, I’m confident that we can take down Donald Trump’s partner in Illinois, and get our state back on track.”
“JB Pritzker has the values we need in the governor’s office, the experience to turn this state around, and the track record to prove to me that he will do it,” said Congressman Mike Quigley. “When one branch of our government fails, others need to step up and protect us, promote our economic interests, and preserve the gains we have made as a society. But Bruce Rauner has been an absolute failure when it comes to this momentous responsibility. Democrats in Illinois have a special responsibility to the people of Illinois to put forward a candidate who will not only defeat Rauner, but restore Illinois. That person is JB Pritzker.”

This just made me think about my FIL, who went to Quigley for a spell (just a spell, obviously). And while he likes Pritzker, well, tubby northside hockey fans ought to have a natural affinity for Pritzker.

Anyway, decent get for Pritzker. Quigley’s well liked by northside liberal activists, a group with which Pritzker’s been a little weak.

And….many more men attended Quigley to become biological fathers (and father in laws) rather than Reverend Fathers. Tons of those guys in Catholic Charities. The Seminary was an excellent educational opportunity.

It isn’t quite a Jan Schakowsky endorsement, but this is a good ‘get.’
Quigley is one of the top Democratic vote getters in Illinois, in the primary and the general.
Remember the “big deal” Brad Schneider endorsement/unendirsement?
Schneider received 11K primary votes in 2014 to Quigley’s 26K.

Representative Quigley believes the legislature has not failed Illinois for the past few decades. Only the past three years of Governor Rauner are the problem. Lots of luck defending that line when you visit your gerrymandered constituents in Hinsdale, Elmhurst and Oak Brook.
What happened to the reformer who challenged the status quo and fought against tax increase in the Cook County Board?

Daniel Biss is still in the race and he and Jan share the same voter base in Evanston. Unless Biss drops out, Jan is in a difficult spot concerning a gubernatorial endorsement.

Bruce Rauner is the incumbent Governor, Captain 2014.

As always, Jan will do what’s in her own best interest. Biss could have used her help but that time has passed.

I don’t think Jan is standing on the side lines because she worries about hurting Biss’s feelings.
Jan is probably aware that Biss has been coveting her job for awhile now. That annoys her to end. Plus, his voting record isn’t nearly as progressive as hers.
On the other hand, she and JB ran against each other in 1998 when that seat for Congress opened up. I get the sense that Jan maybe ready to let bygones be, but on the other hand 20 years is a relatively short grudge in Illinois politics.

Sling, I don’t understand your question. I’m not peddling Rauner and Trump on the streets.
Seminarians are no different than any other high school graduates; they don’t like it when someone doesn’t keep their word.
As a rule, I really don’t discuss fundraising efforts at CC, other than it’s a constant need and process. Lately a lot of emphasis has gone to hurricane victims; I can tell you I’m very proud of the amount and type of help that CC was able to provide. Quickly.
Many Seminarians are involved in Catholic Charities as an answer to a call to service. They’re doing good work.

Yeah, I’m sure it’s difficult to remember stuff you claimed but didn’t really happen. But, as a rule, what do you think about signing contracts and then vetoing the appropriations to pay them?
