JB Pritzker’s Graduated Income Tax Hike Would Crush Small Businesses

During Small Business Week, we recognize how important they are to Illinois. There are 1.2 million small businesses in Illinois, and they make up 98.2% of all businesses in the state. They employ more than 2.4 million Illinoisans representing 46.4% of the workforce.

Most small businesses are subject to individual income taxes, and they would be hit hard by JB Pritzker’s graduated income tax hike. Pritzker talks about taxing the wealthy, but the reality is that his tax hike will devastate the vast majority of small businesses and their employees.

“JB Pritzker is so out-of-touch that he’s pushing a tax hike on small businesses while dodging his own taxes by hiding money offshore and ripping toilets out of his mansion. You can’t trust Pritzker when it comes to taxes; he’s a tax cheat pushing tax hikes.” - Alex Browning, Rauner campaign spokesman

Lie of the Week: Rauner Administration Repeatedly Lied About Cost of Quincy Veterans’ Home Fixes

Chicago, IL – Today, the Pritzker campaign continues their weekly series holding Bruce Rauner accountable for his frequent lies. With over 70% of Rauner’s 18 fact checks rated “half true” or worse, the truth is clear: Bruce Rauner is a liar.

The Quincy Veterans’ Home crisis killed 13 and infected dozens, but despite the threat to our state’s heroes Bruce Rauner and his administration repeatedly lied about potential fixes. In 2016, a hidden Rauner administration report estimated the cost of fixing the plumbing at $8 million, only for the administration to later claim that the cost could be anywhere from $30 million to $500 million. Rauner’s administration repeatedly misled lawmakers and the public in a desperate attempt to avoid taking responsibility for the ongoing crisis in Quincy.

“Bruce Rauner released a plan for the Quincy Veterans’ Home after three years of lies and mismanagement,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh. “Our heroes and their loved ones have no reason to believe this failed governor who refuses to take responsibility for his constant crises.”

  2. It’s amazing that GOPers can see the future and know not only what the brackets would be but the exact impact it would have on small (or “small” in some cases) it would have.

Yesterday Rauner dismissed the concerns of small pharmacy owners that they’re being pushed out of business by his changes to Medicaid funding. Is he concerned or is he not? I’m confused.

Jefferies claim that replacing the plumbing at Quincy could cost “$500 million or more” was an all-time loony lie. I don’t know if Rauner himself could have done better.

== Yesterday Rauner dismissed the concerns of small pharmacy owners that they’re being pushed out of business by his changes to Medicaid funding. ==

    Don’t be confused.

Unless you’re a wealthy small business owner Rauner could care less whether you succeed or fail. If you are a wealthy small business owner then you need a tax cut.

    Totally consistent.

  6. They can discuss the progressive tax. It will be debated over and over again. It will have to be a gain for the middle class or it goes nowhere. Rauner can’t undo the deaths and sickness at the Quincy facility. Pritzker’s crew needs to hit this everyday till November. Everyone is a veteran, or has some in their families. No one can condone what has happened, and the poor handling of the situation.

  7. Rauner will use the 32% tax increase if he hopes to sign a balanced budget.

Rauner was governor when the Quincy Veterans Home had the outbreaks, and have emails looking to blame a disabled veteran who left her position in state government years before.

Rauner needs to get “healthier” by being more of a choice. Pritzker is already under water.

The real difference is Rauner’s attack is trying the lesser of two evils… Pritzker is showing actual failure of the Administration.

  8. The mismanagement, ongoing problems and “lies” about the Quincy Veterans Home will not, can not and should not go away.

And no amount of attempted public relations deflection can change those facts.

As Willy correctly reminds us “Governors Own” everything that happens on his watch.

  9. Perhaps a tweak on the old W era slogan is in order:

    People died. Rauner lied.

  10. @HG

I’m not actually confused by Rauner’s perfidy. It was snark and you stated my point perfectly.

As opposed to salt of the earth Bruce.

  12. I have to ask. Is what Rauner released a plan or a proposal? To me this early in the day (been up way too long), there is a difference and not just semantics.

  13. I don’t give Rauner much of a chance, but as long as JB stays quiet on what his tax plan is, Rauner will be able to say that JB is a tax dodger who wants you to pay more. Rauner doesn’t have much else to say, but that message will resonate with a lot of weary taxpayers.

  14. GOPies love status quo on taxes cause GovJunk gets about $5 million more to spend on rental payments to them.

Anyone heard from Nick A lately? National media thinkin’ he might be jammed up on the MO Gov scandal. Thanks GovJunk.

  16. It’ll be fun in the 2030 election when Illinois’s finances are even worse and an incumbent billionaire Republican (after two terms of Pritzker) and upstart billionaire Democrat are slinging the same barbs at each other. Time is a flat circle.

  17. “The progressive tax will have to be a gain for the middle class or it goes nowhere”

The progressive tax would benefit 98% of the taxpayers. A Win - Win!

  18. It will be fun in 2030 when we will get our food with spears, and heat our homes with fire, after 8 years of Trump.
