Senger for comptroller, Dodge for treasurer

Posted in:

* John Diersen

Darlene Senger and Jim Dodge are circulating joint nominating petitions, Senger for Comptroller and Dodge for Treasurer. Jason Helland is circulating nominating petitions for Secretary of State

A couple of sources have confirmed this. The Senger/Dodge petitions are here. I’m pretty sure we’ve already talked about Grundy County State’s Attorney Helland, but his petitions are here.

Senger is a former state Representative who worked for the Illinois Policy Institute before becoming Rauner’s chief legislative liaison during the Great Summer Purge of 2017.

Dodge ran for comptroller in 2010 and came in third place behind Judy Baar Topinka and William Kelly. Yes, you read that right.

  1. Senger’s halfway serious, at least.

  2. Staving off a William J Kelly “saddling”.

This should make Mendoza and Frerichs sleep “easier”, but toms of work to do to ensure they win, and Rauner is defeated too.

Raunerites are literally giving up the statewides to ensure Rauner wins and has a hand in the Map process.

That’s all this is. Nothing more.

Oh, and not being “saddled” with a Scott Lee Cohen, a William J Kelly or LaRouchie types.

    This is embarrassing

  4. The scuttlebutt is Senger didn’t even want to run. Quoth Governor Rauner, “Whatever.”

  5. Senger was unimpressive as my State Representative, failed badly against Foster fo Congress.

This is a sad commentary on the Republican party in Illinois.

  6. No guarantee he makes the ballot but Kelly has announced a running mate (well two actually, the first one had some issues) and is supposedly running for Governor in the Republican primary.

  7. I guess this is the time to bring up the heavyweights. I can’t wait to see how this works out for ILGOP.

  8. I wish Bob Grogan would run for Comptroller. I thought he ran a good campaign against Tom Cross in the 2014 primary.

Comment by Curl of the Burl Monday, Nov 6, 17 @ 12:39 pm

  9. Somebody who gets on the ballot is going to win those primaries. I thought Rauner would have had his own lineup out by now.

  10. ==Raunerites are literally giving up the statewides to ensure Rauner wins and has a hand in the Map process.==

I think that’s a mistake. I get the idea of consolidating all your resources, but I think it’s better to have a complete ticket. It gives voters multiple “Ins” to voting Republican.

  11. **I thought Rauner would have had his own lineup out by now.**

I assume the Senger/Dodge candidacies ARE Rauner’s linup.

  12. –I assume the Senger/Dodge candidacies ARE Rauner’s linup.–

Not exactly shouting it from the rooftops, if that’s the case.

  13. ===I thought Rauner would have had his own lineup out by now.===

I think Saul is right. This IS Rauner’s lineup.

The 1927 New York Yankees it is not.

say what you want about the guy but he was spot on about Rauner before Republicans were all #metoo

  15. Whatever happened to Adam Whatshisname? It’s an open race for the GOP nomination for Comptroller. Doesn’t he still want to subject us all to forensic audits? This would seem to be the time to get into the race and drop some of his rumored personal wealth behind his goofy ideas.

  16. I’m sure Darlene will get the state’s finances in GOOD shape.

  17. I would not be surprised if Jeanne Ives came in third behind William Kelly in the Governor’s race.

Comment by Fax Machine Monday, Nov 6, 17 @ 1:10 pm

  18. These names don’t help Rauner, but they don’t hurt either and my guess is that’s the objective. These races won’t be a distraction.

Comment by Pundent Monday, Nov 6, 17 @ 1:17 pm

  19. @47th Ward-Adam A has determined it’s best to be a criticizer and not a fixer since his ideas fix nothing. Probably will call a press conference to announce he’s not running for anything again.

  22. “Raunerites are literally giving up the statewides to ensure Rauner wins and has a hand in the Map process. That’s all this is. Nothing more.”

The flip-side of this is the reason that I believe every effort put into the defeat of Peter Roskam is worse than wasted.

No matter how mad Dems are, Roskam will win. And that will suck. But Dems allowing Rauner to control the Map by squandering their limited resources would be far, far worse.

  23. Same candidates over and over again. Where is the new blood? Harold was a good start. I thought we were going to see an entire slate of fresh, new candidates. ILGOP decided to go all-in on Harold and axe any support for the other statewide offices. ILGOP needs to be totally transformed.

Comment by GOPAboutFace Monday, Nov 6, 17 @ 1:54 pm

  24. @GOPAboutFace

Couldn’t agree more. They will both lose easily to Mendoza and Frerichs. Very sad.

  25. Darlene Senger was most likely pressured to run. I might as well run Leslie Munger again

Comment by Honeybadger Monday, Nov 6, 17 @ 2:02 pm

  26. If Rauner wins re-election, then Susana Mendoza would become the prohibitive favorite for the 2022 Dem nomination for Gov.

Comment by Fax Machine Monday, Nov 6, 17 @ 2:09 pm

  27. I just want to clarify that this is a different Jim Dodge, and not the Executive Director of the Legislative Reference Bureau. LRB Jim is a great guy who would never finish behind William Kelly in any contest!

Comment by charles in charge Monday, Nov 6, 17 @ 2:18 pm

  28. Regarding the Senger/Dodge petition, shouldn’t Comptroller be listed first? It is listed before Treasurer constitutionally.
