“Recently, the Governor outlined his top ten ‘victories.’ The truth, however, is that Bruce Rauner did things not even Democrats would do when Pat Quinn was Governor and they had supermajorities in both chambers of the General Assembly. I submit:
Benedict Rauner’s 10 Betrayals in 2017
1. Folding to Madigan. From State Rep. Peter Breen, House Republican Floor Leader, “I personally observed him badly botch negotiations with the General Assembly on a variety of subjects, finally getting to the point where Governor Rauner couldn’t even be in the same room as House Speaker Mike Madigan. Madigan is the one guy who Rauner promised to stand up to, but he can’t or won’t even enter the arena for that fight.”
2. HB 40. From the man who said he had “no social agenda” Benedict Rauner told Illinois families he would veto the legislation. He committed to the GOP legislative caucuses that he would veto the legislation. Instead he became the first governor in U.S. history to initiate taxpayer funding for abortion on demand, all nine months of pregnancy. This creates a new, open-ended entitlement at a time when Illinois has $16 billion in unpaid bills to vendors and social service providers.
3. Sanctuary State. From the man who said he had “no social agenda” Benedict Rauner joined leftist governors like California’s Jerry Brown in designating Illinois a “sanctuary state” the effect of which is inhibiting the cooperation between local, state and federal law enforcement. This legislation make Illinois families less safe.
4. Trans Birth Certificates. From the man who said he had “no social agenda” Benedict Rauner signed legislation to allow individuals to change the sex listed on their birth certificate. Dr. Michelle Cretella, President of the American College of Pediatricians, recently wrote: ‘No one is born transgender. If gender identity were hardwired in the brain before birth, identical twins would have the same gender identity 100 percent of the time. But they don’t. Biological sex is not assigned. Sex is determined at conception by our DNA and is stamped into every cell of our bodies. An identity is not biological, it is psychological. It has to do with thinking and feeling. Thoughts and feelings are not biologically hardwired. Our thinking and feeling may be factually right or factually wrong.’ Rauner’s legislation will put grown men in women’s bathrooms with girls and boys in girls’ locker rooms.
5. Public Sector Utility Bailout. Rauner negotiated a $2.35 billion bail out of a company that makes over $2 billion in profit a year - that doesn’t make sense. Since Illinois produces 40% more electricity than we consume, our residents are subsidizing cheaper power to residents in other states. And the same crony subsidy Exelon argued for in IL, they argued against for their competition in Ohio.
6. Bailout of Chicago Public School Pensions. Benedict Rauner’s $100K wine club buddy Rahm said of Rauner’s bailout, Chicago Public Schools got everything he wanted “and more”.
7. Rauner Promised the State Income Tax Would be Down to 3% by the End of His First Term. Instead, it’s back up to Pat Quinn levels at 4.95%. Rauner saw 15 of his bought-and-paid for House Republicans vote with Mike Madigan to pass the 32% increase while he sat impotently by.
8. Same old politics. Rauner won’t answer questions about the dismissal of his former general counsel and a memo surfaced suggesting that Rauner was intent on using state resources for political purposes, one of the bases that sent two former governors to federal prison.
9. No Action on the State’s Two Largest Issues: Pensions and Property Taxes. In a 2014 campaign ad, Bruce Rauner blasted Pat Quinn for property tax rates that were the second highest, saying ‘He just doesn’t get it.’ Today, according to the Wall Street Journal, ‘Property taxes in Cook County and Chicago’s “collar” counties are the highest in the country outside of California and the Northeast. In 2014, Governor Rauner repeatedly said he would replace traditional pensions for public workers with 401(k)-style retirement plans. Three years later, Fitch Ratings reports that Illinois’s unfunded pension liabilities equaled 22.8% of residents’ personal income last year, compared to a median of 3.1% across all states and 1% in Florida.’
10. “I am not in charge.” Rauner ended the year with a Freudian slip, admitting that he has ceded control of Illinois to Mike Madigan and Chicago Democrats.
“Is this the new face of the Illinois GOP? Will Republicans accept their thirty pieces of silver to continue backing Benedict Rauner, or will they reject him in advancement of their stated values and principles? On March 20, we will find out.”

It’s too bad there’s no confederate monuments in Illinois. It feels that’s all she’s missing in her greatest hits tour of far-right tropes.

