Is this thing on?

Posted in:

* I was a bit shocked at the number of bounce-back e-mails from subscribers who were out of the office this morning. Comments have been lagging all morning and, while I no longer track my site’s traffic, my ScribbleLive program indicates visitors are down by well more than a third.

I was wondering the other day what would happen this week because the 4th is on a Wednesday. I suppose lots of folks took Monday and Tuesday off. I was thinking about maybe taking off Wednesday, Thursday and maybe Friday. I still haven’t decided yet. But I do believe I’m gonna take it a bit easy today (unless something big breaks, of course).

Anyway, how are things looking at your office?

  1. Office? What’s an “office”? I’ve been retired for several years, so mine consists of the room where I have my computer. My cats don’t know the difference between holidays and any other day, as long as they’re fed.

I am enjoying the cooler weather, and a nice breeze off the lake, after several days of “extreme temperature” warnings.

Take some time off, Rich, you deserve a break.

  8. More of a repair shop than an office here, but pretty much full. Wife’s a state worker, says it’s empty where she’s at though.

  9. The north drive at the Capitol is as sparse as a downtown Springfield restaurant at night on a non-session day.

  10. I’m distracted today, but in a constructive way.

Lots of people today, for me, trying to tie up loose ends and heading out after tomorrow.

Or both ends! Traffic looked to be a little light. I just assumed some of the regulars slept in! lol

  13. Escape from the heat, from politics, from just about everything this week:) With the holiday in the middle of the week, it really messes with work. Take some time off, Rich. There’ll be plenty of politicking over the 4th to catch up on next week:)

  15. Let’s talk about GovJunk — friend of vets appeal. Maybe everyone is mourning your apparent agreement that big fair events went the way of the dial phones & deadwood papers.

  16. It’s an absolute riot/mayhem at the aid office.
We had a power outage last week
And we have several hundred people
    Applying for replacement food stamps.
I’m thinking calling my union sister
    At SW correctional
    We could use the gear.

  19. Rich,

The last time July 4th fell on Wednesday (2012), you had planned on taking at least through the holiday off. The only exceptions were 6/30/2012 posts regarding Gov. Quinn’s FY13 budget actions, and a 7/2/2012 post regarding a Derrick Smith hearing.

You returned on 7/9/2012 (the Monday after that year’s 4th): https://capitolfax.com/2012/07/09

And need we say more about the week of Wednesday, July 4th in 2007.

  20. Business as usual on my end but later in the week may be a different story.

Comment by frisbee Monday, Jul 2, 18 @ 11:42 am

  21. Thanks, Leatherneck. That was a fun look back.

Since I just took a vacation, I didn’t feel right about taking off this week. Always a lot to post about on Monday because of the backlog of late Friday/weekend news, but I’m thinking, barring any surprises, Tuesday through Friday are gonna be sssssllllllooooooowwwwwwwwwww.

  22. It’s business as usual in my small state office.

  23. Most of the buildings on the WIU Macomb campus lost power this morning. Most are back up, although the main administrative building is still down and has sent all employees that work there home for the day.

    So that’s fun 🙄

  24. Chicago city traffic was light and fast this morning. A full office here today though. But that’ll change Wed-Fri.

Dude, summer days are precious in this fakakta climate. Take ‘em when you can get ‘em.

  26. The retirement office was pretty slim today. The coffe club was down half its members. Looks like tomatos will be late as we await the next full moon. BLT’s w/o the T just mot the same. Since the garden is my summer office, I thought I would give a report.

  27. My office always looks like a ghost town now since so many have transferred out, retired or died.

Comment by Me Again Monday, Jul 2, 18 @ 1:52 pm

  28. Things are so slow here, I’m gonna take a nap.

Oh, did I mention I’m retired?

I can’t afford nine houses or a Gold Coast mansion, but it’s still a swell life.

  29. Two people I normally interact with are off this week, but other than that, a full roster at the office.

  30. Still working out of the office at home until the Minneapolis office is expanded. Last night was exciting when my desktop caught on fire, but the pace of my e-mails today is higher than normal largely because everyone is out starting tomorrow and Wednesday.

  33. Utter chaos. I have way too much work and not enough time. Hopefully other people will be out of the office this week (clients and opposing counsel) to allow me to get caught up.

This is the kid Don Cooper said had to stay in the bullpen because he was immature and that his arm was bound to fall off due to his freakish, violent contortions.

Kenny Williams said, “so what? He throws strikes that batters can’t hit. Put him back in the rotation until they can.”
