Uihlein contributes $2 million to Ives

* Click here for the A-1. Press release…

The Ives for Illinois campaign is pleased to announce it has received a $2 million donation from businessman Dick Uihlein. These funds will support and ensure that Jeanne Ives is able to introduce herself to the GOP primary electorate and present a clear choice for those voters between the crony bailouts and extreme Left social policy agenda of Gov. Rauner’s and the conservative reform policy record and vision of Ives.

Ives has now raised more than $3.5 million in the few short weeks of her insurgent campaign against Gov. Rauner.

“Mr. Uihlein’s commitment to a conservative reform policy revolution is humbling as is the commitment of of every donor and volunteer to our campaign,” said Ives. “People doing what they can with what they have is how we win this race for the people who play by the rules and do their part to make Illinois a great place to live, work and raise a family. A state government aligned with their interests is long overdue in Illinois.”

  5. I agree with Real 100%. Where did you people think the GOP was heading after Trump?

Comment by Rogue Roni Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:08 am

  6. Yeah? Back it up, Nostradamus. What will Ives percentage be in the GOP primary due to this “ad that works?”

Her issues could have been raised in a serious manner befitting a serious candidate. She wasted any respect she had earned for clobbering Rauner in troncsylvania with typical low-rent, juvenile, Proft nastiness.

But, obviously, Sugar Daddy Dick goes for that sort of thing, which is all that matters.

Comment by wordslinger Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:13 am

  7. No question that Ives is Speaker Madigan’s favorite Republican. He is loving every minute of Ives catering to the most extreme voters in Illinois. I get why Rauner doesn’t want to mention Ives very much, but he would do himself and the ILGOP some good by forcefully condemning the hate filled ad that the Ives camp is airing. Makes me cringe to watch it.

Comment by SuburbanRepublican Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:14 am

  8. @ Real and @ Rogue Roni, what’s your point? A fraction of people agree wholeheartedly with racism and transphobia, therefore no one should decry those forms of hatred?

Comment by Perrid Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:14 am

  9. “Real”? Real sad. Nice of you to recognize that no one supports a party 100% of the time. As a ‘transgender’ I am disappointed that you choose to not ’support’ my common humanity. I can only guess at your reasoning, but that guess involves many myths, scare tactics & outright lies. Guess what? I just want to use the bathroom for the same reason you want to use the bathroom. I’d point out the similarities I am facing - people who would see me as something less than human & therefore not worthy of equal treatment - to the challenges black Americans once faced. But gonna guess again that instead of inspiring empathy you’ll be offended. #startseeinghumanity

  10. “Where did you people think the GOP was heading after Trump?”

Assuming this is right, and it probably is…

Ives or any candidate with the same views has zero chance of winning a general election for governor in Illinois in 2018. So what’s the point? For all of Rauner’s faults, he at least understood that to win in Illinois a candidate with hard-right social views has to soft-pedal/avoid/speak out of both sides of their mouth on these issues to attract GOP voters without disgusting everyone else. This ain’t Mississippi.

Have you heard Ives mention Trump? Clearly, she thinks he’s radioactive today even in an Illinois GOP primary.

  12. I thought the “Thanks Rauner” ad might have signified that no more Ulhlein cash was coming, so Ives had to throw a bit of a Hail Mary pass to grab earned media attention.

$2 million more in the bank. Now we know that ad was just Jeanne being Jeanne, and Proft being Proft.

Comment by Roman Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:18 am

  13. It’s one thing to point out Rauner’s uber-left, costal limousine liberal Democratic agenda that IS the Rauner record in bill signings…

… it’s another to promote a position with such a vile, disgusting ad.

I’ve said for weeks the social agenda framing is how Ives sees the race, she’s said as much, but the issue is Rauner can’t wish away his signatures for taxpayer-funded abortions, “sanctuary state” legislation, criminal justice reform, and throwing in a “She-Caw-Go” schools bailout… Rauner can’t deny these thoughts, unless he wants to defend these signatures.

Rauner has yet to support his signatures, clarify the obvious misrepresentations, or make a case he’s doing right… for the Republican Primary.

Rauner wants the NCAA basketball tournament ending in March; survive and advance.

