A little Friday snarkiness

Posted in:

* As I told you earlier today, Gov. Rauner was in DC today for a ceremony to officially announce a “major rail infrastructure grant for the 75th Street Corridor Improvement Project.” From the governor’s remarks

Rail freight drives so much of our goods, our products made in America, built in America, shippin’ around the world. It is driven by train. Illinois is the only state that has all seven Class One railroads in it. The only state. And they converge around metropolitan Chicagoland. And unfortunately, for decades metropolitan Chicago has been the number one bottleneck for freight rail traffic in America. For decades this has been a problem.

Secretary Elaine Chao and the Trump administration have driven the result to untangle that bottleneck and drive great efficiency for the rail system of America. Thank you, Madame Secretary and the Trump administration.

Make no mistake, this is a hugely important project. Everyone involved should be congratulated.

But didja notice he said the word “Trump”? He doesn’t do that too often.

* The Pritzker campaign had a little fun with it on National Best Friends Day

...Adding… Right back at him…

  6. ===This is the best that the two wealthiest campaigns in the country can afford?===

    What’s that great throwaway line… yes…

“It’s not the best they can do, it was what they did”

To that, and what this post is about and what campaigns can and should be about at times like this…

    … sometimes a throwaway joke, gag, “funny”… well…

“A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men”

It’s Friday. It’s June. It’s nothing to nothing, it’s smaller than small.

Rauner saying Trump, that’s “huge”, but it’s a fun tweak, as photoshops can be too.

Shortly, I’m going to make an Old Fashioned with some very outstanding bourbon I got in Louisville. I’m going to enjoy Friday. It’s June.

Sometimes… we all take ourselves far more seriously then the world would ever think of us.

  9. –Secretary Elaine Chao and the Trump administration have driven the result to untangle that bottleneck and drive great efficiency for the rail system of America–

That’s some garbled syntax. Cocktails with lunch?

  10. Sorry to be nit-picky but Rauner is mistaken. Only 6 of the 7 class 1 railroads are present in Chicago. Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Union Pacific, CSX, Norfolk Southern, Canadian National, and Canadian Pacific all come to Chicago. Kansas City Southern does not.

The 75th St project like the Englewood Flyover before ut does more to speed up Metra service (in this case Southwest Service) than it does to speed up freight service.
