This is tough. I voted IPI because it’s clever and makes you think a bit. Proft cuts right to the chase and hits you over the head with a hammer as he’s wont to do.

Both ads say the same thing, but the IPI ad has a touch of creativity to it.

Egads, I can’t believe I’m voting for an IPI inspired activity. As Word said, it’s more creative. You also get the message much quicker.

You don’t need the words to understand IPI’s point. Proft’s photo could be used by Rauner in one of his ads. If I am skimming social media andd see Proft’s, I would just assume it is a pro-Rauner ad. IPI’s is much more effective.

It’s IPI.
The simplicity of the art and the embarrassment factor is higher with the tricycle.
It also mocks Rauner’s costumes too, subtly, but pointedly.

The cartoon is very good. I found myself looking for training wheels on both vehicles. They wouldn’t have helped the Governor over the last few years. He seems to lose his balance no matter what he is doing.

Didn’t vote because it’s a tie… both ads reveal that the IPI and Proft played along with Rauner’s act the first time around - they knew he was a phony from the get go.

IPI’s ad is instantly recognizable and impactful as a “burn” so I put it ahead of the other.
BTW, IPI has created a closed Facebook Group linked to its main, open group that is called “Illinois Policy Activists.”

The IPI cartoon, if for no other reason than it is sort of ironic given the amount of trouble IPI cartoons have caused the Gov of late.

I am in the clear minority. To me, it’s the picture of Rauner (not what Proft says) that is so ridiculous. That isn’t a cartoon that someone else drew to make fun of him. That is actually him (exclamation point). He actually dressed himself up like that. And he wants people to view him that way.
That, to me, speaks much louder than a cheeky cartoon from the IPI. That image of Bruce is so much more original.
Truth is stranger than fiction . . .

Since “Dad’s Home State” revolved around “Bruce” and “Diana” and how their fiction is mocked as truth.

IPI’s cartoon actually makes you look at it and realize their point. Cartoons are fun to look at. Proft’s ad just makes him sound like a jilted lover.

This is why I was conflicted. The cartoon is clever, but at the same time the real Bruce looks so “cartoonish” he needs no embellishment. I could see this picture appearing on late night TV with a host saying, “and here’s a picture of Illinois’ governor” and it would get laughs.

Funny, creative, memorable while being both subtle and minimalist. No need to explain it.
It’s just about as perfect an example of a political cartoon as you can get.
