  1. Who knew he was a prosecutor?

Comment by Dome Gnome Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 9:15 am

  2. Well, it’s probably 30 seconds or so too long. It gets laborious. Nonetheless, it’s a good introduction spot.

Content-wise, there are a few things that would not necessarily come under the purview of the AG, like stopping legislation…the AG cannot order the General Assembly to NOT consider bills before it.

  3. I’ll never vote for the guy, but it is a pretty good video, though a tad on the long side. Hits corruption, guns, Madigan . . . will resonate with a lot of people.

Comment by Lakeview lawyer Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 9:20 am

  4. Well, dad didn’t say anything about giving crap, so being a politician works just fine.

Comment by Anonymous Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 9:21 am

  5. The video is a “B-, C+”.

Seems to try to be smart, but like Drury, if you have to go to substance, there’s maybe enough there for 65 seconds, not 90+ seconds.

Also, Drury seems grossly uninformed on what the office actually does. As a former federal prosecutor and arguably the most disliked person under the dome, few might feel the need to help him.

    Drury thinks there’s a plus.

Drury hasn’t run statewide as a loner.

  6. Very good introduction to the candidate. Includes issues that voters care about….working people, guns, corruption. Humanizes him. trouble is, in this race with so many candidates, the key is to get the biggest slice of the pie. Raoul gets that right now. Folks will have to find a way to go negative on him in ways that don’t increase his slice.

Comment by Amalia Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 9:27 am

  7. Interesting that a guy who is arguably the most picked on and bullied member of the General Assembly opens his introduction spot reminiscing about his dad teaching him to stand up to bullies.

    Comment by Postbot 4928 Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 9:29 am

  8. I actually think it’s pretty good, though I’d be interested in which “anti corruption” bill was featured in that Daily Herald piece. His dad is well known as one of the better class action attorneys around, for some context.

Comment by Conn Smythe Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 9:34 am

  9. When my kids headed out to school I’d tell them “Have a good day.” That seems to have worked out, none of them became politicians.

Comment by West Side the Best Side Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 9:38 am

  10. West Side. Oh, dats good.

Comment by Anonymous Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 9:45 am

  11. Way too long. He has no charisma. The content is fine, but his voice, his appearance, his image is very grating. He will not have enough money to buy a significant ad placement. Accordingly, it does not matter. He will get less than 2 percent.

Comment by heroin Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 9:49 am

  12. Not bad a solid B; the “don’t take any crap” line is a thinly veiled attack on MJM and for that he has my respect.

Comment by Texas Red Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 9:51 am

  13. This ad, with his one article about prosecuting one low level public employee and his other meager, claimed accomplishments, strengthen my opinion that Drury is a political dilettante with an over-inflated sense of self. After this primary, he can claim his status as a former legislator, former candidate for governor and AG as well as former federal prosecutor. Hopefully, he can also soon be a former resident of Illinois. Goodbye, good riddance to a true Rauner democrat.

Comment by Trapped in the 'burbs Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 9:52 am

  14. I’d actually say this video is decent, a B+. Gets to why Drury is running and what he would focus on if elected AG.

Comment by Lunchbox Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 9:53 am

  15. This ad is digital only. That is fundamentally a different animal than a TV spot. Way too many folks are grading these digital spots incorrectly because they don’t understand the difference.

A successful digital spot must be concise and grab people quickly - within a few seconds, otherwise you won’t engage people scrolling past on their phones - and it must work without sound, since 85 percent of digital video ads are viewed without sound.

This Drury spot - like the Biss spot posted a couple weeks ago, like way too much of what political campaigns are putting online - doesn’t do those things that a digital spot must fundamentally do.

    It’s an F.

  16. “when a person looks at the attorney general, they should say “hey, that guy was a federal prosecutor”"

Comment by MissingG Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 9:58 am

  17. Imagine a Democrat running to change the perception of the state and clean up Illinois once and for all. Only the tone deaf insiders see this as a loser.

He clearly is somebody nobody sent which is why he mocked constantly by the insiders who benefit from the status quo.

Comment by Lucky Pierre Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 10:04 am

Then this upcoming March, when you pull that Dem Primary ballot, you will have the opportunity to vote for Drury.

    Good for you.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 10:08 am

  19. Ad is too long, Way too long. But over all a good intro to a candidate running for an important state job-a name that few voters already know about. Promising he’ll take it to the “Old Boy’s Club” is always a good election starting message for most of this state’s residents top to bottom.

    grade B

Comment by Responsa Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 10:09 am

  20. C+.

I don’t think he mentioned that he was a former federal prosecutor enough.

Comment by VoteQuimby Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 10:14 am

  21. Can he tell us what he has changed during his time in Springfield?

Comment by Olivia Pope Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 10:26 am

  22. Some film editor got really excited we they were able to throw in that quick take of him rolling up his sleeve.

Comment by Montrose Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 10:29 am

  23. I think it contains a lot of good messaging. If one has no prior knowledge of the guy it could be persuasive.

My question is why is he running in the Democratic primary? He has no shot. Wouldn’t he have a better shot running as a republican? Couldn’t he have moved earlier and been 1st in line for Raunerbucks?

Comment by Henry Francis Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 10:29 am

  24. Is Scott’s dad Billy Joel? /s

Comment by Laborious Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 10:33 am

  25. Can you explain what anyone other than Mike Madigan has changed during their time in Springfield?

Or better put, what has significantly changed in Springfield over the objection of Mike Madigan?

Comment by Lucky Pierre Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 10:37 am

  26. Isn’t this the guy who got elected using the help and money from the old boys network?

Comment by Confused Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 10:59 am

  27. I think Scott misunderstood his dad. What he really said every morning was, “Scott, go give everyone a lot of crap today”.

Yet somehow he’s done what his dad asked. It’s a basic ad, not too exciting, boring at some point. But it’s him describing him. So a pass, but not an exciting one.

    Comment by A guy Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 11:13 am

  28. Establishment candidates like kwame raoul are cancer to the Democratic Party. Don’t really mind much for Drury, but if he’s running on “cleaning up Illinois” I’ll vote for him.

Comment by IL DEM Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 11:44 am

  29. ===arguably the most disliked person under the dome===

Al franken said he likes ted cruz more than most of his colleagues….and he hates him.

Comment by Langhorne Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 11:51 am

  30. did anyone think that was an awkward hug btwn son and father? Looked forced? But maybe the Piano man doesn’t like to give hugs?

    Comment by 10th Ward Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 12:22 pm

  31. I find Scott Drury’s position on term limits contradictory. He believes that term limits are good for some but not for him. Seems very self serving to try and have your cake and eat it too.

Comment by double standard Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 12:25 pm

  32. It is low class to use the word “cancer” in a put down of Raoul. The man is being treated for prostate cancer. Show some respect.

    Comment by W Flag Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 12:53 pm

  33. So now everyone in Labor knows where he was last week when he should have been voting to override Rauner on “empowerment zones “ . I won’t vote for him, but maybe I’ll send him a clock

Comment by Redraider Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 2:25 pm

  34. W Flag, thank you for pointing out my insensitive comment. I had no idea. Regardless, I do feel that establishment Dems like him are not good for our party. He’s drenched in special interest and will not receive my vote. I hope his treatment is successful.

Comment by IL DEM Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 4:37 pm

  35. The ad is decent. Relative to how many insiders see him I think he looks good in this spot. I know he’s one of the favored punching bags around these parts but if someone doesn’t know who he his - this is a good intro. Problem is very few of those people will likely see this ad. His people did him a favor in keeping him to a script. Solid B.
