* As I told subscribers this morning, even the Senate Democrats are now getting into the anti-Madigan act. Here’s Mary Ann Ahern…
Four women running for the Illinois State Senate released new television ads Tuesday - in which three of them took the unusual step of calling on term limits for powerful House Speaker Michael Madigan.
The Democratic candidates - Laura Ellman, Suzy Glowiak, Ann Gillespie and Bridget Fitzgerald - are each running for Republican-held districts in Chicago’s suburbs that voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, leading many to believe they may be among the most likely to turn blue in November.
Though Madigan is leader of the Illinois House, Democratic insiders admit that his power impacts the Senate as well.
Last year, the Senate agreed to a 10-year term limit for its leaders. Senate President John Cullerton has been Senate President since 2009, but the new guidelines apply to him beginning in January 2017 when the Senate agreed to the new term limits.
Also take note of the “no budget, no pay” lines in these spots.

For Ellman’s race against Connelly, perhaps she can use Ives’ statement calling Connelly part of the combine in Springfield. Or better yet, Proft calling Connelly a snake worthy of Benedict Rauner.

If it’s ok for Pelosi, it should be ok for Madigan. The senate doesn’t vote for Speaker and even if they passed the law now, Madigan would still have 10 years.

Those would be great ads for a Democratic candidate for Governor.
You would think a smart candidate would be able to read polls that say Mike Madigan is the most unpopular politician in the state by far.
Democratic primary voters for Governor gave candidates who ran against Mike Madigan 121,880 more votes that the pro Madigan JB Pritzker.

Probably a really good way to move before Brady and his sorts start sending out mail or do cable saying they’re all pawns of Madigan anyway.
They should all show that the GOP caucus will only have two downstate women on Jan 19, they used to have five and one of them was the leader. Don’t suburban women deserve to be at the table? That’s your hit in the year of the woman. GOP doesn’t like women, they’ve purged their own roster of women and replaced them with old white men.
This would be hard to use if Jeanne Ives was their candidate. She could literally fill the female question for the whole roster. Instead they lied and abused a woman to keep her from leading the GOP.

In the swing county these candidates are running in where it is often difficult to articulate the value proposition of voting for one specific state legislator over another, “term limits for mike madigan” is the easiest way to distinguish oneself at the doors as an independent change agent regardless of whether or not that’s true.

At least it appears Laura Ellman is using real tools and looks like working on an actual project. Much unlike that bad Rauner ad from 4 years ago which actually had a plumbing drain pipe upside down

Perspective? 2016…
Mendoza beat Munger.
Both the HGOP and SGOP picked up seats.
Madigan in the Micro is making hay, while Rauner in the Macro is not the best ticket.
These ads are the response to 2016… with Mendoza… and the GA seats…

Three pretty solid introductory ads.
I’ve been skeptical about the ”blue wave” being strong enough to flip those suburban legislative districts. Connelly’s district in particular was gerrymandered as a “packed” GOP district. But if the Senate Dems are able to drastically outspend the GOP (and with no cash coming from Bruce, they just might) I guess anything is possible.

All I have to say is this: Back in the day when I worked legislative campaigns, the Madigan operation never worried if a tactic they used hurt Rock, Emil, or their candidates. In fact, they kinda congratulated themselves when they did.
Any frustration the Speaker or his team have over this need to refer to the dictionary for a definition of “Karma”

President Cullerton could eliminate any hypocrisy whatsoever. Just make it retroactive for both he and the Speaker. At that point, you could take him and this group of candidates seriously.
At the moment, it remains a laughable joke.

Good point, lots of woodworkers sand boards before they cut them with a circular saw. If you don’t see the obvious flaws in that then I’m guessing you never took a shop class.

I was bugged by the line from two of them about no budget-no pay. Courts have ruled you can’t do that. We just spent the last, what, six years, determining that. So don’t promise that. It’s disingenuous. Makes you sound Republican, and not in a positive way.
