Jeanne Ives: “Bruce Rauner Lied”
17 days after the Republican primary, and instead of a unity event, state Rep. Jeanne Ives is calling Gov. Bruce Rauner a liar to anyone who will listen.
In an interview with EWTN Pro-Life Weekly last night, Jeanne Ives said “Bruce Rauner lied” to the Republican base and touted her close finish in the Republican primary. She then promised to continue holding the failed governor “accountable” for the rest of his term, while failing to offer even a hint of an endorsement of his reelection.
“48% of Illinois Republicans voted for someone else and Bruce Rauner is doing nothing to repair his fractured party,” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “Rauner’s approval ratings are in the gutter, his own party is in open revolt, and his chances at reelection look bleaker by the day.”

Me too. Rauner isn’t the only one to blame for Rauner. IPI was the architect of Rauner from the beginning.

She is going to be the thorn in the side of Rauner all the way to November. Every chance she gets, she will call him a liar. He has no chance to bring pro-life back unless she relents and makes nice. I don’t see that happening. With all his other troubles, and missteps this Governor looks a lot like a loser in the next election.

You might want to check your Catholic teaching first. Ives position on illegal immigration is fully in accord with Catholic teachings…”While individuals have the right to move in search of a safe and humane life, no country is bound to accept all those who wish to resettle there. By this principle the Church recognizes that most immigration is ultimately not something to celebrate”

If the goal continues to be to ensure Rauner is defeated in November, Ives and Proft will keep the pressure on.
Is it good pressure, that’s up for serious discussion.
Is Ives the right person, that too is up for serious discussionC but getting 48% against Rauner, that’s a serious number against any incumbent in their own primary.

Rauner brought Republicans to the abyss of disaster and fiscal junk status…then pushed them off the cliff because a good number of brave and commendable GOP legislators had enough of his hostage-taking and voted for the tax hike and budget. He didn’t join them in making the tough but necessary votes, though he clearly allowed the votes to stand.
It’s terrible to retaliate with something like voting for abortion, that is so opposed by social conservatives and previous Rauner supporters.
Rauner and his allies trashing the so-called political class is a joke, after he spent millions to buy the ILGOP and treated it like disliked and unwanted employees who should jump to the boss’ commands. The upshot of Rauner’s purchase: The state is far worse off than before him.

It’d be a shame if someone with deep pockets and a grudge funded her opponent during her inevitable comeback.

With Rauner gone, Ives becomes a possible future leader. Harold or a returning congressperson will need to be found to match her or ILGOP will have to wait until Illinois politics casts her as a second stringer.
It took four years to get rid of Rauner, Ives could hang around longer.

A thinking person has to wonder why no attempts have been made by Rauner to begin mending fences. His lack of awareness, and his arrogance will cost him as we go toward November. I have always been a Republican, but I have never been a Raunerite. He can’t get me to vote for him under any circumstance. Some may come back, but many will just sit this one out.

Impossible. The established political parties for this election were determined in 2014.
A political party which at the last general election for state and county offices, polled for its candidate for Governor more than 5% of the entire vote cast for Governor, is an “established political party” as to the state and as to any district or political subdivision thereof. If any of the other statewide candidates of such political party polled more than 5% of the entire vote cast for the office for which they were running, then such political party shall be an “established political party” in the state, but not as to any district or political subdivision within the
state. (10 ILCS 5/7-2, 10-2)

People have to remember that Rauner put himself in this position by signing the legislation that he signed that alienated the true conservatives. Rauner, not Ives, caused division in the party. So it’s not her job to reach out and mend fences. That can’t be mended anyway. Can he take back HB40?

Probably should have thought about that before she Oberweised herself right out of the gate. She’s not viable. Whatever future campaigns she will ever run will be overshadowed by that dumb commercial. Jim taped the blimp in what, 2002, and it still got brought up when he ran in 2014.
Even if people don’t care about commercial, the sour grapes are a really bad look. She’s effectively campaigning for JB.

MrJM, also, here’s a useful explainer of IL election law, which clearly shows three categories of possible candidates–established party, independent, and new party: https://ballotpedia.org/Ballot_access_requirements_for_political_candidates_in_Illinois#cite_note-3. My question is what’s stopping Ives from forming a new party and running as such?

Bruce Rauner isn’t going to apologize. He’s going to run Madigan ads nothing more nothing less. He’ll let the chips fall where they may. Pat Brady said right after the election- the Dan profit’s and Jeanne Ives are bad for the party.
Bruce and his folks don’t want the Ives, McSweeney’s, Morrison’s, McCarter’s etc. in the Rauner Republican Party.
They bash Trump, they lied and tried to destroy Jeanne, they installed a yes man for their leader (3 times in a row), they vote against party platform how much more are real Republicans supposed to take?

further argument in support of Ives running as a “new party” candidate
“independent” (10 ILCS 5/10-3) is clearly a distinct category from “new party” (10 ILCS 5/10-2) both of which are distinct from “established party” (10 ILCS 5/7-2)
the sore loser law prohibits Ives from running as another “established party” candidate; it also prohibits her from running as an independent candidate; it does NOT prohibit her from establishing a new party (on petition of at least 25,000 signatures submitted 134-141 days before the general) and running under that party’s label

Ron - She might have, but we’ll never know. But to say she’s a wacky ultra right wing conservative is just plain uneducated and wrong. Everyone I know supported her. We are educated suburban working families, Catholic, pro-life. My guess is the person who made that comment is a democrat, so I expect that of them, but when people in the Republican party also are insulting Ives voters in that way, it’s frustrating. And it’s absolutely the wrong way to woo the Ives voters. As I read in the comments somewhere today, Rauner needs us, not the other way around. So for his people (Pat Brady comes to mind) to go around saying we’re crazy, it’s clear they don’t really want our support.

You might want to read what the Pope said in today’s (April 9) apostolic exhortation titled “Gaudete et Exsultate,” or “Rejoice and Be Glad”:
“We often hear it said that, with respect to relativism and the flaws of our present world, the situaion of migrants, for example, is a lesser issue. Some Catholics consider it a secondary issue compared to the ‘grave’ bioethical questions.”
“That a politician looking for votes might say such a thing is understandable, but not a Christian,” he continued, adding that welcoming the stranger at the door was fundamental to the faith. “This is not a notion invented by some Pope, or a momentary fad.”
