Rauner’s favorite Springfield restaurant owner dodges “The Rauner Question”

Posted in:

* Mike Murphy formally announced his House candidacy yesterday

Murphy is the Sangamon County GOP’s choice to replace state Rep. Sara Wojcicki Jimenez, R-Leland Grove, who is not seeking another term. Precinct Committeeman Steven Westerfield also is running for the nomination in the March primary. Two Democrats – Jenica Myers-Hopkins of Pleasant Plains and Marc Bell of Chatham are seeking their party’s nomination.

Murphy, 64, said he has no “personal political agenda” to seek higher office. He said that gives him independence to tell the governor or his caucus leader when he disagrees with them.

“And lastly, I will be willing to go on the floor of the Illinois House and stand up and shout and say, ‘Speaker, what you’re doing is bad for Illinois,’” he added. “I can’t wait to do that.” […]

He said he isn’t backing anyone yet in the primary for governor – where state Rep. Jeanne Ives of Naperville recently announced her candidacy.

“I have my hands full,” he said, with his own race for the House.

Murphy used to own Charlie Parker’s restaurant, and the governor raved about the place for years.

    A complete and utter phony.

Will he be getting Rauner/Raunerite monies?

    That’s my question.

If the answer is “yes”, then this embarrassingly ridiculous dodge…

===“I have my hands full,” he (Murphy) said, with his own race for the House.===

… is a Raunerite candidate looking to fool “just enough” people… until the Raunerite money starts funding the campaign.

    Murphy doesn’t know?

    Give me a break.

  2. Probably the smartest way to deal with it.

Jeanne Ives has no chance at all, but embracing Rauner in the primary could still hurt leg candidates in their own primary.

So just dodge the question and then endorse Rauner in the general.

Well, he’s gonna have a lock on the Old White Dudes Who Wear Jorts To Alexanders And Innefectually Scream At the Speaker votes…

  5. ===You assume a lot, or do you have first hand knowledge…===

    My question is this…

    ===Will he be getting Rauner/Raunerite monies?===

    So… here’s the rub.

If the answer is yes, then it’s just a phony dodge.

If the answer is no, then the quotes about being “independent”… how can someone be so “independent” that they can’t make a choice for governor, but already knows they want to take on Madigan?

    Murphy knows.

Murphy knows if he’s going to get Raunerite monies too.

Once the financing of how this race will go is clear, then it’s a question of what this dodge is all about, and why can’t Murphy stand with or stand against Rauner?

  6. Murphy’s baloney is as big as his Charlie Parker’s pancake.

He’ll be a guaranteed vote for Rauner.

  8. ==“I have my hands full,” he said, with his own race for the House.==

That backing his party’s incumbent Governor is perceived as such a burden is telling.

  9. Went to Charlie Parker’s once…..nice atmosphere, usually busy, but due to the extra large pancakes (and everything else), you need to have the reach of an orangutan to reach the immovable table from the bench seats. Built to accommodate a clientele of ‘Hearty eaters’. Ha

  10. So in other words Mike, your going to be a pawn for Rainer. Just like Jimenez.

  11. In fairness to Jimenez, she was a pawn for Rauner … until she wasn’t.

    “What’s wrong with jorts? ”

Not much at all to me (aside from comfort/swampiness), it’s just when you’re wearing them, ‘your grievances’ probably aren’t the first thing that needs ‘airing out’.

  14. Only one man can wear jorts and his name is John Cena.

  15. Can you take his money, and vote against him? It won’t be enough to rinse the money through the Republican Party or leader Durkins campaign account, give it to him and pretend its pure. You got to dance with the girl what bronchia (brung ya).

Cena in Long jorts yes, but mine have a nice Daisy Duke cut.

  17. Well Mike, let us know when you decide if you can stand on the House floor and state you want to cut the size of state government and do more with less and undue the tax increase because as a former Springfield business owner, nothing says GOP like reducing the number of people working in your district.

  18. One reason I like Capitol Fax is because I always learn something new. Yesterday I learned the IPI is concerned about the teacher shortage they helped create (or were they bragging?). Today I learned jorts is a word and, thanks to Google Images, what they look like. (Could have gone all day without that new-found knowledge.)

  19. I look forward to Mr. Murphy being overwhelmingly elected by Springfield area baby-boomers, followed by four years of Mr. Murphy explaining his votes against the best interests of the city with “yeah, but we need to make America great again like it was in the 60’s. Free posters of Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Elvis sitting together in a coffee shop for everyone!” Thanks in advance, worst generation.

  24. 1. Being the owner of a popular restaurant is at the bottom of my “must haves” list for a vote.
    2. Charlie Parker’s is better in every fundamental way since Murphy’s departure, and that does say something.
