Londrigan demands Paul Ryan Super PAC ad be taken down

Posted in:

* Press release…

Today, the Betsy Dirksen Londrigan for Congress campaign called out the Congressional Leadership Fund, Paul Ryan’s Super PAC, for lying about her record on healthcare, and sent a letter to TV stations in Illinois’ 13th Congressional District demanding that their false ad be pulled. For a detailed explanation of why the ad is blatantly false, read the Londrigan campaign’s letter HERE and attached below.

“It’s clear that Paul Ryan’s super PAC knows Rodney Davis’s disastrous healthcare record has landed him in real trouble in Central Illinois. This ad is a desperate, fraudulent attempt to distract voters from that truth,” said Emma Brown, campaign manager for Betsy Dirksen Londrigan. “While this group lies about Betsy, here are the facts about Rodney Davis: he voted for a health care repeal bill that would have left tens of thousands of his own constituents without health care, weakened protections for those with pre-existing conditions and charged older Americans more for their care. This is who Rodney Davis has shown himself to be, a career politician who will say anything to distract from his record and try to get re-elected.”

More here.

* The ad in question

Liberal Betsy Londrigan is too expensive for Illinois.

Londrigan’s radical health care plan could put government in control of your care, cost $32 trillion, and nearly double the national debt.

It could end employer-provided insurance – and end Medicare as we know it.

Even doubling your income taxes wouldn’t be enough to pay for her radical plan.

Illinois can’t afford liberal Betsy Londrigan.

  1. lol, “end Medicare as we know it.” Technically if you change one rule, one word of law, you end Medicare as we know it. The point is the make it better, which again, means ending the program as we know it.

  2. It’s nothing but lies, innuendo and half-truths twisted to make Betsy Londrigan appear to be the devil. In other words, typical national political garbage.

Will it be effective? Probably, if people really are morons and will believe anything. More likely, it’ll just be more background noise that makes everyone wish it was November 7th already while they change the channel.

  3. Congressional Republicans have voted repeatedly to repeal protections for people with pre-existing conditions. They have to lie about health care because the truth is a huge election loser.

  4. I get mailers from the Davis campaign at least weekly, that reiterate all of these claims about Londrigan. Obviously their targeting is a bit off.

  5. The demand to take the ad off line is telling. Betsy may not be ready for the big leagues.

  6. –Londrigan’s radical health care plan…–

So she wants to move toward universal healthcare, freeing businesses from the cost of providing health insurance, like the rest of radical Planet Earth?

How will we compete with businesses on Mars and Pluto?

Comment by wordslinger Friday, Sep 28, 18 @ 9:38 am

  7. She is going to lose, a campaign based on a single issue will not work in today’s society. Not that it isn’t an important issue. This isn’t the number one issue in central Illinois, even though it is an emotional one.

    Comment by Taxpayer 1 Friday, Sep 28, 18 @ 9:41 am

  8. Londrigan’s entire campaign rests on free stuff that can’t happen in the real world. She has repeatedly claimed that any votes to repeal and replace the dying Obamacare is opposition to health care coverage.

Eventually Davis would expose her dishonesty and reveal the flaws in her sweet dream. Hoping and promising doesn’t work in the real world, Betsy.

Obamacare couldn’t deliver or remain operational. Your health care promises are even more unrealistic. Ask Vermont. Ask Tennessee. The model for free stuff doesn’t, and has never worked.

  9. Why not sling a few lies about him. I have found that there is no truth in politics.

Comment by ISU Grad Friday, Sep 28, 18 @ 9:48 am

  10. “She’s going to lose.” Yet Rodney keeps responding to her on healthcare issues. Interesting….

  11. Londrigan is a one-note Nelly. Free health care. Emotional stories. She’s a downer. A simple sweet nanny to coddle you from life’s boo-boos.

Enough already. Her plans will choke out the economic boom we’re experiensing. Local businesses “freed” from health care costs will pay even higher taxes for Betsy’s Dream.

    Lord, she thinks we’re simple-minded, doesn’t she?

Your complex mind has run the numbers on the net difference regarding future taxes and current health insurance premium costs for universal healthcare? Please share.

  13. ” a campaign based on a single issue will not work in today’s society.” Tell that to the pro-lifers.

Comment by Skeptic Friday, Sep 28, 18 @ 9:58 am

  14. The GOP has to lie about healthcare because they failed so miserably in dealing with the issue. That Davis hides behind these lies is particularly galling since he’s so prominently featured in the picture at the WH party celebrating the house repeal of the AHCA.

