A pal of mine texted me a link to the Madigan video which was also posted on the Illinois Policy Institute’s Facebook page and added…

IPI so confident they’ve turned madigan into a ghoul they’ll post video of madigan promoting a progressive tax/attacking rauner knowing it’ll turn people off to the idea

Likely so.

* On to the next new video: Episode 1 of “Brewskis With Bruce”

…Adding… The Rauner campaign just sent this…

Rich,

Have you ever wondered what Governor Rauner does to relax and have fun?

Well here’s your chance to find out with our very first Brewskis with Bruce video!

Bruce loves catching up (and grabbing some beers) with folks around the state, listening to their concerns and just enjoying good conversation — whether about the issues facing Illinois or his love of ice skating. We’re excited to feature the first of these stops in a new series, Brewskis with Bruce!

Check out the video here
Enjoy!

Political Director

  1. It’s going to be pretty hard for Gov. Junk to stand on a debate stage with another billionaire and argue why they should pay the same tax rate as their secretary.

  2. Who said the Chicago accent was dead?

MJM missed his cawling. He would have been great in the radio era.

  4. To the Rauner Ad…

    === - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, May 2, 18 @ 10:58 am

You would think, starting July, Rauner would try to run positive ads, sprinkled here and there, to try to rehabilitate himself.

Anything, even Diana Rauner speaking to how Bruce has empathy, and trying for a better Illinois… anything to seem less combative, more “likable”… to seem engaged… a positive message of Rauner, the man…===

This is a case of a “blind squirrel - nut” comment

I do have some really sweet footage with focus groups and “Bruce” talking “Dad’s Home State”… if they wavt the footage.

    —————————-

    Rauner needs to rehabilitate himself.

With a 26% approval, this type of web-thingy is not only needed, it would be malpractice not to do these.

  7. Props to the Speaker for doing a web video. At all. Welcome to 2006.

The Rauner video is his typical obsequious garbage. And way, way better than the Madigan one.

Comment by Reality Check Wednesday, May 2, 18 @ 4:13 pm

  8. Madigan should counter Rauner’s ad with ‘McIntoshes With Mike’.

    Comment by Cubs in '16 Wednesday, May 2, 18 @ 4:16 pm

  9. A lecture about fair taxes from Speaker Madigan?

Aren’t the clients of Madigan and Getzendanner almost exclusively “millionaires and billionaires”

When 7 figure a year Mike Madigan states that he is against property tax reform, what he really means he wants to help himself and all of his billionaire and millionaire friends.

I can see why he keeps a low profile, this isn’t a good issue for him

  10. ===Madigan should counter Rauner’s ad with ‘McIntoshes With Mike’.===

    Well played, - Cubs in ‘16 -

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, May 2, 18 @ 4:21 pm

  11. When I saw Rauner at the State Fair for Veterans Day a few years ago, he didn’t seem particularly interested in talking with anyone, just shaking hands.

I have heard Rauner hangs out at the bars in Springfield. But since I have a real job, I don’t spend any time at those bars myself.

    Comment by A Jack Wednesday, May 2, 18 @ 4:22 pm

  12. The Rauner video comes off a lot better. Madigan would be better suited to radio as previously mentioned. Rauner is smooth and disingenuous. You had to laugh at the comment stating that he likes to ride his motorcycle with his Union buddies. A lot of folks bought his act in 2014 but now he has a dismal record to look at. It will take more than this, a lot more.

Comment by The Dude Abides Wednesday, May 2, 18 @ 4:26 pm

  13. The Guv wasn’t droppin’ his g’s with this crowd.

I loved the bit about raking leaves and cutting grass to save up for his first motorcycle at 14. That is good. Very relatable. Probably phoney baloney. But nice and relatable.

Comment by Henry Francis Wednesday, May 2, 18 @ 4:26 pm

  14. Brewskis with Bruce

    That makes my skin crawl.

    Comment by Cheryl44 Wednesday, May 2, 18 @ 4:26 pm

  28. Yes we remember how he had the $18 watch to supposedly relate to common people. Now its this.

Sadly, he could give a rats u know what about the average people who were hurt by his failed time as governor.

Comment by low level Wednesday, May 2, 18 @ 6:28 pm

  29. They picked the worst time ever to finally go for the progressive tax.

With the state and local tax being capped starting next year (and the IRS likely to ban state work arounds) higher income people in Illinois are going to get hit with a big hike.

Throwing in a big state tax hike on top of that when we are already a top 5 tax state seems like a Kamikaze mission as people are going to be mad about their increased tax bill as it is.

The change in federal law is going to put a serious crimp in the progressive tax plan, and is just a case of terrible timing.

Comment by Anon Wednesday, May 2, 18 @ 6:42 pm

  30. Madigan is right not to spend much time in front of the cameras. Not very effective.

    Rauner was trying too hard.

Neither one cares about anyone but themselves. Thankfully we have the tax dodging JB to lead us out of the desert. When does his next video come out?

  34. “Proper Upkeep for Carhartts”
Buy new jacket when old one falls off body because it is so worn and tattered that patches no longer hold together.

  35. “If they’re serving Yuengling…”

Do they have to drink it while in dame room as 1.4%? Why spoil taste of good beer?

Comment by Huh? Wednesday, May 2, 18 @ 6:58 pm

  36. “Proper Upkeep for Carhartts”
Worn cuffs, holes, stains, patches are badges of honor for those who wear carhartts for work. Something 1.4% doesn’t understand.

Comment by Huh? Wednesday, May 2, 18 @ 7:02 pm

It’s inching its way here. They have it in Indiana but they are distributing in Illinois yet. I can’t believe even Bruce, who loves Indiana would bootleg some to bring back here

Lot’s of humor on the blog today, but the “proof of life” line was really spot on.

  45. “Brewskis with Bruce”
You mean the guy who said he never had a “brewski”, (Polish beer), until last week?

Who - who - would be foolish enough to think such an event name should be uttered by anyone over the age of 21?

    Juvenile and embarrassingly frat-level unprofessional.

Comment by VanillaMan Thursday, May 3, 18 @ 8:52 am

  46. Even though their approval ratings are both in toilet at least Rainer appears with real people

Madigan doing it by himself not a good look. He continues to say he thinks he is doing a good job but does he actually ask anyone outside of his little world of minions what they think. He continues to believe he is bigger than the entire process.

We would benefit if both men move on after this year but have a feeling only one of,them is moving on

Comment by Etown Thursday, May 3, 18 @ 9:00 am

  47. ==Have you ever wondered what Governor Rauner does to relax and have fun?==

No - because I haven’t see him do anything that would necessitate relaxing afterwards. Besides, he told us that his wife said he never looked so happy.

Comment by VanillaMan Thursday, May 3, 18 @ 9:01 am

  48. Madigan looks like a man trapped in an elevator explaining to the emergency operator why he was using the elevator to get to the second floor.

Comment by VanillaMan Thursday, May 3, 18 @ 9:04 am

  49. Neither leader is relaxing me with these painful attempts to communicate.

I don’t want either of them to be my friend. I wouldn’t have brewskis with Bruce, and I don’t want oatmeal with Michael.
