The campaign worker who sued Madigan’s political operations is expanding the case where she alleged her career got sidelined when she accused a Madigan lieutenant for sexual harassment.
Alaina Hampton has added Madigan-controlled 13th Ward and Democratic Majority political funds as defendants to her federal lawsuit, according to a Hampton statement. She had originally sued Madigan’s campaign fund and the state Democratic Party.
“I will continue to seek ways to hold the defendants accountable for the sustained sexual harassment I experienced, because no one should be forced to quit her job because she is unsafe in her workplace,” Hampton said in the statement released Monday night.
Hampton, who first told the Tribune of receiving inappropriate texts from former Madigan aide Kevin Quinn, contended in the original lawsuit her effort to stop his unwanted advances effectively prevented her from getting further work on Democratic campaigns.

The campaign worker who filed a federal lawsuit against House Speaker Michael Madigan’s political operation is now asking City Hall watchdogs to look into Chicago Alderman Marty Quinn, the brother of the ousted political operative she accused of sexual harassment.
Alaina Hampton sent a letter Wednesday to Joseph Ferguson, the city’s inspector general, and Steve Berlin, executive director of the city’s ethics board, accusing the 13th Ward alderman of failing to take appropriate actions when she reported harassing texts of his brother, Kevin Quinn.
Hampton wants city officials to review whether Ald. Quinn failed to comply with ethics and employment rules.

Lisa Madigan’s decision to retire is looking prescient. Not that it had anything to do with her actions, but it would have been an uncomfortable subject to deal with on the campaign trail. She still has potential for a future campaign.

This is how you proceed with a strong irrefutable case. Far better ground breaking case than the previous one. This lady did everything right. She should never have had to endure this. It’s not going away quietly or otherwise.

Glad she is seeking justice, as an added benefit it could finally signal the end of his machine. MJM’s State seat and Ward position are lifetime appointment due to decades of patronage. The only way to take him down is though the Federal Courts.

I must be old or out of touch. I just don’t see the need for her to sue everybody and their brother. Sue the person who did it. Sue the person you went to that didn’t reprimand him. The brother got him to stop. You told them you didn’t want him fired. I’m also not seeing why someone should be forced to hire her as that seems to me to be her desired outcome.

So if you quit because you are feeling harassed, why would you want another job with that organization? Quinn was still working there and could have been her supervisor again if she did get her job back. I don’t get the logic in her argument.

Does Ferguson really have jurisdiction over campaign staff? I’d be surprised. It’s not a bad idea, but it may not be the law.

Remember when people were up in arms about (mischaracterized) comments relayed to Rodney Davis by some of his female staffers? Their concern was that women might suffer discrimination in hiring for campaigns and statehouse jobs (especially pretty, young ones) if men in power begin to feel like they are the focus of continual “witch hunts.”
Well, Alaina’s claims seems legitimate and Kevin Quinn appears to be a complete creep in clear violation of ethical practices. However, the concern that aspirant female staffers may suffer (given current political power structures) is warranted.
That said, I hope that women interested in political careers don’t find themselves passed over for jobs because men in power are afraid to be accused of harassment! Still, the culture of entitlement to the adoration of your pretty, young female subordinates needs to change. As does women thinking that they need to comply with this culture in order to be recognized and valued for their contributions.

Her logic is to be treated like a person, not a piece of meat. She won campaigns, which means hard work, long hours and no life. And now SHE’S in the wrong because she’s trying to change the culture? Yeah, she’s awful…
Funny, it’s a culture you all claim to hate until someone’s called on the carpet. What Alaina is doing is beyond brave. And doing something this courageous isn’t just about $$$.

Its not surprise she amended the complaint. The original complaint even said this was coming. This is nothing more than a legal move to cleanup the original complaint. Rather than everyone litigating this case on this blog every time there is a new development, lets allow the lawyers handle it in the courtroom.
