  1. Jokes aside, this messaging is incredibly powerful among certain voters. Recall that in 2010 Bill Brady’s support of a pet euthanasia came into the main stream (it’s even on his Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Brady_(politician)#Animal_control). Now maybe killing household pets is not the same as poaching rhinos, but animal cruelty has a unique way of resonating with folks.

  2. I almost wouldn’t even take issue with it if Google and the rest of these companies would just straight up say “we’re gonna mine your profile and search history and sell it for gobs of money to people you would never approve the sale of information to” instead of implying and dancing around the issue.

  3. Checkmate.

  4. I think J.B. should target those of us who hate anonymous commenters on Capitol Fax.

“Bruce Rauner had four years to implement a mandatory nickname policy for Illinois’ leading political and government blog. He failed. J.B. will make sure you know who you’re calling an uninformed bot. It’s never OK to be anonymous, it makes it impossible to follow the conversation and ruins the spirit of community that is the backbone of Illinois political blogs. Vote Pritzker.”

  5. Pritzker should target anyone living in the City of Chicago by promising to reopen the Chicago emissions testing locations. It’s one of those things that affects all drivers in the state’s largest city and Rauner closed them out of spite forcing Chicago residents to drive out to the suburbs in order to complete a test that is mandatory in order to get your license plate stickers renewed.

  6. Rauner ad: Chiropractors are the backbone of Illinois.

Pritzker ad: Over half of Kaskaskia* residents announce support for JB Pritzker. Join them!

    *Population: 14.

  7. I was under the impression that the sale of Ivory has been illegal in all of the US for years, is it really an issue in Illinois now???

Comment by Small Town Boy Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 2:18 pm

  8. Rauner: Support the Arts, support Bruce Rauner. Gov. Rauner’s costume collection is one way Bruce has supported the arts while in office, so…

Pritzker: Support privacy, Support JB. JB Pritzker is opposed to anyone taping any conversation for any reason, even Siri and Google. If you want privacy and your voice safe from recordings, support JB.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 2:20 pm

  9. Pritzker ad: “Rauner has been beating the dead horse for three years now”. Protect the dead horses.

  10. Bruce Rauner had the chance to finally bring good Middle Eastern food to Springfield but he failed. JB knows that good felafel is green and will finally bring quality middle eastern food to Springfield. Vote Pritzker

  11. Rauner: Winner will receive one free dancing lesson! (Accompanying video: https://twitter.com/BruceRauner/status/1018617438102085632)

Pritzker: Winner will receive a pre-worn vest!

Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 2:30 pm

  12. Rauner ad: “If you say it slowly enough, Madigan sounds like “Mad Again”, let’s make Illinois happy again”.

    Comment by 360 Degree TurnAround Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 2:34 pm

  13. Pop-up ad on “Ask This Old House:”

When you need a little privacy to take care of business, don’t forget that an historic mansion’s back porch can be a cozy setting. Bruce Rauner knows. Bruce Rauner cares. And Bruce Rauner’s backdoor business dealings help him earn enough money to restore This Old Illinois House to its former glory.

Bruce Rauner. He’s no Norm Abrams and can’t hold a candle to Tommy Silva, but he’s a heck of lot better than Bob Vila.

    Comment by 47th Ward Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 2:35 pm

  14. @ Stark

They certainly do say just that in the terms of agreement — granted it’s written in legalese and every normal person just clicks “Agree” before you can blink an eye.

Comment by Zeep Bow Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 2:38 pm

  15. Rauner:
JB is anti-plumber’s union because he apparently prefers out-houses over indoor plumbing.

    Pritzker:
In undermining the environment, Bruce reveals he is anti-bumble bee because he bulldozed all the flowering landscape at the Governor’s Mansion.

  16. Bruce Rauner has a chance to stop Wordslinger’s histrionic hyperventilating. Tell Bruce Rauner to sign the “figure out who Wordslinger is” act today…

    Micro target = Vanilla Man

Comment by Saluki Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 2:46 pm

  17. Rauner in his attempt to be aligned with Oprah …

Look at me. Look how skinny I am that I cannot get pants that look like thy will stay on. And I spend $1,000 per pair and pay my taxes on them because I am not like that tax dodger running against me. You should also know that JB hates weight watchers and anyone who is losing weight …. especially Oprah.

    Comment by I Miss Bentohs Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 2:53 pm

  18. Support archery. 1.4% said he could take the arrows but spent his time running from responsibility and jumping to conclusions.

Comment by Huh? Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 2:53 pm

  19. Make 1.4% an honorary member of SAG for his ability to stay on script, and pretending to be a member of the workin’ class.

Comment by Huh? Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 2:58 pm

  20. Pritzker ad: He’s rich!
    Rauner ad: He’s richer!

    Draw your own conclusions, Illinoisans.

  21. Rauner: Because we can finally live in the mansion, Diana.

    (Micro-target of one.)

Comment by anon Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 3:49 pm

  22. Oh?
I’ll add that to my short list of things we don’t mention.

Comment by VanillaMan Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 3:55 pm

  23. Targeted to Streeterville and the Lincoln Park:

“Bruce Rauner gets his wine from his $150,000 wine club, run by Bill Harlan. By how are you going to obtain a few cases of the most Harlan Estates vintage for you cellar? Urge Bruce Rauner to sign legislation allowing retailers to ship directly to Illinois consumers.”

Comment by Gooner Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 4:14 pm

  24. 1.4% ran the Quincy Veterans home just like his nursing homes. Anyone see a pattern? With 1.4% failure is a priority.

Comment by Huh? Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 4:14 pm

  25. A new Hasbro app - “Who’s in charge “. Winners include Michael Madigan and numerous other people. Notable losers with the lowest ever score of 0 points include Governor 1.4%.

Comment by Huh? Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 5:56 pm

  26. New Hasbro app - “Where’s 1.4% on the campaign trail?” A modern version of “Where’s Waldo?”.

Comment by Huh? Tuesday, Jul 17, 18 @ 5:58 pm

  27. Yeah, this isn’t micro-targeting. It’s going to a large audience. It’s symbolic to many, not aimed to a slice of the electorate.

  28. Rauner is going after the piano playing group.
