  4. I thought those chirpy comments about a utility deal were a bit optimistic.

    The problem is-without ongoing substantive rate relief, even a billion dollars over four or five years isn’t that much when spread over the customer base. $200 million a year over five years. What kind of a dent would that make in individual utility bills, especially since rebates supposedly will be targeted to the so-called poor and to all-electric households.

    One also has the uneasy feeling that our feckless legislators and their staffs (and the guv) don’t really know how much the utilities can pay out and stay in business with reasonable profits If they have some estimates, nobody is telling us, the consumers, how they got those numbers.

    Looks like we could be in the dark in more ways than one this summer.
