Dick Simpson endorses Biss

Posted in:

* Press release…

Today, Daniel Biss announced the endorsement of author, University of Illinois at Chicago professor, and former Chicago Alderman Dick Simpson. The two will host a Facebook Live discussion at 4:00 p.m. today to discuss topics related to good government, fighting corruption, and getting big money out of politics.

WHAT: Facebook LIVE Discussion on Good Government

WHO: Daniel Biss and Dick Simpson

WHEN: Today, Tuesday, December 12 - 4:00 p.m.

WHERE: Daniel Biss’ Facebook Page

I’m proud to endorse Daniel Biss,” said Dick Simpson. “Daniel is a proven progressive and a leader who doesn’t shy away from the tough fights. Whether he’s introducing a small donor matching program to get big money out of politics or a bill to require presidential candidates to release their tax returns to appear on the Illinois ballot, Daniel pursues innovative solutions that will transform our democracy at its core. With an impressive record of taking on the political machine and organizing around long-term reforms, Daniel is the candidate I trust to build a state that works for middle-class families like his.”

It’s an honor to receive Dick Simpson’s endorsement,” said Daniel Biss. “As an alderman, professor, and author, Dick has called attention to the insidious consequences of corruption and machine politics and the urgency of building a more transparent and accountable government. And he’s right—if we want to pass progressive revenue sources and fund our crucial priorities, it starts with setting up our government to listen to the rest of us, not just the wealthy and well-connected.”

* Meanwhile, Chris Kennedy endorsed a bagel…

@NYCBD has great bagels and even better owners. Thanks to Laurie and Corey for fueling our office today. #twill pic.twitter.com/aNmRt3f6A1

Wasn’t trying to be mean there. Just wanted to add a little levity.

  1. They are really good bagels, so Kennedy now has my vote.

    Comment by Montrose Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 2:20 pm

  2. You know the best bagels are New York bagels when the best bagel shop in the Chicago is named after NYC.

    Comment by Howsaboutit Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 2:31 pm

  3. Former Alderman Dick Simpson? He left the City Council when Biss was about two years old.

    Simpson to the former Alderman title as desperately as David Orr clings to “former mayor.”

  4. thats a good get for DB.

    Biss is winning the week. but don’t worry the JB playbook of attack Trump is surely going to be reignited once Moore wins his race. Because follow me on this one: Donald Trump is bad, Donald Trump endorsed an alleged child predator, Bruce Rauner loves Donald Trump, therefore Bruce Rauner also supports child predators. right? I’m thinking 90 second radio commercial as soon as the obamacare enrollment radio spot ends.

  5. Everyone knows that New York Bagel & Bialy (in Lincolnwood) has the best bagels anyway…

  6. Also not trying to be mean here. But in the digital age with all of the social media, someone with that smile is just never going to get elected. That is just a sad reality of the superficial nature of people nowadays.

    Comment by Smalls Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 2:45 pm

  7. Dick Simpson? What about Newton Minow?

    Comment by wordslinger Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 2:46 pm

  8. Faux good government academic blowhard endorses faux good government academic blowhard. This is news?

    Comment by Sharon Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 2:50 pm

  9. That one might be too soon Sling. But I did chuckle a bit.

    Kennedy’s sign is good.

    Bagels: Kauffman’s in Skokie.

    Happy Hanukkah to the Jewish Community.

  10. Biss/Simpson 2017: The charisma tour.

    And Anon E. Moose is right, “Everyone knows that New York Bagel & Bialy (in Lincolnwood) has the best bagels anyway…”

    Comment by Anon0091 Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 3:12 pm

  11. Don’t always agree with what he has to say but Dick Simpson knows Illinois politics backwards and forwards and he is one of the few talking heads I pay attention to when he is on programs like Chicago Tonight or an election night TV panel. Lots of pettiness and cheap shots on this endorsement here today which is a good get for Biss.

    Comment by Responsa Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 3:28 pm

  12. Well, it’s official. Biss will not win.

    Comment by Anonymous Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 3:32 pm

  13. ==a good get for Biss==

    How does it put him more than one vote (Simpson’s own) closer to winning?

    Comment by Arsenal Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 3:41 pm

  14. Are they doing this from Simpson’s taxpayer funded desk at the U of I

    Comment by Annonin' Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 3:55 pm

  15. ===What about Newton Minow?===

    I think he went with Chris.

    Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 4:02 pm

  16. What about the ghost of Leon Despres?

    Comment by 47th Ward Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 4:06 pm

  17. @47th Ward:

    Simpson has been a professor at UIC since he left the City Council and he is often a guest on panel discussion programs on politics. He is not an obscure personality to people who follow public affairs.

    Comment by W Flag Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 4:10 pm

  18. ===Simpson has been a professor at UIC since he left the City Council===

    Well, he left the City Council in 1979. Can’t we simply call him Professor Simpson? I refuse to call him “former Alderman” in the same way I refuse to call Billy Marovitz “Senator.” The statute of limitations has expired.

    And if he’s such a brilliant political mind, why does he still need to remind everyone that he was an Alderman 38 years ago? Has he done anything since then?

    Comment by 47th Ward Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 4:19 pm

  19. Dick Simpson. The race is over. Pritzker should pack it up and go home.

    Comment by Shytown Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 4:27 pm

  20. I was a Teaching Assistant for Dick Simpson at UICC in…1970 and Kaufmann’s in Skokie has the best bagels.

    Comment by Retired SURS Employee Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 4:36 pm

  21. Best Bagels are Schmaltz in Naperville

    Comment by Reggie Redbird Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 4:52 pm

  22. ===the same way I refuse to call Billy Marovitz “Senator.”===

    I used to call him “Mr. Hefner,” but I had to stop.

    Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Dec 12, 17 @ 4:57 pm

  23. Chris’s smile always looks like someone just stomped on his foot. Poor guy

    Comment by Anonymous Wednesday, Dec 13, 17 @ 8:31 am

  24. Someone give 47th ward a hug because they’re having a crisis. Trying to diminish 3 people’s accomplishments because you have none is a pretty crappy thing to do.
