* Gov. Rauner was asked yesterday by Bernie Schoenburg about recent allegations made by Sen. Sam McCann regarding the 2015 AFSCME arbitration bill vote…
He said Rauner suggested he skip the vote if he wouldn’t vote no, but made it clear that there was “one way to make him angry,” which would be a “yes” vote.
“And he looked at me, and said, ‘I’ll destroy you and your family if you go through with this,’” McCann said.
“No, I did not say that,” Rauner told Bernie with a laugh. Schoenburg asked if McCann was lying. “There’s a lot of wild stuff goes on in politics, I’ll say that,” Rauner replied.
Dahl: Speaking of that. House Bill 40, Ives and Madigan are together and Swedish grandparents. I mean, you’ve got a reputation for not telling the truth. [Rauner laughs.] How can people cast a vote for you with all that stacked up against you?
Rauner: I’ve fought hard for the people of Illinois to create a better future. We need to grow more jobs, we need to bring down our property taxes, we need integrity in government with term limits. I’m fightin’ for the people and a better future for our people and our children and grandchildren…
Dahl: But what about being a man of your word? You’re taking on water there.
Rauner: People know that I’m a fighter on principles that will make us a better future. Lower taxes, more jobs and integrity in government through term limits.

Rauner wants Independents, Democrats, even Republicans “tired of the status quo”
In reality, having no constituency and dodging Trump is far better than being “Trump’s favorite” anything.

Dems are letting Rauner form the campaign of JB being Madigan’s handpicked candidate… JB offers a weak response to Rauner on the national guard issue telling Rauner to stand up to Trump. Labeling Rauner as Trumps fav would do a lot more damage and not be as dull as saying stand up to Trump.

I also realize Rauner can’t get his act together right now.
It’s best to let your opponent in the short term twist in the wind on their own.

It just doesn’t matter what either campaign does. It’s math. Rauner cannot win because of Trump’s victory in 2016, which has caused a surge of Democratic interest. Every other factor (Democratic intransigence causing a budget crisis and causing even the popular elements of the Turnaround Agenda to die off; demographics evolving in this country in a way that will continue to favor liberal voting; Rauner’s inability or unwillingness to pursue a consistent path and to take small victories where available) all militate a massive Democratic victory this November.
Analyzing the campaign in any detail is like shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic, which is a particularly apt analogy because both parties generally support policies ensuring the state’s long-term crash and ruin.

I wish Rep’s Raymond Poe, Rich Brauer and Wayne Rosenthal were in a position to be honest at no expense to themselves: did they have to choose between the glue factory or greener pastures? Was the governor afraid they would represent their “union” constituency?
I believe the real answer to this would lend credibility to McCann’s claims.
The governor wants Governor’s representatives, not State representatives. This…This…is a subversion of the democratic process.

I find it very insulting - this abasement of the language doesn’t show respect for the voters you think you’re courting (I’m not sure who exactly he’s courting these days), it’s just embarrassing.
Also, “I ain’t not leaving Illinois”, syntactically, is a double negative - therefore, an affirmative = “I’m leaving Illinois.”

Trump on his own is under water in Illinois, but polling better than Rauner, with a different set of base voters, voters that Trump may have, but Rauner may not.
Addition is what Rauner needs.
Ives is purposely trying to “Kirk” Rauner, as was the long play goal.
Rauner, as a caricature phony, who can be less than truthful, signed HB40, vetoed a “gun bill”, signed criminal justice reform and has yet to sign a full fiscal year budget…
… let it all twist in April.

Since we both (I dunno really about you, but I definitely know for a fact I …definitely don’t) have polls, publicly seen or discussed polls, and with Munger down 8 with 19% undecided, the silence in both camps right now makes me want to think had both sprinted away beyond what a POTUS universe could define, there might be a leak or three.
This might, now, mirror Frerichs-Cross in statewide closeness, and if that is my thought on this, then I have to then base that that on a perceived closing of that 8 point gap, which I thought would happen with Munger swamping Mendoza in Ads.
If Munger loses, if she does, given all these parameters now, the weeks and weeks and weeks of holding back dollars instead of building up a stronger name ID could be seen as a mitigating factor.
Mendoza, even in that poll, was underperforming both Duckworth and Clinton. That has been a challenge, maybe, in all this too?

If Rauner needs a character witness on the lying stuff, I imagine Gov. Greitens would be willing to cut another spot for him.
The price might be higher than $100K now, as Greitens has some serious lawyering bills to pay. On the bright side, Greitens likely will have a lot of time on his hands in the very near future, so availability won’t be a problem (until the trial, anyway).

Even among his fellow Republicans, just 63 percent say they approve of Greitens’ job performance, while 20 percent disapprove and 17 don’t know. Those are dismal numbers in hyperpartisan times, with incumbents typically able to count on in-party approval rates of 80 percent or more.
