Brendan Kelly’s campaign for Illinois’s 12th Congressional District today released its first television advertisement for broadcast, titled “Faith.”
In the ad, Brendan details his reasons for running. He affirms his commitment to overcoming divisions by rebuilding his home district and restoring faith in Southern Illinois. Brendan also restates his pledge to push for new leadership in BOTH parties.

These seem to be the big items in the news for the Democrat party. Would love to know his positions.

Not sure what to think of this, as I don’t know that area enough to know how folks will respond to the idea of a guy walking through a church for a political commercial. Hits me odd.
“I fought the pharmas because ‘they started the opioid epidemic’”
They certainly share plenty of blame, but “they started it”??? That’s a little heavy.
It may be an excellent ad depending on the territory, because the guy seems likable and decent. He’s a Dem, so displaying his faith so openly may intercept some R leaning support. But, the inside of a church is heavy to me. Too heavy. I’m actually a little surprised the church was ok with it.

The problem for the Dems in the 12th is that it is heavy on the conservative side these days. Radically shifted in the last five years

As A Guy said, I would be curious how well walking through church plays with folks in southern Illinois. It strikes me as a little too much. I get why he is doing it and think he is right to play up his Christian faith, but I am not sure this is the right tactic.

Southern Illinois is getting into the Bible Belt. This ad will probably play OK there.
It is a good ad for a D in a conservative district. Downstate pols have to be more middle of the road than radically left or right.

Have to admit it is a good ad. As BDD pointed out it is a conservative district, and not all of them are Republican. This could pull conservative and moderate Dems as well as independents.

It’s a solid “B”
It’s a nice intro, the way it’s shot is fine, the church probably speaks to that district better than trying to think if it does or doesn’t.
It’s a “B” to doing what needs to be done, simple and straightforward and trying to be a good indication of what people in the 12th want.

Only for those who choose to remain willfully ignorant of years of undisputed revelations in court cases and great journalism.
They invented it, aggressively marketed it and knowing lied about its abuse and highly addictive nature.
Maybe you want to check in with all those suburban Chicago GOP state’s attorneys and GOP state attorney generals around the country who are suing Big Pharma for just that.

You don’t have to be a conservative to be pro-life. I lean left on most issues but am also pro-life. I am not a conservative by any stretch of the imagination sand if it wasn’t for the Abortion issue would be considered left wing.

Wow. Seemingly as an afterthought he added on- screen print that states he won’t support Nancy Pelosi for leader but did not say so out loud so people listening only (not viewing) will miss that.
I give it a B. He seems smart and nice and like he is more in tune with his district than some Dem challengers in the past have been. Like others here, though, I think the stroll among the church pews is kind of questionable.

Do not like use of the church for a political ad.
Won’t back Pelosi or will not vote for her. Two different things. Also very dangerous. Campaign against her and she becomes Speaker and your district is SOL.
The little lie democrat prosecutors won’t tell is the largest single purchaser of opioids is Medicaid.
If Democrats would agree to tighten regulations on Medicaid problem solved, but democrats will never agree to cut medicaid. They would rather keep people hooked on pills and entitlements.

The problem there is the one size fits all solutions they come up with, such as limiting ng the number of prescriptions and making it almost impossible for the people who actually need more. There has to be a middle ground between the all or nothing approaches.

As a born, bred and educated Southern Illinoisan (who reads the NY Times), I think this ad is great. It will play well in heavily Catholic Metroeast, as well as the more rural regions. With a name like Kelley, Notre Dame undergrad and Navy vet what more could you ask for?

d the l, he offered his view, which isn’t very far from my own really.
I’m not naive to Pharma’s fault in the Opioid epidemic at all. I’m also not naive to the fact that Pharma has created live saving drugs as well. I just feel this candidate may have overstepped by saying they “started it”.
Maybe worse than starting it, they fed the beast. That’s worth suing over.

C’mon dude. These were invented for pain management. I’m not sure the intention was for people to get uncontrollably addicted to them or to move them illegally through market chains to people who didn’t need them after painful or traumatic procedures.
Maybe they did and you were there to see their real intent.

15 years ago, oxy helped me through a particularly rough medical time of my life. I was very much informed of the addictive nature of the different body’s by my doctor’s and pharmacists. I wonder where it all went wrong.
