Dorothy Brown to join long line of candidates running for mayor

Posted in:

* Perhaps the headline should read: “Brown has astounding lack of self awareness”…

There may be 10 to 12 candidates running, and now add @CourtClerkBrown to the list #ChiMayor19 pic.twitter.com/mJ1lKBC9jk

She's got barely $4K in her campaign fund, the G is all in her business and she lost in a landslide in her 2007 bid for mayor.

So Dorothy Brown is running for mayor again in 2019, of course.

One employee told federal investigators that the “going rate” to buy a job in Brown’s office was $10,000, to be paid to her personal bagman. Brown has repeatedly denied wrongdoing and has not been charged despite a nearly 5 year investigation: https://t.co/5CxjhgQ008

How does Brown expect to run for mayor while navigating an ongoing federal investigation? “I’m going to hold off on saying anything about that,” Andrews-Keenan said. “She wants to address that all at once in front of everyone on Sunday. She’s going to lay everything out then.”

  1. Nothing says turn the heat up to the Feds like announcing a mayoral bid.

  2. This is the kind of thing downstate people think of when someone says “Chicago”.

  3. Well, she does need a plausible reason to solicit money from people..

  6. I don’t think she’ll be mayor but all the fed investigation stuff was known when she ran in 2016 and she still won rather handily. That said, she won’t have Burke and Madigan’s support in this race

  7. she had such promise. just another one of the bad apple bunch.

  9. Gonna be blue jeans days at City Hall. Cool.

  10. As TominChicago notes, people criticize Madigan for all kinds of things that aren’t his fault, but he doesn’t get near enough criticism for something he’s legitimately guilty of, which is aiding and abetting Dorothy Brown all these years.

  11. I wonder if the campaign workers will be allowed to wear jeans.

  18. think of all the $10,000 payments she would make if Mayor, why not gamble her $4,000 war chest? low odds but huuuuuuuge payoff if she beats the odds….. only in Chicago.

    Comment by 44th Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 12:51 pm

  19. Agree with the earlier comment that if anything this will push the Feds into overdrive. Public officials under the heat lamp going away is one thing, sticking around and seeing higher office is another.

  20. You know when people type LOL, meaning “laugh out loud”? I never do that. But when I do see this particular headline pop up on my phone as breaking news, I literally do laugh out loud.

Comment by Ben Gazzara Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 1:52 pm

  21. Is she a stalking horse? Rahm would sure love to add more choices for ‘anyone but Rahm’ voters.

Comment by Quizzical Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 3:12 pm

  22. I have no words….

What does she gain from running for Mayor while under investigation?

Comment by JakeCP Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 3:39 pm

  23. She is just running so she can get a pay-out to drop out.

Comment by Just Me Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 3:56 pm

  24. Will her campaign slogan be “40 vacant lots and a goat” or some such variation?

Comment by Anonymous Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 4:11 pm

  25. All these candidates are running as a conspiracy to dilute any meaningful opposition to Rahm. The machine is at work. Love the paranoia.

Comment by NeverPoliticallyCorrect Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 4:27 pm

  26. Rahm’s unpopular enough to come in third. Wouldn’t that be something?

    Comment by a drop in Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 5:24 pm

  27. Rham vs. Dorothy. Tough choice but I think I might go for Dorothy. While she is not the poster child for good government - - she is not Rham.
Hope I have a better choice. If she makes the run off and Rham does not make the run off then I will vote for- - — anybody but Dorothy.

Comment by Back to the Future Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 5:29 pm

  28. @a drop in

I agree with this sentiment. Rahm is hated outside of tech circles and Lincoln Park.

The cynic in me could also see her being a stalking horse to help take out the anti-Rahm black vote.

    Comment by Anon35 Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 5:47 pm

  29. ==Rahm would sure love to add more choices for ‘anyone but Rahm’ voters.==

No, that’s not how this election works. Every vote he doesn’t get puts him closer to a runoff election.

  30. In other news, a bronze statue of Marion Barry was unveiled on March 3rd in the nation’s Capitol.

Dorothy obviously believes in the power of forgiveness and short memories.
