Sorry to interrupt you watching your friends’ stories. I’m JB Pritzker. I’m running for governor and I’ll fight to bring jobs to Illinois and grow our economy.

  1. When you have unlimited money, you run unlimited ads

  2. Cute.

  3. ===you run unlimited ads===

And apparently apologize for the kabillionth one of them. lol

Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 1:02 pm

  4. Don’t know how voters are responding to his internet ads, but Hey JB is kind of a running joke with my 17 year old.

Comment by OneMan Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 1:03 pm

  5. Pointless. Oh how the rich do blow their money.

Comment by Flat Bed Ford Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 1:10 pm

  6. It helps project a nice guy image … good contrast from the attack ads on the other side.

Comment by RNUG Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 1:14 pm

  7. I honestly don’t get the point of this ad. Or what it hopes to accomplish. In other words, why is it taking up space playing on Facebook at all?

Of course, I was also confused a couple weeks ago when I received a text message from “Team JB” that said “Hey Andrea, hope we can count on you in November”. (Spoiler alert: My name is not Andrea or anything remotely close to Andrea.)

Comment by Responsa Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 1:14 pm

  8. I found this kind of charming

Comment by Soccermom Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 1:16 pm

  9. There’s a lot of noise. Doing something novel helps cut through the noise. Its not as though this is their entire media strategy. They are adapting to the medium the ad is running on. It is more memorable and makes him more relatable. Those are both good things.

On the flip side, I can’t imagine Rauner pulling off something like this. He would just sound sarcastic.

Comment by Montrose Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 1:22 pm

  10. I like it. It could get to the demographic that really doesn’t watch television (can’t afford cable) and have their attention spans shaped by social media. They like short bursts.

Comment by LevivotedforJudy Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 1:25 pm

  11. Short and sweet. I liked it but then again I can’t stand Rauner.

Comment by Because I said so.... Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 1:26 pm

  12. He wants to be liked. And it would be refreshing to have a governor that I could like after two decades.

    Comment by A Jack Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 1:26 pm

  13. I always thought it would be a good idea to do an ad like this. Seeing it in real life, it wasn’t as good of an idea as I thought it would be. Still cuts through the usual noise though.

Comment by BucknIrish Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 1:29 pm

  14. Weird, like when Dr. Evil pops up unexpectedly on the screen in the war room.

Plus, you’re not really “sorry” if you’re doing it.

Probably should limit this to Facebook and not run it on some other, um, adult sites where an “interruption” might be particularly startling and unappreciated.

Perhaps you can volunteer more ideas for Pritzger?

    He may already owe you?

  16. Its main asset is its brevity. It’s over before it becomes annoying, and it actually communicates a positive message. I don’t know how effective it will be, but it’s a laudable effort.

Comment by South of Sherman Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 1:38 pm

  17. What Montrose said. It’s for FB/IG story platform. Innocuous and given limitless resources, might as well try.

Comment by Reality Check Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 1:59 pm

  18. JB’s ads have mostly been terrible. It started with ads attacking Trump, then the weird interview ads (Facebook or Twitter?) and now this.

Also, when a candidate for office is morbidly obese, best not to show his full stomach. I think he’s going to win, but it will be in spite of his team, not because of them.

Comment by Krusty Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 2:00 pm

  19. JB sorry to interrupt but what specifically do you propose to bring more jobs and stop the record outmigration from Illinois?

Why do you believe raising taxes on successful businesses big and small will result in more jobs being created?

Comment by Lucky Pierre Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 2:03 pm

  20. Interesting. An unexpected message like this creates a more lasting memory. His handlers are listening to their consulting messaging psychologists. The high end advertising world plays around with this kind of stuff. The media delivery creates a wanted result without need for specific content. A politician’s dream.

Comment by Cook County Commoner Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 2:07 pm

  21. Someone of JB’s size should not be approaching a fleeing camera. Reads more like a bear attack.

Comment by City Zen Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 2:14 pm

  22. ==I honestly don’t get the point of this ad.==

It’s too quickly convey a positive message in a different medium. I mean, I know this is your schtick, but it’s not that hard to figure out.

Comment by Arsenal Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 2:16 pm

  23. I don’t know why, but I like it, soft, and quick. I don’t know if it will garner any votes, but it is positive.

Comment by Uncle Ernie Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 2:41 pm

  24. =Also, when a candidate for office is morbidly obese, best not to show his full stomach=
Krusty, I really wouldn’t call him morbidly obese, I reserve that for Christy. His build has little to do with his ability to govern.

Comment by South Side Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 2:45 pm

  25. If these quick jab ads catch on, Rauner may do one himself. He’ll come in goggle eyed, knee a Madigan dummy, and then put his clothes back on.

