[Madigan spokesman Steve Brown] noted the governor didn’t list improvements to the Quincy Veterans Home as one of the things he wants to focus on: “It appears it has quickly fallen as a priority.”
Maybe the $265 million project falls under a capital plan, but I doubt he can get that done, either.

What?! No Ask for a $5 billion tax increase for those Managed Care Organization contracts that were suppose to save $300 million?
I am guessing we aren’t going to have a budget this year. More hot gas from Governaut Biker boy, billions in hot checks and another credit downgrade.

Meh.
I just read it as…
As far as importance goes, the Quincy Veterans Home, the 13 deaths and numerous continued illnesses… ranks 7th.
Now it doesn’t sound as bad.
Note: I’m not being flippant. I’m angered and frustrated that the politics of Rauner and governing within it still doesn’t Warrenville the Governor’s attention.
So I’m crystal clear.

The poor man can’t even roll out his 5 point plan without looking foolish. See what happens when he wears a tie? It cuts off the blood flow to his head.
Those are nice ideas though. Wonder what has changed that he thinks he can get any of them done in the next 5+ months when he has failed to do so for the last 3 years.
What about selling the JRTC? (Or is he saving that for a nice boost in October?)

Let’s just see if we can stick with that “number one first priority”, without holding any of the other things as hostages or as non-negotiatiable demands.
The would be a major turnaround from previous years’ failed tactics.

If by chance working groups from both parties zero in on these 5 priorities that the Governor has laid out and get close to an agreement I can guess what will happen next. The Governor will then drop a couple of these priorities then add a couple of new ones. That is what I saw him do repeatedly during the 2 year impasse. It really is nearly impossible to make any significant progress when you have a Governor that not only is distrusted by Democrats but by members of his own party too.
The last 3 years the Governor has demonstrated repeatedly that the people of Illinois are not a priority. It’s all about scoring political points with the voters and blaming Democrats for lack of progress from now until November.
The Governor has read the polling numbers and realizes that his only shot is that he has to convince a lot of voters that a Democratic Governor is an even worse option than he is. A tall task for sure.

The update makes clear that this is more wish list than goals. If we’ve already reached agrewment, even if the ink isn’t dry, we’re moving on to other battles. Because who has time for the hard work or details? And if it fails, it must be someome else’s fault.

You’ve got to be kidding me. That’s not even snark - it’s just stupid. Your guy offered his top five priority list. He even got a bonus sixth. And yet he still couldn’t remember Quincy, demonstrating again the lack of importance he places on the issue. Don’t use that to lash out. Just fix it.

Edge again, ugh. The program has kept hundreds of millions of dollars out of the Willard Ice building. It’s pinstripe patronage that has never once been independently audited. Like the 50million to Rivian, a car company that has never made a single car. Total scam. Yet we forgave 50 million in tax money owed to the state. Edge is the gaping hole in our coffers

Is Rauner’s “balanced budget that lives within our means” include or not include the tax increase. Seems to me if his budget includes the increase it’s a Rauner Tax.
