  1. Sir, I hope you get a nap and wake up as good as new. Also, I thank you for the weekends music from War. Always loved that song. Always liked that band. Please get healthy.

  2. And if it is the flu, Tamiflu really works well, esp if started withing 48 hours.

  4. Noticed how as soon as the Raiders signed Chucky to a $100M contract, the Bears immediately hired someone who has never been a head coach anywhere and has only called the plays for five games as OC (including the Chiefs’ playoff choke).

The market for coaches just got a lot more expensive, and the Bears wanted to make sure they could still get someone on the cheap.

  5. Take care, Rich.

This bug is nothing to mess with, it lingers if not treated.

  6. Flu is pretty crazy this year. Reporting in from SoCal, hospitals/ER’s are turning away younger or able bodied people and are only taking in seniors and infants to bring their temperatures down. The goal of people heading to the ER’s is to get a tamiflu script.
Pharmacies are out of tamiflu (the effectiveness of the drug is sketchy to begin with). It’s already killed some seniors who had existing health issues.

At this point, I’m thinking N. Korea is more likely to blow themselves up in a failed launch and the USA will be wiped out by it’s own citizens via health epidemic. My worst case scenario prediction.

  7. Take care of it Rich. I had it, lasted four days then felt better for a few then it came roaring back.

  8. In case you missed it over the holidays, five suburban states attorneys, then Cook County, have sued Big Pharma over the opioid crisis.

“The source of this crisis is not street corners,” Lake County State’s Attorney Michael Nerheim said at a Thursday news conference in Wheaton announcing the litigation. “It’s in boardrooms.”

That’s strong meat from a politician from Lake County, home to Abbott Labs. They were among those sued, and they are way big heat in Illinois.

Drug overdoses, prescription or otherwise, are now the leading cause of death of Americans under 50.

And not one of those overdose deaths is due to marijuana.

  11. How are you ladies and gents feeling about the hiring of Matt Nagy as Bears Head Coach?

Comment by Stones Tuesday, Jan 9, 18 @ 1:45 pm

  12. @ Wordslinger

Some interesting data there. It’s only until about 2015 that prescription opioid deaths exceeded heroin deaths. I’m guessing the spike in prescription deaths might be tied to Fentanyl being introduced in late 2006. A salt shaker of that stuff can take out whole neighborhoods. Practically impossible to stop it being shipped in from Asia for illegal sale.

Comment by California Guy Tuesday, Jan 9, 18 @ 1:45 pm

  13. Wordslinger:

If your entire basis for not liking Matt Nagy is for something that happened in the 2nd half of a playoff game, relax. Many factors when into that loss.

Easy to point to Chiefs’ December awakening with Nagy inserted as play caller — deservedly so — as main resume piece. But don’t gloss over role Nagy had alongside Reid and Childress in reinventing Alex Smith at age 33. It’s one of the bigger stories of this NFL season.

Hard to go wrong with a hire within the Andy Reid coaching tree, especially when he’s regarded as the best potential HC candidate he’s ever had. High praise for Nagy.

Nagy isn’t a safe hire but he’s also a hire that could make Ryan Pace & Mitch Trubisky look really darn good if it all works out.

  14. Vox has an interactive piece on school segregation. You can see how lines are drawn for school districts in Illinois. At the end there’s a bit about a researcher talking to a bunch of people who live in Chicago and asking them if they know anything about certain neighborhoods. Worth a read.

I’ve been wondering about this. Do we know for sure that Nagy was calling the plays? Reid let him call the plays during the latter part of the regular season, but not sure if Reid let him do so in the playoffs.

  16. I spent a lil time in Lake View these past few days, and passing Wrigley, that construction site is hopping with all kinds of busy. I’m waiting for a tweet from Tina, men watching construction from Clark and Addison…

Can they get that phase completed in time?

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jan 9, 18 @ 2:26 pm

  17. –Do we know for sure that Nagy was calling the plays?–

Yes. He was asked about it in his press conference, and said “I called every play in the second half”

  21. Rich, take it easy and get better. Whatever is going around is nasty this year.

Maybe it is because he’s not feeling well, but this time, unlike most times, Rich did not tell us to keep it Illinois-centric.

With that in mind, do the football fans here all agree that it is time for Arsenal to fire Wenger?

Anyone see that Diana Rickert filed a lawsuit against the Guv’s office seeking emails regarding the abortion bill, and emails sent to Rasmussen about “internet browsing history for state employees”? Filed by the good folks at Liberty Justice Center.

Maybe she’s trying to figure out who she can blame for typing “as a white male”…

… you know, who looked up “things never to put in press releases” or “things you write in PR to lose credibility”…

To the suit itself? I’m wondering aloud if Rickert already knows what’s in those emails.

Yeah, I’m a real CarNac with that guess.

Really interesting It’s not like she’s a reporter on a fishing expedition. She knows the exact email(s) she’s looking for and the Gov is fighting to keep it (them) under wraps. Should be good fodder for Jeanne Ives’ cannons.

Just kidding. Hope you get better soon, Rich.

  33. So today, we saw Pres. Trump on the TV box with a couple dozen bipartisan Congresscritters. He was stable, reasonable, engaged, alert, and talking about love, compromise and taking the heat as president for the greater good.

We also saw a smiling crew of North Korean diplomats cross the DMZ, shake hands and engage with their South Korean counterparts, and come out of the meeting saying their athletes would march together in the Olympics.

Hey, Miller — we’ve got the makings of a heater here. Don’t f— it up. Stay in bed.

  34. That spot with Crazee Eyez Walker and the IN, MO governors (whoever they are) is running constantly on the sporting events up here in the Chicago market.

Has anyone seen research that it pulls? Because it’s way old now. And those hicks ain’t exactly Hans Solo (’women love him, men want to be him’) among the persuadables up yonder here.

  36. I work for one of the smallest state agencies in terms or personnel for nearly 18 years.

I’ve seen administration’s come and go but I can honestly say that this administrations team at my agency is the most inept and wasteful administration I’ve ever seen.

We have completely stopped helping the public, when someone has a complaint in IL in our jurisdiction we basically do nothing until that person files an OIEG complaint because that goes to governors office so then we have to help.

We also have more members of upper management than anytime in the last 18 years. These people are making over 100k a year and they literally have no experience outside of being a Rauner supporter.

You may not see what I see but from my perspective, Rauners team is a massive joke.
