Mayor Nancy Rotering announced today that she earned the endorsement of Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (Rock Island - 17th District) in the race.
“Illinois needs a fighter like Nancy Rotering for our next Attorney General. Nancy is a working mom and skilled attorney who has the courage, principled leadership, and drive to make a difference for all of us in Illinois,” said Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. “Hardworking families are under attack from Washington Republicans and Bruce Rauner, and I trust Nancy to stand up to them and protect our rights. Nancy has a proven track record of fighting hard and getting real results which is why I’m going to work to help her win this race.”

As a two-term Mayor, Rotering shook up City Hall with a major reform of city government that resulted in transparency, accessibility, and ethics accountability. The founder of a legal aid clinic, she has ensured access to justice in the areas of immigration, domestic violence, and housing for hundreds of Illinois residents.

Is there any information anywhere on that forum? NEIU doesn’t seem to have anything on its site, the Bar Association is sparse on details.

But… back to Rotering’s endorsement from Bustos. That’s a good get.
I know that Kwame is the front runner and Quinn sucks up a lot of energy, but Rotering is the dark horse in this race. She can raise money, she has a story to tell, etc.

I have no idea how Kwame Raoul could be seen as a “front runner” for AG with the black community. During the passage of Rep. Brandon Phelps concealed carry bill in 2013, Raoul was chairman of the senate judiciary committee that heard Phelps bill, sponsored by Gary Forby in the senate. Phelps and Forby were two of the biggest good old boys in the legislature. Their NRA backed carry bill was loaded up with Duty to Inform, no CTA public transport carry, and everything else the police unions wanted.
In the house, Reps. LaShawn Ford, Will Davis, and Chris Welch opposed Duty to Inform on the record as to how it would impact the black community. In the senate, Raoul did nothing to oppose Duty to Inform, or make Phelps bill less dangerous. If you look at Raoul’s record instead of his puffed up rep., he is no friend of civil liberties or the black community.
