Today, the Rauner campaign is launching a new TV ad titled “Change Doesn’t Come Easy.”
In the ad, Governor Rauner directly addresses the voters of Illinois about how important this election is in the fight for the future of the state. Governor Rauner makes the choice voters face in November clear: “We could give up, and give total control to Madigan, Pritzker and the Machine that made this mess, or do the tough, honest things to save Illinois.”

You sent me to Springfield to fix our state. We’ve done some good. We’ve stopped a lot of bad. But like you, I’m frustrated because we haven’t done enough. After decades of corruption, change doesn’t come easy. We could give up, and give total control to Madigan, Pritzker and the Machine that made this mess, or do the tough, honest things to save Illinois. This might be our last chance.

As Greg Hinz said, it looks like Rauner has resigned himself to losing. This is a horrible ad whose only aim is a failed attempt to say “I tried” and save face with his social circle.

In nearly four years, the dude hasn’t demonstrated that he can competently run a lemonade stand, but claims we’re all doomed without him.
I’m thinking that over the last 200 years people here have been able to muddle through in the face of some pretty severe, at times existencial, challenges.
What an egomaniac this one, for reasons I can’t see.

Once again, attacking others. Once again, having nothing to run on.
Real weak for an incumbent. Compare this with a Kasich or Baker. Baker has high approval ratings and a great ad on his accomplishments.
Rauner caused more per capita damage than any one politician in Illinois history. If anyone should be voted out before it’s too late, it’s Rauner.

Wow, not the inspiring leader I would feel good about voting for! He has nothing to run on, so he simply uses fear, and phrases like “last chance.” He had his chance. He needed to be Charlie Baker. He chose a different path. He could have brought about change, but he failed as a leader. Pure and simple. His time is done. Illinois is ready for real leadership.

Rauner is still not likable, still not compelling, more of a reminder of how much of a failure Bruce is, and the damage he’s done to Illinois.

Successful incumbents need not worry about being any alternative… to themselves.
It’s pathetically sad, it shows an incumbent as an alternative, meaning, “I failed, true, but… “

What are your accomplishments Bruce? Come on, we’ll wait. Name something YOU did. Can’t take credit for something that happened in spite of you. Also, if you use the word “honest”, it only reminds us that you’re NOT honest.

What would a business do to an employee with a four year contract that didn’t do anything and in some cases made the business lose money? Would that business rehire that employee because he has a proven track record of four years of failure?

I think it’s a bad ad if you’re looking to eat into JB’s lead. He’s repeating the same message over and over and that message doesn’t seem to be moving the needle in any significant way.

He comes across like he is completely disinterested and merely reading a script as opposed to someone who has a heartfelt conviction that he is doing his best to accomplish the right things.

Sounds desperate because he is. He’s done a bad job and it is reflected in his polling numbers. I hope this is the last time we will see him on television as governor. If it is really as bad as he says it is, why doesn’t he just move out? I think he has enough cash. I’ve lived here my whole life, I like Illinois and don’t want to go anywhere.

This is a feeble ad that smacks of desperation, and stars a Governor that is profoundly unpopular. It says, “Remember me, the guy you can’t stand? I haven’t done anything specific worth mentioning in my own ad”. Is he trying to lose?

We’ve done some good (for me and others on the northshore cocktail party circuit). We’ve stopped a lot of bad (public sector employees from getting their step raises).

What amazes me about Rauner was how steadfast he was in his belief that the “change” he wanted was the “change” we wanted. His failure lies in his unwillingness to acknowledge that he could never get the 60/30 needed to embrace his ideas. This was never about “Madigan.” It was always much bigger than that.