Comment by Matty Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 2:50 pm

  26. A sample of 1. My Kid of newly voting age: “He seems nice”.

Comment by West Sider Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 2:50 pm

  27. ==I’m telling you. The guy looks like Babe Ruth in the movie.==

==Someone of JB’s size should not be approaching a fleeing camera. Reads more like a bear attack.==

What’s with the fat jokes? Presumably you two are operating above a 14 year-old’s level of intelligence, I don’t get it. I expect this stuff from Sue because she’s got nothing else to contribute, but surely you guys can do better. There’s a lot you can bash this guy on (can’t go wrong with a good toilet joke), so why resort to the childish?

    Comment by Lester Holt’s Mustache Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 2:51 pm

  28. JB is Fighting to bring jobs to Illinois by raising taxes on businesses

    No specifics necessary.

Trust him, rich people never seek to avoid paying higher taxes

Comment by Lucky Pierre Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 2:53 pm

  29. If pritzkers people were thinking they would have made jb stand in line at the stan mikita service on sunday. I mice shot of a billionaire being an everyday guy paying tribute to a great hockey player cant hurt.

  30. I have a 19 year old daughter and I liked her comment when she saw it.

It looks like this guy is outside but he is carrying a pen. What up with dat?

    Comment by I Miss Bentohs Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 3:14 pm

  31. Your daughter might need glasses. He is clearly inside.

  32. ==What’s with the fat jokes?==

The 1st person perspective shown here comes across as someone large approaching someone backing away in fear. I don’t feel like I’m following him in as much as he’s cornering me.

I’m reminded of Christopher Walken in “The Continental” SNL sketch blocking the door from his fleeing guest.

Comment by City Zen Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 3:19 pm

  33. ===as much as he’s cornering me===

A bit dramatic, don’t you think? Maybe less coffee?

Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 3:21 pm

  34. I like it. I wish all political ads were only 9 seconds.

Comment by JoanP Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 3:25 pm

  35. “adult sites where an “interruption” might be particularly startling and unappreciated”

The image in my mind is just…too funny.

I think it’s okay but it could be annoying to those who already feel inundated by political ads.

Comment by Grandson of Man Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 3:50 pm

  36. No tort reform, no Work Comp reform, negative business legislation you promise to sign on day one, a pledge to raise taxes along with a caving to increase AFSCME pay by at least 3.5% for a 37.5 work week….yeah, you’ll attract a ton of new business

Comment by Taxedoutwest Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 3:54 pm

  37. –If pritzkers people were thinking they would have made jb stand in line at the stan mikita service on sunday–

Maybe they thought about it and decided that attending a memorial service for a political photo pop was in poor taste, at the very least.

Comment by wordslinger Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 3:54 pm

  38. ==No tort reform, no Work Comp reform, negative business legislation you promise to sign on day one, a pledge to raise taxes along with a caving to increase AFSCME pay==

Yes, these are definitely all items that a dem running in an overwhelmingly blue state should focus on in order to get elected as Governor. Tort reform really drives folks to get out there and vote on election day. JB should fire Ms. Caprara and hire this man immediately

    /extremist snarkaholism

    Comment by Lester Holt’s Mustache Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 4:18 pm

  39. An ad that acknowledges how annoying it is to pop up mid-video? I appreciate it.

Comment by millennial Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 4:48 pm

  40. ===Trust him, rich people never seek to avoid paying higher taxes===

    Rauner had multiple homeowner exemptions.

    Sure that was an accident.

Rauner corrected it, but Rauner still did it.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 6:15 pm

  41. Dunno what to think of the ad.

I wouldn’t have done it, looks like a desperate way to continue to be intrusive… politely.

“Sorry to disturb… but vote for me… k?”

I get it, understand the joke… but… not my call.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 6:17 pm

  42. I thought it worked.
But I don’t use the FB, so I’m not really the audience.
But I think “I’m a nice human being” might be part of a reasonably effective defense. With the lead he has, does he need to do more than not be disqualified?

Comment by Ebenezer Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 7:37 pm

  43. I loved it. He is a billionaire, but with that big pot belly, he sure looks almost blue collar. It is so nice, that it made me notice. It’s effective. As a candidate, I am not enthusiastic about him.

Comment by Anonymous Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 9:36 pm

  44. Lester and your mustache, I never said anything about the election, JB will win. I only mentioned with absolutely zero business reform in this state and his track record of doubling down on anti-business legislation, good luck bringing businesses and jobs into this state. Would I ever want his campaign manager’s job? Nope, because only in IL will a candidate for Gov win with a platform to increase taxes, so this election cycle is one and done for Caprara or whomever.
