Close, but no cigar

Posted in:

* Gov. Rauner and JB Pritzker both attended Equality Illinois’ Pride Parade reception on Sunday. A pal of mine was there and snapped these pics. If you look closely, you’ll see the governor is in the back of the room and Pritzker is near the camera…

* Rauner starts working the room in the direction of the camera…

* They get close…

* And then, according to my buddy, they walk right by each other without so much as a howdy-do…

That was a missed opportunity by both men.

  2. I guess the only time a Rauner will talk to a Pritzker is when The Ounce needs $5 million…

    If both men feel that being inclusive and being open to others matter… a handshake would’ve made a larger statement then the small pettiness of both men doing nothing at that moment.

    Disappointing on both.

  4. Is the Guv talking to anyone in any of the pictures? Granted, it’s just 6 snapshots but I don’t see anyone engaging with him.

  10. One’s a governor, and one’s one of America’s richest - but neither of them have as much class or coutesy as a beggar at a corner McDonalds.

    I’m voting for neither.

  19. Why didn’t Rauner walk in the parade? He did the Aurora one last weekend. So 2-faced.

  23. Clearly, neither one is much of a retail politician. Which would be fine if either knew how to lead. Rauner has demonstrated he doesn’t and Pritzker hasn’t demonstrated he can. OMG, what an election this will be.

  24. Takes a couple of these parades before you fully embrace the full man hug. Next year, I bet they run to each other.

    Comment by Kelly Cassidy Tuesday, Jun 26, 18 @ 9:50 am

  32. I’m with Jim on this one - what do we gain from them pretending not to hate each other? If you’re Pritzker, why shake hands with someone who told the press you’re a bad person? And if you’re Rauner, why give him the legitimacy of a handshake?

    I get the civility thing, and it’s important, but not here.
