* Press release

Representative Jeanne Ives, challenger to incumbent Governor Bruce Rauner, has released a new radio ad statewide. The :60 second spot, Lead the Charge, contrasts Ives record as a conservative reformer with Rauner’s record of betrayal.

The audio is here.

* Transcript

Now that I’ve got your attention…

My name is Jeanne Ives and I’m the conservative Republican running against Bruce Rauner for Governor.

I’m an economic liberty, pro-family West Point grad.

I’ve spent the last five years battling Chicago Democrats.

I didn’t think I’d have to spend so much time battling Bruce Rauner.

But when Rauner betrayed conservative families, that’s exactly what I did.

Rauner made Illinois a sanctuary state. I voted against it.

Rauner made you pay for abortions in all nine months of pregnancy. I voted against it–and so did every other Republican legislator.

Rauner took money from your schools to bail out the Chicago Public Schools. I voted against it.

National Review has called Rauner the worst Republican governor in the country, because he is.

Rauner betrayed us.

I honor who we are as conservatives.

Rauner can’t win re-election.

He said he’s not in charge.

With your help, I’ll lead the charge.

*** UPDATE 1 *** I was sent this new Personal PAC social media ad last night and forgot to post it today

*** UPDATE 2 *** Press release…

Statement in response to Ives ad from Jennifer Welch, Planned Parenthood Illinois Action PAC Chair:

“The latest misleading ad from Jeanne Ives further perpetuates falsehoods about abortion care in Illinois. Ives continues to attack a legal medical procedure by making untrue claims about specific details that are not a part of House Bill 40. To be clear, HB 40 did not include any language regarding when abortions are performed. Illinoisans expect their elected officials to tell the truth. Rep. Ives is falsely representing a law and misleading voters.”

*** UPDATE 3 *** Press release…

The following can be ascribed to Colleen K. Connell, executive director of the ACLU of Illinois:

Seeking the Governor’s office in Illinois, Representative Jeanne Ives seems determined to mislead the electorate. Her campaign’s new radio advertisement ignores the reality that House Bill 40 – passed and signed into law over her objections – simply ensures access to health care (including abortion care) for low-income women and some state workers in Illinois. It did nothing – nothing – to expand or alter when abortion care is legal in our state. She may have opposed the legislation, but she cannot mislead people as to its actual meaning and intent.

  1. Are there really voters who think that anybody can just walk in to see a doctor while pregnant at nine months and get an abortion?

You would think somebody who claims to be pro-family and conservative who view honesty as a virtue.

Apparently, that’s not the case with Rep. Ives.

  2. ==Now that I’ve got your attention…==

…OK, that’s pretty good. No idea if it moves votes, but I, at least, appreciate the wink.

  3. Does Jeannie and her people not know that Illinois is not Alabama? Even if she wins against Rauner (she won’t) there is no way that she can pivot from this stuff to be competitive in November.

Comment by TominChicago Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 10:25 am

  4. Except Illinois isn’t a sanctuary state, people don’t have abortions at 9 months, and all the schools, even private schools, got money. Sheesh.

  5. With a wink and a nod… to herself…

Really fine follow up and covers what I thought she would angle her campaign on…

    Rauner isn’t a Republican, Rauner isn’t a conservative… “here’s why… “

  6. ===Except Illinois isn’t a sanctuary state, people don’t have abortions at 9 months, and all the schools, even private schools, got money.===

    “But”…

Explaining that… exposes Rauner as an admitted “left” candidate in this Primary.

Rauner has yet… to talk to the policy or the signatures.

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 10:29 am

  7. OW. Do you still believe Ives helps Rauner by making him look reasonable and moderate?

    I do. Thanks.

  8. Its the message she needs to send. My biggest criticism is that maybe she should practice the script a few times before hitting the record button on her kids American Girl tape recorder. It sounds like she recorded it on a first take in the bathroom.

  9. “Now that I’ve got your attention…”

Must every Republican candidate sneer like a cartoon villain?

  10. - don the legend -

    Yep.

But here’s the rub and Ives told too much at the City Club.

The goal isn’t for Ives to win, and even if Rauner seems more reasonable, fine…

… Ives wants Rauner “Mark Kirk’d“ in the Heneral.

Ives and Proft want the base to burn down the support for Rauner, making his cake like Kirk’s, and it didn’t bake.

I just didn’t expect Ives and Proft to burn everything down… maybe I did, but… lol

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 10:35 am

  11. What is economic liberty?

    Comment by 360 Degree TurnAround Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 10:43 am

  12. Not bad, although let’s face it, Rauner really wasn’t a “betrayer” for Ives until Rauner cut off the checks to Dan Proft & Co.

    Comment by Chris P. Bacon Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 10:44 am

  13. I do really dislike the divisive pitting of Chicago vs. the rest of the state. It’s not only lazy, it’s not leadership.

    Comment by Chris P. Bacon Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 10:48 am

  14. Like the contrast expressed at the end of the ad: he said he’s not in charge, I’ll lead the charge.

Comment by GA Watcher Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 10:52 am

  15. While I would agree that Ives helps Rauner look more moderate I don’t think that look will help him. Anyone is going to look more moderate in comparison to Ives. What she clearly does is underscore that Rauner isn’t at all conservative. The effects of that are far more damaging particularly if it suppresses votes in November. Rauner was able to stay in the middle of the fairway last time being just conservative and/or moderate enough.

This time around Rauner needs rock solid conservative support and whatever moderates he can cobble together to have any chance at success. If conservatives don’t show up in November simply pointing a finger at Madigan won’t be nearly enough.

Comment by Pundent Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 10:54 am

  16. I would assume economic liberty means free market capitalism.

Comment by Steve Rogers Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 10:57 am

  17. Are Chicagoans really going to Wheaton to beat up Jeanne?

I assume ‘economic liberty’ means not having to let certain people buy your wedding cakes.

    Comment by Cheryl44 Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 11:02 am

  18. Every candidate on both sides has issues, but one fact cannot be denied and sits at the number one spot for priorities: Rauner failed and offer no future for Illinois.

    He has to go now.

Comment by VanillaMan Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 11:02 am

  19. Give me economic liberty or give me . . . meh.

    Comment by 37B Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 11:17 am

  20. = You would think somebody who claims to be pro-family and conservative who view honesty as a virtue. =

Yeah, that “thou shalt not bear false witness” thingy is just a recommendation, you know…

Comment by cover Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 11:20 am

  21. I thought “economic liberty” was a suggestion that Rauner was not doing enough to bash unions, and I found that sort of amusing.

That being said, in reading the comments and reviewing her last ad, I now believe those who think it means she favors discrimination against gays are probably correct. She sure does dislike certain voters.

Comment by Gooner Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 11:34 am

  22. you can vote Rauner out now, or wait nine months and let him fester until he is aborted

  24. She is going to continue to do damage. Rauner is vulnerable, and has a very poor history regarding the Republican platform. Her constant reminders can not help but leave a very dark mark. She wants him beat, by her if possible, but anyone else will do.

Comment by Retired Educator Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 12:02 pm

  25. @OswegoWilly

Despite his rhetoric, Proft is an opportunistic nihilist. One need only look at his work history to understand that. Unless of course, someone in this state believes that actual Republicans run Cicero.

Comment by Anonymous Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 12:09 pm

  26. “Rauner betrayed conservative families”

During his election campaign Gov. Bruce Rauner very clearly assured voters on many occasions that he had “no social agenda.” He therefore cannot have betrayed anyone, either liberal or conservative, with his actions and inactions on various social issues. If you make no promises then there are no promises to break.

And thus, Terry Cosgrove’s plan comes to fruition.
