*** UPDATED x1 *** Two new Pritzker ads ask: “Want to see what failure looks like?”

* Press release…

Today, ahead of Bruce Rauner’s desperate “reset” speech, the Pritzker campaign is releasing two new TV ads that show exactly why Bruce Rauner is trying so hard to reframe his inability to lead after four years of failure.

The ads highlight the central failure of Rauner’s tenure: the two-year budget crisis that Illinoisans are still recovering from. “736 Days” focuses on how the crisis hurt local communities by delaying funding for schools and forcing local governments to raise property taxes while “Unpaid” focuses on Rauner racking up over $10 billion in unpaid bills and wrecking state finances.

“From harming local neighborhood schools to forcing property tax hikes and tanking state debt, communities across Illinois are still reeling from Bruce Rauner’s two-year budget crisis, and no single speech can erase the fact that four years of his failure is enough,” said Pritzker campaign communications director Galia Slayen.

Want to see what failure looks like? Because of Bruce Rauner, Illinois went 736 days without a budget, delaying funding for schools while local governments were forced to raise property taxes. Four years of failure is enough.

* “Unpaid”

* Script…

Want to see what failure looks like? When Bruce Rauner took office, Illinois had $6 billion in unpaid bills. But after Rauner’s budget crisis, we had over $16 billion. Bruce Rauner, four years of failure is enough.

A TV-watching buddy told me last night that the :15 spots were played back-to-back.

*** UPDATE *** Despite the claims by the Pritzker campaign (and the fact that I only heard about the spots last night), the Rauner campaign says the ads are not new and have been running since last Thursday.

  2. ‘C’. Typical ad from our two party system.

  3. These are “A” ads.

    Simple, to the point, short, impactful.

    “Skyhook, in reverse” perfection. Well done. This… until October, “Trump”, and a closing argument.

    They are “A” ads.

  4. Sadly, BDD, these things are true, unlike a lot of other malarkey.

    I mean, no, not really.

  7. They dropped these two ads back to back last night between innings of the Cubs and Brewers game. That was a smart buy. I thought the quality and choice to run them when they did both rated an A.

    Illinois knows what failure looks like.

  9. ==Ryan
    Blagojevich
    Quinn
    Rauner==

    The most striking thing to me about this list is that the last three guys all had some weirdo hangup about Mike Madigan.

  10. A-.

    Well-done, simple. Since I’m picky, I’d prefer to see the name “Rauner” in big letters earlier on in the first ad, as I’m not 100% sure that all voters know what he looks like.

    The subject matter choice is wise. Rauner as a budget failure. Pritzker’s numbers don’t add up / he won’t releae them, so it may be reasonable he’ll fail too….so good to get it out there that Rauner has had his chance and failed.

  11. ==Failure wears an ugly plaid shirt.==

    And a carrhart jacket. And a biker vest. And a suit and tie. And a……

    But seriously, these are good spots because they’re short. You pretty much get the whole message before you can reach the remote and change the channel. Saw these running all weekend on local (central IL) outlets during baseball and football games. Also playing in heavy rotation this week on HGTV. I did notice on several occasions these running back-to-back immediately after Bruce Rauner commercials. Not sure if that’s just coincidence? Can you place an ad buy and say “we’ll pay extra for you to run these right after my opponents commercials”?

    Comment by Lester Holt’s Mustache Thursday, Sep 13, 18 @ 1:45 pm

  12. This is not fair. Bruce is suppose to have an under funded opponent who can’t respond and can’t match the Rauner ad buys. Life just isn’t fair.

    Governor Rauner failed.
    Simple message about time.

  14. So we were cool with the previous $6 billion in unpaid bills?

  15. ===So we were cool with the previous $6 billion in unpaid bills?===

    No. That’s a big reason Quinn lost. But rather than try to fix the problem he inherited, he made it much, much worse.

  16. ==So we were cool with the previous $6 billion in unpaid bills?==

    Apparently yes. In fact, some are even more cool with $12 billion - they’re called Raunerites.

  17. What’s not to like? Straight facts in :15 seconds.

    The Democratic Party could have done similar spots after Rauner’s first legislative session. And second. It’s shameful that they did not.

  18. My ad:
    30 seconds, unwavering wide shot of a volcanic, epic dumpster fire. Rauner’s name on the side of the dumpster. No audio until the last 5 seconds;

    “Welcome to another 4 years of Rauner’s Illinois”.
