Rauner extends DC trip

Posted in:

* He’s been there since Monday waiting on the US Supreme Court’s Janus decision…

Daily Public Schedule: Wednesday, June 27, 2018

Gov. Rauner continues his visit to Washington, D.C. on official business.

* Meanwhile…

Get this: as fate would have it, @GovRauner and Champaign's Mayor @DebFrankfeinen are both in Washington D.C. tonight. I'm hearing they are scheduled to meet tonight with some business/economy wonks. Will the mayor ask the Governor for a public apology?

* He’s also been doing some TV appearances…

  1. Wow. Crazy eyes.

    Watch out.

  2. It would be criminal not to have a campaign ad with Rauner of the footsteps of the SC announcing a victory. Political malpractice and I pray he doesn’t have a shaky camera filming it.

  3. If we could hold the Janus decision indefinitely it might solve a few problems.

Comment by The Captain Tuesday, Jun 26, 18 @ 5:12 pm

  4. –It would be criminal not to have a campaign ad with Rauner of the footsteps of the SC announcing a victory.–

That’s the “official business,” is it?

Actually, I’m pretty sure it is criminal to expend public funds for campaign purposes. You seem to think that’s what’s going on here.

  5. === - It would be criminal not to have a campaign ad with Rauner of the footsteps of the SC announcing a victory.–

That’s the “official business,” is it?===

    First thing I thought too.

If it’s about the politics, just have the campaign pay, since it would be political malpractice and commercials.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 26, 18 @ 5:20 pm

  6. If he paid the cameraman and everyone out of his campaign funds that wouldn’t be using public funds would it?
This is a case specifically about IL so he has an excuse to be out there and paying attention to it, and it is “completely coincidental” that it also makes for a good ad, lol.

Comment by Perrid Tuesday, Jun 26, 18 @ 5:21 pm

  7. –This is a case specifically about IL so he has an excuse to be out there a…–

Uh huh. I hear he skulks outside the Court of Claims for weeks on end, checking on cases impacting Illinois.

If he’s in DC for the press pop, his campaign should pay for it.

  8. Let’s hope they call for reargu, emt and he stays until the. Oh, Evelyn …. we need you.

  9. The Rauner Crew must really expect Janus to put a beating on Public Sector Unions, huh? If the SC rules otherwise (or punts, as RNUG suggests), BR is going to have a hard time sneaking out of DC un-noticed.

    Comment by Stuntman Bob's Brother Tuesday, Jun 26, 18 @ 5:32 pm

  10. All the waste in this state and we are going to nitpick a couple days in DC. My my, forest and trees gentleman. Forest and trees.

As stated previously, I want a steady camera and good editing. If the state needs to pay Pritzker or Rauner for that, then so be it.

  12. –All the waste in this state and we are going to nitpick a couple days in DC. My my, forest and trees gentleman. Forest and trees.–

What are you trying to say? It’s okay to do campaign work on the public dime because of “waste in the state?” How does that track, logically?

What do you mean, “forest and trees?” Is that supposed to mean something in this context, or is it just a nervous tic?

If you think Rauner’s motivation to be in DC is to do a campaign spot, why shouldn’t his campaign pay for it? Conversely, why would the state pay for a campaign trip?

I’m pretty sure there were lots of trees in the forests up by Yankton when they sent Scott Fawell up for using state resources for campaign purposes.

  15. @Word, if I may be so bold as to interpret what @Ole General is saying I would be glad to offer that service.

Translated: “I am a complete hypocrite, when it suits me it is fine to waste public dollars doing something that can be done at home in Illinois with out spending public dollars”

Three and a half years ago I learned to speak “hypocrite” by watching videos of Rauner and Trump.

  16. This is about union dues not a ken dunkin like celebration for Illinois

  18. ===He has always paid for travel out of his own pocket.===

That’s on me. I should know better.

Rauner will get his “day in the sun” tomorrow most likely.

What’s so sad is it will cost Bruce and Diana Rauner $112 million.

Expensive day in the sun, by any measure.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 26, 18 @ 6:34 pm

  19. Rauner will be… if he does lose…

    … or desires to be…

The governor that broke AFSCME… aka Af-Scammy

Rauner will be guest speaking everywhere, will be sought on panels and be courted by think tanks.

Don’t be short sided in your thinking.

Rauner is a colossal failure as a governor.

Rauner will be known nationally as the governor to take down public sector unions. That’s the ball game now. In reality, Rauner might be disengaged in process now, with all that he is trying to hone… getting blown out for re-elect only makes the legend he wants even “more”…

The $112 million has come down to a photo op, with Janus on the US Supreme Court steps, hopefully sunny for color photos, cloudy for the black and white photos. The most expensive photo op in history.

So, tomorrow is about the day, it is about winning the day, a day in the sun, and all the days after in the sun for the Martryr Bruce Rauner, the patron saint to union busting… or that’s how the releases, the interviews, the bios, everything after Janus… that’s the goal.

Like all mythology, truth is lost.

Rauner had no standing in Janus.

In reality, Rauner had no standing and was taken out, so it’s not even an “opinion” Rauner has standing, based on… well, opinion.

The mythology Rauner wants must have photos, the hand raised in locked finger victory with Janus… shot low, looking up at the myth, with the neoclassical Roman temple architecture…

It can’t be overstated how critically important these pictures and this mythology is born tomorrow.

It’s an expensive legacy, but Rauner needs the legacy and the mythology.

  20. Mountains out of molehills. The sad thing is that his greatest accomplishment as Governor, worth a campaign ad, might be as party to a lawsuit.

  22. Two questions:
    1. Did he drive the junker car from his 2014 campaign ads?
    2. Is he staying at the Trump Hotel?

Comment by Seymourkid Tuesday, Jun 26, 18 @ 11:51 pm

  23. ===He has always paid for travel out of his own pocket===

That’s good of him. Did any state employees travel with him and if so, did they take personal time and did the campaign or the state pay for airfare and accommodations?

I assume he has some staff with him. Probably campaign staff given the nature of this visit, but it’s worth checking out, isn’t it?

  26. Rauner is hunched up over in DC like an old buzzard waiting for the ambulence to pull away, leaving him a tasty carrion.

His eyes look like he’s driving the wrong way down a airport landing strip towards an exploding DC-10.

  27. He wants to dance on what he thinks will be the grave of unions. I think the effect of this ruling on public sector unions is way overblown and clouded by 1% wet dreams.

OW, it appears you are saying Rauner won his lawsuit. The civil servants of IL, pray that he loses this fight. Their health depends on it.

With the current U.S. Supreme Court, decisions based on law are now a trap-shoot.

If 10 to 20 % of members bolt the Union that will really hurt in terms of dues.

    Probably not.

If I’ve learned anything, the teachers’ strikes, for example, in West Virginia, Oklahoma, and Arizona show me public sector labor is doing well, thanks.

===With the current U.S. Supreme Court, decisions based on law are now a trap-shoot.===
