HRC does GOTV robo for JB

Posted in:

[Bumped up to Tuesday for visibilty.]

* Gov. Rauner has Newt Gingrich making robocalls, and JB Pritzker has Hillary Clinton

* Script

Hi. This is Hillary Clinton. I’ve spent my life fighting for children and families, and so has my good friend JB Pritzker. For decades, JB has worked to expand and improve early childhood education for at-risk youth in Illinois. He’s also worked with non-profits to bring school breakfasts to 230,000 children in Illinois so they have a better chance to succeed in school. I know JB personally, I know his values and I know that JB Pritzker will make a great governor for Illinois. Election day is tomorrow. I hope you will join me in supporting JB Pritzker. Please vote. Thank you very much.

  1. Imagine if Obama did one for JB in the general. It would be over for Rauner that quick.

  2. Here’s the reality…

Pritzker isn’t the Bernie Bros candidate…

The former President Obama isn’t wading in his home state’s Gov Primary…

Clinton won Illinois twice 2 years ago.

It’s a perfect fit to the closing night for this candidate.

Eveything else is prejudice outside of the real in the call and the choice.

  3. You are right OW, but Obamz will be weighing in in November.

  4. ===You are right OW, but Obamz will be weighing in in November.===

    Yep.

Rauner won’t get any favors, Dems will call in all the chits.

  5. this is smart because it is a multi way primary and HRC did well here. but despite the fact that I love her, and she got 2 million more votes than Trump, this will not change my vote. Pritzker no. Kennedy yes.

Comment by Amalia Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 11:09 pm

  6. Even among Democrats, is HRC that well liked?
Certainly anybody who voted for Sanders is still sore at how the DNC rigged the primary election for Hillary (thanks Donna Brazile and Wasserman Schultz).

And a certain percentage of those who voted for Hillary in the primary, have to be mad at her for running a terrible general election campaign. She took many days off the trail, never visited Wisconsin then lost it, was stand-offish on the trail (remember them keeping reporters away with a lasso), fundraising big bucks in New York and California, but forgetting that it takes 270 electoral votes to win, and to get that, you need to get your butt to the swing states!

So, in the end, this robocall won’t do much for JB. Still expect him to win, but wonder if Kennedy can pull of an upset.

Question: what’s more likely tomorrow, a Kennedy win or an Ives win?

  7. That’s the final straw. A HRC endorsement. Gonna get my voting marching orders from Mrs. Blue and it’s off to the polls.

  8. Well, he just cooked his own goose in many households.
Kennedy just gained a bunch of votes.

  10. Speaking of robo calls. The home landline rang until 10:30 last night.

Am 100% sure we are pulling the landline on April 1.

Both the Mrs. and I have already voted.

  12. Sorry Rich, but I am older than HRC and make no apologies for my opinion of one couple in this US of A. And it has nothing to do with any political opinion. I care nothing for what party anyone belongs to but all about the individual. Thank you for the most open and enlightening place to learn and exchange ideas that I’ve ever seen in my life time.

  13. It’s a good get for Pritzker and a bit of revenge for HRC - she was stung when Ted Kennedy (and also Caroline) endorsed Obama during the 2008 primaries.

Comment by lake county democrat Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:26 am

  14. HRC’s endorsement will certainly help Pritzker here in Illinois, and that’s a good thing. Rauner has 1 and only 1 advantage going into the general, and that was Money. JB winning nullifies that advantage and allows Democrats to focus spending on their at risk legislative races. Citizens has made it so that any time a rich guy gets into a race, he/she essentially buys the seat by drowning out all other messaging, and burying his opponent in falsehoods, while falsely touting his bonafides as the next Mother Theresa. Gotta meet fire with fire until Citizens is either overridden, or legislated out of existence.

Take back our Democracy from the Koch Brothers, and their ilk.

  15. Was this a statewide call?

  16. ==Even among Democrats, is HRC that well liked?==

Yes. In polls where I’ve seen her favorable ratings tested after the election, she’s still something like 75-20 amongst Democrats.

That said, I agree this robocall won’t do much for Prtizker simply because robocalls don’t swing many votes (do they swing any?)

  17. Clinton 2016 Dem primary: 1,039,555 votes.

Gingrich 2012 GOP primary: 74,482 votes — fewer than Ron Paul, many fewer than Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney.

  18. Is Illinois really Obama’s home state any longer? I have not seen any news highlights of him dropping by to cast a ballot during early voting this year.By all accounts, he has a new home in the District of Columbia. I am not aware of the Obama’s selling the house in Chicago, but he has not maintained much of a presence in Illinois since 2017.

Ulysses S. Grant was an Illinoisan at the time of his nomination and election in 1868, but during his post-presidency he and his family relocated to New York state. I have a feeling that Obama is not really going to be a Chicagoan once the Presidential Center is constructed.

  19. “Was this a statewide call?”

Most likely, got it in Cook, friends in DuPage, LaSalle, Champaign also got it.

Comment by Logan Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 8:52 am

  20. I’m not sure who, if anyone’s, relevance is improved with this particular move. Yet, since robocalls are heard by so few people, it’s impact is negligible. If they thought it was a great strategy they could’ve run her voice robo 3 days in a row. Even they were nervous about that maybe. OR, they’ve got a deficit with female voters. They did it for some reason.

  21. I think the call helps push the enthusiasm up a few points. Seals the deal. Some JB voters were likely to vote for him, but maybe not excited about it. I think the HRC call helps add some juice to his GOTV.

  23. She is still polarizing among Democrats, but quite a few more are on her side rather than the Bernie side.

I wonder if they were smart enough to target to precincts that Hillary won handily over Bernie. Though I believe she crushed Bernie statewide, so perhaps it doesn’t matter.

Comment by Robert the Bruce Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 9:12 am

  24. My robocall for JB used Jay Hoffman instead of HRC. Good thing, too, if mine had been from HRC I would have voted against JB instead of for him.

Comment by Collinsville Kevin Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 9:38 am

  25. I went out on Sunday with my wife to on Sunday to do some last-minute campaigning for JB in Carbondale and Marion by reminding registered Democratic voters that there was a primary on Tuesday and ask them to consider voting for JB. One of the people had no idea there was a primary on Tuesday or who was running while another loudly proclaimed that he never votes despite his name being on a list of registered Democratic voters. Maybe it’s just the Darwin principle at work and we’re all better off with such uninformed voters deleting themselves from the electoral gene pool. Makes you sad, though,

  28. =robocalls don’t swing many votes (do they swing any?) =

Not mine. The second I realize it’s a robocall, I hang up. I must say, though, that I’ve only gotten a couple this election cycle. Tons of mailers, but few calls. A bit surprising considering the gubernatorial and AG contests, not to mention the half-dozen candidates vying for Barbara Flynn Currie’s seat.

==By all accounts, he has a new home in the District of Columbia. I am not aware of the Obama’s selling the house in Chicago,==

The Obamas still own the house in Kenwood; you still can’t drive down that block of Greenwood. They are staying in Washington until Sasha graduates from high school.
