Question of the day

Posted in:

* The live coverage post attracts a huge number of Statehouse eyeballs on session days. I often put press releases and news items into that post which won’t fit anywhere else on the blog. But I get interesting press releases and read news items every day that aren’t a good fit for discussion here. So, I’m wondering what you think.

* The Question: Should we have a live coverage post every day? Take the poll and then explain your answer in comments, please.

  2. Yes. It’s a big help.

  3. My two thoughts for having it daily is 1) Election season will likely include daily news throughout the year, and 2) Chicago elections are kicking up, and we’ll likely see alignment with state politics.

With that being said, I don’t use the feed often (as I have Twitter access at work). But I can see how it would be important to others.

  4. Yes yes yes, it’s very very helpful. I enjoy scrolling through it. Many times I’ll find something interesting and burrow down on it. I would also think it an interesting gauge for you in the comments on the live post. An issue might gain traction that you can see from comments.

  5. Yes. Especially in this crazy election year.

  6. I voted no, because someone needed to be against it.

  7. Yes. I’d also move it to the right side of the screen where you can find it when you first get on the website instead of scrolling through blog posts we’ve already read. Just an idea. Your site though, do what you want.

  8. Voted “yes” - I always check out the feed, but have to admit if there is a particular topic that has generated heated or lengthy discussion I usually spend more time on those topics.

But I do find information on that feed that I never see elsewhere, and that is good and valuable.

I chose not to participate in social media, so I can and do gain some insights by this live coverage.

  9. Yes, it’s aways fun/interesting to see what the ebb and flow of the day is.

  10. Voted yes. More info is always better than less. There aren’t any outlets I can think of that we can access that kind of info.

  11. Voted Yes. Great to watch your twitter feed and the people/organizations you follow, as I don’t have my own and want to keep it that way.

  12. Yes, for many reasons already mentioned and because the live feed is a good format for the game of Dueling Press Releases.

  13. Yes. It is very helpful. I can then decide where I can dig deeper. Also, it has given me greater insight into the big picture of what is going on…

  14. Voted No, i guess i am not sure how it would be different from the current scribble live feed columns on the right.

  15. Eb and flow is interesting but doe not take the time to analyze the underlying information, facts and behind the scene reasoning. Would rather have Rich’s analysis and input.

    Comment by bear3 Friday, May 4, 18 @ 3:39 pm

  16. i voted no. there is something about the way it scrolls that screws up my ability to read posts below it. They get pushed down every time a new live feed item posts.

  17. After recent experience, I’m imagining who might freep this poll.

Comment by Anonymous Friday, May 4, 18 @ 3:49 pm

  18. Yes. The Twitter hashtag is getting a little overrun. This would be a great way to filter through some of the noise.

  19. Here’s where I am on this;

Would I like that? Of course, because I’d love to sift thru and see the work-product of others and the politics and governing being conveyed in releases and such.

Do I think I want to make Rich, who is already the blog of record for all things Illinois politics, think this addition is a burden I need outside of where this place stands? I’m in no position to suggest that kind of “addition” is needed.

    I voted “yes”

    “Why?”

Never stifle a creative mind to where that mind finds ways to bring that product to you better, it defeats the whole concept of growth.

So, Rich, would I like it, of course. Do I think the necessity of it is needed beyond a want? Not really.

    Thanks for asking.

  20. Sure.
