How did Ives spend her money?

* Hmm…

* I took a quick look at her expenditures and found a few interesting items. For instance, that book her campaign published and mailed to voters about Gov. Rauner cost her $385,680 via Jameson Books Inc., which is based in Ottawa.

Ives spent $2,748,284.85 on advertising, including $64,660 to run spots on the Illinois News Network, which used to be run by the Illinois Policy Institute. She reported spending $257K on media production and just $3,759.65 on polls.

Her spokesperson Kathleen Murphy was paid a mere $1,000, which is really odd. Pundit and PR person Dennis Byrne was paid $20,000 for contractual services.

Locality Labs, which is owned by Dan Proft ally Brian Timpone, was paid $37,908 for a website, newspaper advertising and contractual work. Timpone’s Newsinator LLC was paid $750.

Trump Tower got $1,294 for lodging and an event, while Uline Ship was paid $352.68.

And, finally, a company called Union Signs and Printing received $4,200 for yard signs out of a total of $35K spent on the signs.

A look at her in-kind contributions show Proft’s Illinois Opportunity Project paid for a plane ride the day before the election.

Did she officially work for another organization at the time who was supporting the campaign?

Then it should be reported as an in-kind and it wasn’t.

Ridiculous waste of money in a close race. Must be a crony of Proft’s getting a taste. I wonder if has a piece?

The website at Jameson Books claims “15 million copies in print” but lists only two books for sale, both by some dude from the “American Spectator” named Arnold Steinberg.

His most recent article at that rag carries the headline: “War Could Break Out in the Mideast.”

Didn’t see that coming. Thanks for the heads up, chief.

$3,000, dating back to Dec 2017. Not sure that makes it better.

I’d really like to get my hands on a copy of this one. Hopefully it is a hard cover, nicely bound book that is nice and heavy.

Because if I ever work for a candidate dumb enough to spend money on something like that, I’d like to use Ives’s book to hit them in the head until they return to their senses.

And also to keep my door open.

    Oh come now…

That was a negative ad, negative I’m telling ya, designed to highlight such terrible things in a GOP primary as conservative values, law and order fierceness, and done with nice pictures, color pictures, and big font to hit it all home.

    It was a negative ad.

So you’re trying to say spending nearly 400k on that dumb book was money better spent that 400k of ads and gotv would’ve been? Wow.

  10. Don’t underestimate the power of that book. I work on the west side of Chicago - the white subueban guy among a group primarily made up of urban African Americans. Back in March, two of those books showed up on the table in the trailer at work. I’d bet a couple of paychecks that there wasn’t an Ives voter in there and that none of my coworkers were on her mailing list either. I’d bet these books start popping up again in late October - perhaps to motivate the Dem base in high minority urban areas and perhaps not. Makes a good bludgeon against Rauner - doesn’t matter who put them out there. They are there.

It was a pretty small paperback so not really swatting material. But I think we have several BOXES of these at the Lake County GOP headquarters that were dropped off by the Ives campaign and went untaken, so feel free to call the office and ask for a complimentary copy.

  13. Who did the media buys? 12% or so going rate. So Proft Inc, walks out with half million. And FYI. Profits relationship with Ms Murphy explains that one. And the $400 g spent on the book would have wine it for her. Worst political team in America

  14. I got the book and it was passed around to a lot of people so maybe the book was more effective than you think.

  16. $2.4 mil on ads…so Proft got his 10-15% and shared some with Murphy.
