Rauner dodges the “Trump question”

Posted in:

* Gov. Bruce Rauner on Bill Cameron’s Connected to Chicago

Bill Cameron: Trump, do you want him to come to Illinois to come and campaign with you?

Rauner: I want every possible support I can. Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Conservatives, Liberals. This election is about the people of Illinois standing up to a corrupt political machine.

Bill Cameron: Maybe Trump at a downstate rally with you before it’s over?

Rauner: Um, you know I was just in Washington, at the White House, this week. I was meeting with Vice President Mike Pence, he’s a good friend of mine. I was there meeting with him to talk about many issues, particularly tariffs and trade. I’m deeply concerned. We do need to change some of the unfair trade deals. America has been taken advantage of by other countries, especially China, and we’ve lost American jobs as a result. So, we do need to change some of those trade deals. That said, trade wars, nobody’s a winner, and tariff wars are devastating. We can’t let a tariff war destroy manufacturing or farmers in Illinois. And I was there to talk about that.

Bill Cameron: What do you think of Trump so far?

Rauner: Well, I’ll say this. What’s, what the White House and the Congress have done to cut and reform our taxes has helped the American economy boom and I applaud them for that. What they’ve done to reduce regulatory burden on businesses around America has mostly, not entirely, but mostly been great and helped the American economy boom. And we’re creating good paying jobs and rising family incomes and I applaud them for that.

  1. Such a delicate dance. He’s giving the Mayor a run for his money on his dancing abilities.

But seriously, if he can’t disavow Trump it’s gonna hurt with suburban women. Particularly in light of this new SC fight.

  2. Reporters are going to have to start asking Rauner to give detailed instructions on how to play euchre if they are going to have any hope of getting to him say Trump.

    **** see four stories below****

How can he say this as he keeps hiring poloitically connected people to position. Look in the mirror, you have found the enemy and he is you.

  4. Since Rauner is the self described best at agricultural trade, and The Donald at tariffs, perhaps they could prance around in front of all the farmers and explain what these recent actions have done to the commodity markets.

One of those collectivists who believes positive “economic growth” comes from government central planning.

The tax cut was signed in December. There was actually a dip in growth in the first quarter of this year.

The tax cuts are going to double the U.S. government annual deficit. That’s some new economic thinking: Keynesian stimulus in a growth economy at full employment.

I kid. There was no economic planning behind it. The GOP donors just got a big score, when they could.

Just exercising their free speech, with their money.

  8. What a dummy. He ought go to Granite City. He ought go spend some time at the World Shooting Complex. But if he’s still chasing the elusive suburban independent woman vote. By all means. Keep straddling the fence. It is your specialty.

  9. Saying he’s friends with Mike Pence ought to hurt him with women voters.

  10. Trump fights mightily in politics, love him or hate him. Rauner is so afraid to take controversial stands. How can this be appealing to many conservatives, or even many others? Rauner won’t slam or praise Trump by name.

If McCann gets on the ballot, he can help with criticizing Rauner to Trump supporters and social conservatives.

  12. @Cheryl44: Follow up questions include, do you and your good friend Mike Pence duscuss abortion laws? Do you think your good friend Mike Pense should meet one on one with female staff members, without the presence of his wife?

  13. Mark Maxwell, this is what’s known as a dodge. Maybe if you recognized this, you’d be able to recognize the difference between a dodge and actually taking action on the Nazi.

  14. Not really a “dodge” causes everyone knows GovJunk mumbo jumbo. He does not really know Pence. He has paid Pence’s COS, Nick Ayers. So Gov. Junk probably thinks that counts as “knowin” ….and let’s us not ignore the famous Lyin’ Laugh” when ansewwerin’the question.

Only one of his statements listed above is completely true.