Then Rauner requires the binary choice…

Ignore the uber-left, costal limousine liberal Democratic social agenda that Diana Rauner required, and vote Rauner…

    … or you support Madigan.

The Uihlein money is designed to keep the far Riggt away from Rauner, not just for March, but April and beyond.

It’s a disgusting way to make a “policy” point… but Rauner has yet to defend his policy… so…

Comment by Terry Salad Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:31 am

  24. I don’t think the Illinois GOP is the same as, say, the Alabama GOP, but I can see the strategy behind this ad. Rauner won the GOP primary with a split field and though most of the candidates he lost to weren’t social conservatives or even 1%er libertarian-leaning conservatives, are those moderate anti-Rauner voters going to even show up? Meanwhile you have some union folks planning to vote for Ives in hopes of short circuiting Rauner - such strategic crossover voting is usually pretty minimal, but with Rauner…I dunno. So yeah, maybe turn out the red meat: sure you could do that more seriously than that ad, but with not a lot of time left maybe the free media makes up for it. This IS the party that offered Alan Keyes up to be one of the most powerful men on the planet.

  26. To further my point… the Rauner response to negative ad;

===Governor Rauner is the only candidate in either party who will take on Mike Madigan, cut taxes, and reform our state. Representative Ives has already admitted that she’s not willing to take on Mike Madigan and will keep his 32% tax hike — not surprising given her history of opposing property tax reductions. Looks like JB Pritzker has some competition as Mike Madigan’s favorite candidate.===

Not one word on the ad and it’s legitimacy in a context of policy, no clarification of the “sanctuary state” mythology, no discussion on the school funding victory…

It’s Madigan…. please ignore the policy aspects, but let’s discuss how this presentation of my “policies I won’t defend or explain” in hopes of surviving and advancing…

    Rauner signed HB40

Rauner signed the “TRUST Act”, characterized as a “sanctuary state bill”

Rauner signed what he called a “Chicago schools bailout”… at times

Rauner signed those and other bills… but “because Madigan”… after March… so ignore the policy, condone its presentation

But, that’s why this ad is genius to its warped disgusting method.

  54. @real- did you not read my earlier post or are you choosing to ignore it? The world is passing you by. People have been able to change the gender marker on their birth certificates in numerous states - for decades now in some. The sky has not fallen. What has happened is that people have been able to focus on living their authentic lives and doing all the crazy things that trans people want to do - you know, like use public bathrooms and ensure their identity documents reflect their truths. Using the bathroom that coincides with your gender identity should be one’s own business- but because of the fear-mongering, false information & spate of so-called ‘bathroom’ bills, it isn’t. Yet. Bills like the ones passed in Illinois are literally life saving for some transgender people & harm no one. Catch up, would ya?

  55. ===Well, since the Governor didn’t sign a bill allowing that then you shouldn’t have a problem.===

The real problem of the Ives/Proft attack is right there…

Rauner “can’t” explain that it’s not a “sanctuary state” or a whatever, or clarify things, because…

… explaining it… won’t bring back conservatives, it will only highlight on policy where Rauner may not be with them, which they assume by assuming wrong all these bills.

HB40 is the lone bill, so liberal, even “liberal California couldn’t get it passed or signed”.

The wicked, twisted awful genius of the ad is Rauner can’t refute the record that the disgusting ad wants to warp, becsuse by doing so, it won’t help, it highlights that Rauner is still “too far left” for some

  72. I don’t think Rich will allow “Real” back, but for the wondering about the comment “take a pill and change from black to white”, Google ” Black Like Me”, and read the Wikipedia article that comes up.

“Black Like Me” was written by a gentleman in the very late 1950s-early 1960s. He took a medicine that changed his white skin to black for six weeks, then traveled throughout the American South documenting his experiences.

(Spoiler alert: they tended to be pretty negative.)

So, I’m not sure if Real brought this up because he feels this type of change is “deceptive”, or if it’s an objection to people trying to appropriate African-American culture without experiencing the pain that created it.

But don’t take this as support of Real’s comments or Jeanne Ives’ ad. I don’t agree with Real, and the ad is abhorrent.