The social issues are a turnoff. She criticizes for an apparent about-face on not having a social agenda, yet she keeps using those issues to get votes.

Just because everyone’s doing a top ten list doesn’t mean a top ten list should be done.
Top Three list is more than enough.
Whoever thought this list up should be sent back to the locker room - whichever room they identify.

Explain why “no social agenda” is an issue in the GOP Primary and why Rauner, just yesterday, made a point he donated and supported pro-life candidates.

If Ives wants to convince voters that she’s not simply about social issues, she should probably stop from campaigning on them almost exclusively. And maybe start offering us reasons why she believes she has a snowballs chance in you-know-where of ever winning a statewide election.
Seems to me Ives and the loonies in her ranks (including some representatives I formerly had respect for) would rather lose the election running a “true conservative” than win with Reagan’s 80% rule. Not sure what they think that will accomplish.

Oh, Jeanne Ives.. The Governor’s reflection on his 1st year in office should have been a warning to you and all republicans.
“Sometimes I’m too blunt, too direct, I would say. I call it as I see it, and sometimes that can alienate somebody or a group,” he said. “Sometimes I’m impatient; sometimes I’ve just got to be more patient. I’m not that way by nature.”

The American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) is a socially conservative advocacy group of healthcare professionals. The group was formed as a protest against the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) support for adoption by gay couples.
Reports vary, but ACPeds appears to have somewhere between 200-500 members. By contrast, the AAP has 60,000 members.

I’m also waiting for more reporters to ask Ives about her past comments toward the LGBT community. If it’s on the list, she wants to make it an issue that’s up for discussion.

That’s what Rauner gets for making his top 10 list and daring to claim any accomplishments. Ives handed it back to him on a plate. And whether or not someone is born transgender, people have no business judging others, what makes them happy, and what their desires are (no matter what they stem from). Life is too short to judge others and, in the case of the transgender population, being judged by so many hypocrites and phonies.

If they are still wine club buddies after this 2015 comment, then I’m afraid to hear what Rauner has to say about his enemies. And does the “Its outrageous that the Mayor’s trying to blame me and others for his failure” sound familiar? Remove the “Mayor’s” and insert any name. As it was discussed yesterday, it’s never Bruce’s fault…..
And the governor admonished Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, with whom he shared an expensive bottle of wine a few years ago after the two millionaires worked together on a merger deal. Rauner said Emanuel is a lot more conservative than the mayor puts on in public.
“(I want the mayor to) say publicly what he’ll say privately. He’s not fighting for his city,” Rauner said. “Its outrageous that the Mayor’s trying to blame me and others for his failure.
“But you guys are supposed to be pals, friends. Are you not friends anymore?” we asked.
“Anybody who helps me improve the quality of life and future for Illinois residents is my friend. Anybody who blocks it is not my friend,” Rauner saud.

The Governor says he isn’t in charge in 2017, but in 2015:
“I am the head of the Republican Party, so I’ll be involved in advocating for candidates,” said Rauner….

I am loving every minute of her campaign. She can really stick it to Rauner, can’t she? She’s like the bizarro-Mendoza. And it’s obviously getting under his skin, otherwise he wouldn’t have tried to pull that bone-headed stunt on 1340 AM the other day.
Now if only there were a liberal billionaire here in Illinois that could back-channel her a couple million bucks in donations….

-PJ-, I assume you have not been to Camp Butler National Cemetery just outside Springfield in the last 12 years if ever. From the NPS web site: ” The Confederate prisoners of war are buried in the northern half of the cemetery. … In 2005, the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Sons of Confederate Veterans dedicated a monument to Confederate soldiers who died as prisoners of war at Camp Butler.”

Ives thinking that rauner is too liberal just goes to show how right wing some of the Republican Party has become. The state and trends point to more liberal policies, particularly social policies. Ives does not have a chance at winning. Her ideas are fringe at best.

I have yet to hear any “conservative” explain how the trans birth certificate issue hurts other people. Do they really think that someone is going to spend tens of thousands of dollars for hormone therapy and surgeries just to take a peak in someone else’s bathroom that is unlocked?

You put conservative in quotes as though whoever responds to you has to first pass a test of certification before you would read anything written. Then you follow up with a scenario no one is saying.
