Ives says candidates need to make “real arguments,” claims ever-present Madigan angle is “just ridiculous”

Posted in:

* Rep. Jeanne Ives was on WLS’ Big John and Ramblin’ Ray show today

HOST 1: Bruce Rauner’s been on the program a number of times, and I kind of feel for him. But, the ad that he ran against you from the Tribune Editorial Board meeting –

HOST 2: ’She loves Mike Madigan.’

HOST 1: - Was taken so far out of context for even people that follow the news marginally well.

HOST 2: ’When Jeanne Ives was a soccer coach she taught her kids to cheat.’

HOST 1: What does this say about the populous where they buy that nonsense? And this is true of Democratic ads too.

IVES: But they did. But they did buy it. He spent $1.7 million the last four days of the campaign lying about who I was in Central Illinois, and they did not do their research or check it out. So, they know that it’s effective. Which is why now everybody’s tied to Madigan on both sides, I mean it’s just ridiculous. So, people are gonna have to wake up to the reality in their checkbook before we – Republicans are going to have to make arguments, we’re going to have to make real arguments about what’s going on and connect dots for folks. And I think eventually we may get there, but the truth is we’re going to lose more and more people every single year because they’re just going to give up, they don’t care why they just want out.

  1. And her patron Dan Proft isn’t all about cynical attacks that suggest people should give up and get out. Right.

Ives and Rauner deserve each other.

  2. Hey CommandoIves was pluggin’ the secret pork program too so we will resubmit Sen. DeWite’s spin…
Elgin Community College, McHenry County College to receive money for repairs
    9/11/2018

Millions of dollars in capital funding have been released by the Illinois Office of Management and Budget to community colleges across the state. State Senator Donald P. DeWitte (R-St. Charles) says two local colleges, Elgin Community College and McHenry County College, will receive thousands from the Fiscal Year 2019 capital budget.

“The money these colleges will receive was included in this year’s budget and is critical in order for them to move forward with much-needed repairs and updates,” said DeWitte. “Our community colleges provide a great educational path for many students in our area, making it extremely important that we invest dollars toward their improvement needs.”

Elgin Community College will receive $435,725 and McHenry County College will receive $153,130 in state funding. In addition, both colleges will receive local funds bringing their totals to $1,000,000 and $800,000 respectively.

DeWitte says the funds received by Elgin Community College will go toward the purchase of a new chiller for Building B, and funds received by McHenry County College will go toward repairing roof top units, installing new installation, and replacing duct work.

  3. And your comment about the lies that Madigan’s minions tell about Republican House candidates?

  4. She’s not entirely wrong.

However, her biggest problem is that her “ideas” are wildly unpopular.

  5. Ives is right.

But let’s hear some GOP “ideas” — especially from Rauner.

I mean, cripes, I ride Metra, and it’s curerently a mess — broken trains, leaking bathrooms, rarely on time, and conductors who could give a hoot.

So, okay, Metra said — we’re not raising rates, we want money from the state.

So, Rauner — let’s hear it: what’s your plan for Metra (or any mass transit)? What bipartisan deal can you get to improve Chicago mass transit?

  6. I’m thinkin’ she’s not over the campaign yet.

Can she connect the dots between chronic lying and her White House visit?

  7. Strangely I find myself agreeing with a lot of what Ives is saying here. I’m at the completely opposite end of the political spectrum when it comes to her ideas, but I give her credit for owning them and being willing to run on them.

In fairness to Rauner, he didn’t expect to be in this position. He was blinded by his own brilliance and the belief that he would be a successful Governor because in his mind he was always successful. When it became apparent that he couldn’t get any takers for his idea he needed a simple way of rationalizing his failure. “Madigan” was really his only choice because he can’t bring himself to say that he failed or mistakes were made.

  8. If dems are smart they should compare future gop candidates as “the next Bruce rauner”. I doubt the gop would like to run on his legacy.

  9. Well put Pundent. Rauner’s self-described 100% success track record has to be causing him some cognitive dissonance st this point.

  12. A politician has been mischaracterizing opponents? Outright lies in campaign ads? Oversimplification of complicated issues to make a political foe look wildly out of touch? No no no, things like this never happen. Jeanne must be mistaken….

  13. Ives’ best revenge now is to help, passively, to defeat Bruce Rauner.

It’s not her seat is waiting for her back in Springfield…

  14. I wonder why this is seen as a political epiphany. Madigan this, Madigan that, give me four more years and I will give you four more years of that.

  15. I guess this is why Ives remains Madigan’s favorite Republican Governor candidate.

Time for her to grow up.

When the time of Raunerism passes… how others will be remembered when Rauner held the ILGOP hostage will be noted…

    “…Madigan’s favorite Republican Governor candidate.”

I’m embarrassed for you and your own reputation, as you have no embarrassment for either.

  17. Ives is not wrong… She is bitter and it’s because she is a Conservative Republican. She lost to Rauner. Who is for Rauner. Not the Republican party. That said, what a horrible choice for us all this time around.

  18. –I guess this is why Ives remains Madigan’s favorite Republican Governor candidate.–

And 48.6% of GOP primary voters, too.

–Time for her to grow up.–

Does that kind of talk work for you, Mr. Smooth?
