Pro-life group launches GOTV effort for Lipinski

Posted in:

* Press release

Today the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) announced that its canvassing team will go door-to-door in Illinois’ 3rd congressional district ahead of the primary election on March 20 to mobilize voters to turn out for Rep. Dan Lipinski and defeat NARAL-backed challenger Marie Newman.

The group of 70 canvassers, which includes SBA List staff and students from nearby universities, plans to visit each of 17,000 pro-life Democrat households twice in the final five days of the race. The GOTV effort is part of a six-figure campaign that includes digital ads and voter contact mail.

“Dan Lipinski is one of the few remaining pro-life Democrats in Congress, and he has shown extraordinary courage,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “He stood firm against Obamacare’s expansion of taxpayer-funded abortion under intense pressure from party leaders to give in.”

* Illinois Review

As to whether their efforts to promote Lipinski in the Democrat primary could take away from Republican pro-life candidate Jeanne Ives in the statewide IL GOP gubernatorial primary, Quigley said the group’s primary mission from D.C. is federal offices.

“SBA List’s primary mission is at the federal level. We are also proud to have endorsed Jeanne Ives, a champion for unborn children and their mothers, in the gubernatorial primary. This is the only statewide primary in which we are involved.”

The group contributed $5,000 to Ives earlier this month.

  1. ===Democrat households===

    Here’s a tip: don’t insult them.

  4. This is really interesting. I’d hate to be an election judge in Oak Lawn on Tuesday. Gonna be arguing with a lot of old-timers who want both Republican and Democratic ballots.

  5. I am deeply offended these people are called pro-life. Unless of course each of them have done anything to make it easier for children to receive real sex ed and for everyone to have access to free birth control.

  6. Free birth control?

  7. –“SBA List’s primary mission is at the federal level.–

    I wonder why, in this case? The House of Reps has nothing to do with federal judges.

    GOP state governments have been leading the charge to limit access to abortion. Don’t they want to punish Rauner?

    Comment by wordslinger Friday, Mar 16, 18 @ 1:57 pm

  8. Yes, free birth control. Or would you rather pay more in taxes down the road for higher enrollments at public schools, increased utilization of emergency services and transportation infrastructure, and increased health care premiums. The insurance company isn’t going to eat the loss for that new coverage itself, who do you think they’re gonna have pay for it? Just a thought.

  9. Ives and the Democratic congressmen she controls

    Comment by Anonymous Friday, Mar 16, 18 @ 1:59 pm

  10. I am deeply offended by people that take biology in school and can’t figure out that human life begins at conception. You really think the majority of woman and men that have sex do not know how a pregnancy occurs and how to prevent it?

    Comment by Stand Tall Friday, Mar 16, 18 @ 2:03 pm

  11. Stark. So abortion is a tool for fighting tax increases. Interesting thought. Euthenasia oughta keep medicaid down too. I think your on to something.

  12. It will be a great day when these theocratic groups are made irrelevant.

    Comment by TaylorvilleTornado Friday, Mar 16, 18 @ 2:16 pm

  13. Actually you said that. I said that not paying for contraception upfront will lead to increased societal costs down the road, which is undisputable. It’s like saying when you don’t pay for mental health treatment we pay for it later with Medicaid. Thanks for playing, try again.

    Comment by Stark Friday, Mar 16, 18 @ 2:16 pm

  14. Stark. Yeah that German guy made a speech about that. What was his name? Adolf something?

    Comment by Pieroge tirebiter Friday, Mar 16, 18 @ 2:19 pm

  15. Of course abortion saves money in the long run, in literally every possible way. We have way too many unwanted people now, can you imagine how bad it would be without abortion?

    Comment by Ron Friday, Mar 16, 18 @ 2:23 pm

  16. It’s fascinating to me that many of the same people that deny science when it comes to climate change are so quick to embrace and invoke science when they want to demonstrate their view that “life begins at conception”.

  17. ===I am deeply offended these people are called pro-life.===

    I agree that it’s not the best way to refer to this group. I think “pro-science” is a more accurate description.

  18. Taylorville, the fastest growing belief system in the US is non theists. Can’t happen fast enough.

    Comment by Ron Friday, Mar 16, 18 @ 2:27 pm

  19. I doubt there will be many Republicans asking for a Democratic ballot in order to vote for Lipinski. One reason is that party preference in a primary is a matter of public record. Pulling a D ballot can come back to haunt Republicans, such as when they ever run for office under the GOP banner, or apply for a government job under a GOP administration.

    On the other hand, if party preference were kept private, like which candidates we vote for, then that disincentive to cross over would be removed. But both parties oppose privacy for primary party preference.

  20. I oppose non party members voting in a party’s primary.

  21. Pieroge: In other words, you don’t actually have an argument, do you? You’ll have to do far better than a child-level insult. Please articulate a response to my position, not a knee jerk.

  22. We have way to many unwanted people in the world now. Says who?

    Stark. Kinda like illegal immigrants drive up societal costs. Undisputable.

  24. Colin..science. Interesting. In your opinion,based on science, what has greater impact on climate change. Tetonic activity, solar radiation, volcanic activity or human activity?

    Comment by Blue dog dem Friday, Mar 16, 18 @ 2:54 pm

  25. Making party preference private would boost voter turnout, since some citizens don’t want their party preference to be a matter of public record that could come back to haunt them.

    And the same can be said about those that envoke science in debating climate change but ignore the science when it comes to right to life.

  34. Newman has already seized on this news. Not only has the SBA List announced this publicly, but their disclosure forms reveal that they’re paying tens of thousands of dollars to bring in out of state volunteers via Southwest flights. They’re also covering their lodging costs.

    Newman has recruited tons of volunteers from this alone this morning. To say it’s backfiring is an understatement.

    Comment by Mike Friday, Mar 16, 18 @ 3:57 pm

  35. To make things more complicated for SBA List, they also endorsed Ives… and well, you can’t vote for both Lipinski and Ives.
