Aren’t these the wiz-kids that determined there is only $54.2 million in “wasteful spending” in the state’s $38.5 billion GRF budget?
A rounding error of a rounding error?
Rauner should be running on that amazing efficiency and lack of wasteful spending.

OK, here I go. The k-12 schools don’t need anymore money. What they need is elimination of the antiquated school funds buckets. We have one budget and should be able to spend money as we need to. Public health option would fiscally ruin this state, just look at Vermont and why they bailed on the public option. We can’t afford universal preschool and it doesn’t produce enhanced educational outcomes. Instead call it daycare and find a way to fund it without robbing education.

I’d like to see Pritzker go after the math for Rich’s numbers, just to get an idea on the thinking of the wonks in that Campaign Crew.
The wonks have had it pretty easy, publicly, and must be pulling their hair out privately how Pritzker got boxed so easily with exacting policy.
We’ll know more in January, if Pritzker wins.
I’d guess a “Thompson pivot” first will be in order to bridge the time lag between January 2019 and January 2021, if a progressive tax passes all hurdles.

Bears came back down to Earth. Lousy game from two teams playing at a very mediocre level.
No pash rush to speak of from the Bears. When Brock, Old Man Gore and Co. pile up more than 500 yards of offense against you, maybe your D ain’t the second coming of ‘85.

The Bears game yesterday was maddening. Two red zone turnovers, a porous defense that gave up a big play late in the 4th quarter and the missed FG in overtime.

Yesterday was a real team effort in Miami. All three phases of the game played like it was still the bye week.
Somebody ought to tell the team that the window for a championship is incredibly narrow in the NFL. There’s lots of parity and lots of mediocrity and when you have a chance, you’ve got to go all-in.
The Bears laid a giant egg. They better wake up soon and start playing some football. We don’t get to play Tampa Bay every week and guess who’s coming to town next?

The Bears have a rookie coach and a quasi-rookie QB. And it showed yesterday. They need at least a year together. And Mitch has to make his throws more consistently.
They had 2 weeks to prepare for the fins. Just what did the team work on during its bye week?

To the NFL open thread -
For many years a friend and I had season tickets for the Cardinals. I moved from the area, but my friend bought a PSL for the Rams and never missed a game. And I remained a fan as well, but only saw a few games in the Dome.
Since the Rams relocated I have lost all interest, as has my friend, and, given the changes these past few years, have no interest in following the Billionaire owners or the multi-millionaire players of a “sport” that is hardly relevant any more to my life or my sanity.

Refs thought it was a basketball game in Miami! Home team calls all day, I.e. clock expired twice, invisible pick play, etc.

Generally it seems Bears fans are the most critical and least optimistic of any set of Chicago sports fans.
Any time something doesn’t go great it is the end of all time…
In a Thompson pivot, does anyone else think the IHSA should move away from conference play for football and to a district system like other states use. It might reduce some of the conference hopping we are seeing now and makes the playing field more level for smaller schools in big school conferences.

Bears, come on. just giving more fodder to those Miami fans (and players) who can never stop talking about their 1985 win vs. Bears. and KC, you still are a contender but I was so hoping you could wipe the smirk off Brady’s face. also really interesting watching lineups of players this weekend. the racial makeup of the players on the field shows how heartless and clueless the President is re the knee thing. reminds of a Tweet seen today….Trump uses rhetoric for poor white men and makes policy for rich white men.

Never PC and dont forget the kids that get thrown in to the special ed designation (funds) that are a discipline issue not slow learners. Millions a year goes into that fund to “keep them at grade level” far more additional staff needed to mamage the load ….the ugly truth is many districts dont know what to do so they put them there. Meanwhill back to the Bears lack of ability to close the deal in tight games. Coaching staff has gagged on late game play calling. Example in the Packs game and the Fish game…. do what you did the rest of the game. Or you coud run the Veer.(snark)… the pile of bodies takes 2 mins to un do and the game is over. Anyone at Halas still have Robby Goulds number ?

You’re not kidding. Nothing against Mitch, truly, who for no good reason was taken with the No. 2 pick, but Mahomes is way more polished, after fewer NFL starts.
Going mano-a-man in Foxboro against Brady is a real heavy lift.
I like Rams/Chiefs Super Bowl right now.

As I’m watching Aaron Rodgers do his thing — again — I’m reminded of the Bears’ fans burden.
Since 1992, the Packers starting QB for virtually every game has been either Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers.
Consider all the great Bear QBs since 1992 (or in their history). Or one of them.
That’s some Cheesehead mojo.
