Illinois is one of the least affected states during federal shutdown

* It’s possible that the federal shutdown could end soon, but this is still useful information…

Hi Rich,

With the U.S. government closed for business for the 19th time since 1976 and a lot of blame going back and forth, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on the States Most & Least Affected by the 2018 Government Shutdown to add some hard data to all the rhetoric.

WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia in terms of six key metrics, ranging from each state’s share of federal jobs and contracts to the percentage of kids covered by CHIP. You can check out some of the main findings below.

Impact of the Government Shutdown on Illinois (1=Most Affected, 25=Avg.):

The full report is here. Illinois ranked 44th overall. Indiana was 49th, Michigan was 50th and Minnesota was 51st.

  4. Not surprising, we get very little back from the Federal government. Our congressional representation is atrocious

  5. I thought Illinois had a President for 8 years and the #2 Democrat in the Senate for the past 12 years.

It is a shame they can’t bring more Federal dollars back to Illinois. Not going to get any better with all if the resist Trump rhetoric.

Given the general attitudes about Washington DC by the voters, the best solution would be to spread more of the Federal workforce around the country.

There is no reason to have 5 of the 6 wealthiest counties in America be the Washington DC suburbs.

  6. 72 years on this planet and I am just learning that the role of THE federal govt was to send money my way. No wonder I am such a failure.

  8. I wonder why WalletHub doesn’t add a metrix that factors in SS,Medicair/Medicaid and if it did what that would do to rankings.

  10. We need way better leadership representing Illinois in D.C. if we hope to see more federal money come back to Illinois. Personally, I hope we see turnover of at least 6 Congressional Seats this year, including in the 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 13th, & 14th.

Those who crave bi-partisanship will love my list as it features 3 Democrats and 3 Republicans. We need Newman over Lipinski, Mustafa over Quigley, and Clark over Davis in the Dem Primary. Would love Dr. Gill to be the nominee in the 13th. All are Justice Democrats.

  14. We have a younger population than the national average, so that should indicate we get less as well.