If Davis and the GOP remain in the majority, Medicare and a host of other programs benefiting Illinoisans will be targeted for cuts because of the deficit they created with their giveaway to the wealthy.

Comment by Norseman Friday, Sep 28, 18 @ 10:00 am

  15. The funny thing, Londrigan hasn’t even came out in favor of Single Payer, has only had one ad about healthcare. Still the GOP has successfully painted her as a Berniecrat on this issue

    LOL
Let’s make this easier by you sharing with us all the places where universal healthcare works. No fictional place. Real world.

Not the UK. Not Canada, Not Venezuela. They tried it around the world.

Tell oh genius, out of a half century of dreaming and trying - give us three places it works to the satisfaction of the overtaxed masses trting to live under it.

    Germany? Nope.

Comment by VanillaMan Friday, Sep 28, 18 @ 11:12 am

  17. ===Not the UK. Not Canada, Not Venezuela. They tried it around the world.===

Oh really? Hm. Not a single country that has enacted universal health care has moved to repeal it. People in those countries like having access to free (or free with a modest copay) health care without having to declare bankruptcy or having to choose between eating and paying for health care.

Here, health care bills are the single biggest reason for bankruptcies, and America is the only country on earth where people declare bankruptcy because of health care debt.

Yes, they have tried it around the world. And around the world, people are generally happy with it. When problems arise, as they will in any human system, those problems get addressed, people move on. The Pavlovian “OMG universal health care will end all life as we know it!” response we have in America is deranged.

VMan, I’m not a genius, but I’m smart and curious enough to spend five minutes on the google before tossing baseless tantrums, unlike some.

I’m sure that big open pumpkin of yours is just starving to learn more. Here are some links. Enjoy.

I admire your pledge to refuse all Medicare coverage when the time comes, or Medicaid if you should ever find you need it.

Comment by wordslinger Friday, Sep 28, 18 @ 11:46 am

  20. Also, VMan, I’m certain you’re supportive of Gov. Rauner’s proposal to jack up all you state employees share of health insurance premiums by hundreds of millions of dollars annually.

I mean, you wouldn’t want “free stuff,” would you? The overburdened taxpayers salute you.

Comment by wordslinger Friday, Sep 28, 18 @ 11:59 am

  21. “Londrigan’s entire campaign rests on free stuff that can’t happen in the real world.”

That massive, permanent, no strings attached tax cut for multibillion dollar corporations that’s exploding deficits and shoveling billions of dollars into the pockets of those who need it least, that’s just a figment of our imaginations.

  23. =Londrigan’s entire campaign rests on free stuff that can’t happen in the real world.=
That’s a totally ludicrous statement in light of the wars and tax cuts our nation can “afford”. And yes trolls-to-be, Medicare is administered at the state level but is funded nationally.

Comment by Deadbeat Conservative Friday, Sep 28, 18 @ 12:36 pm

  24. Disasterous. Dangerous. Fraudulent. Decimates.

Standard Democratic talking points to deflect discussion.

Standard rule for Democrats running for office this cycle.

  25. Pot meet kettle. This is the big leagues. This ain’t the PTA. Don’t throw stones (or stretch he truth) if you live in a glass house. The letter from the campaign to the stations is almost comical. Actually goes to show how elitist and out of touch the campaign is. We can make baseless allegations, but if someone dares draw attention to my campaign and the record, well legal action is the next step obviously.

Comment by CentrIL Friday, Sep 28, 18 @ 1:20 pm

  26. ===We can make baseless allegations, but if someone===

Which one of her ads made baseless allegations? I don’t recall one. Maybe I’m wrong. Enlighten me. Or is this just the standard thuggish stuff that needs to end in campaigns?

Comment by Rich Miller Friday, Sep 28, 18 @ 1:24 pm

  27. ==This isn’t the PTA==

Because all women are housewives and spend their time curling their hair and attending PTA meetings.

    I see you.

Comment by Anon Friday, Sep 28, 18 @ 2:33 pm

  28. Louis read what you wrote a couple more times while I try to stop laughing at your silly comment. Londrigan has been focused on real issues on healthcare compared to the misleading baloney spewed by the GOP.

Comment by Norseman Friday, Sep 28, 18 @ 2:50 pm

  29. ===Actually goes to show how elitist and out of touch the campaign is.===

Betsy Londrigan has held thirteen town halls around the district since last spring. Rodney Davis has held exactly zero (unless you count his invite-only appearance with Ivanka Trump), and he hasn’t even held office hours with constituents since May of 2017.

Just who is elitist and out of touch?
