Question of the day

Posted in:

* Remember “Uncle Rob”? He’s not really my uncle, but I’ve talked about my friend here several times. Rob’s been an educator most of his adult life and now he’s running for Madison County Regional Superintendent…

That is one sweet-looking yard sign. You can learn more about Rob’s campaign by clicking here.

* Many years ago, I helped designed this yard sign for my brother Doug who lives in Texas…

I was pretty proud of that sign, but the “M” wasn’t visible at night because of the blue background. So, it looked like “Doug Iller” was running for council.

Oops.

* I liked this one so much I had it framed…

* And I bought this window sign/poster (not sure which it is) on eBay. It’s autographed by himself…

* You can always tell when there’s a strong ward or township organization when you see yard signs neatly arranged down the street like this…

* The Question: What are your own favorite yard signs?

  5. Larry Woolard had these cream colored signs with his face and name on them in red ink that made him look like Boxcar Willie. But that was back in 2000.

  6. I thought it was cool when Rich posted the campaign bill for George “Save a Million” Harding from 1926. It was pasted to a brick wall and uncovered during a building demolition.

Harding, a friend of Mayor “Big Bill” Thompson was elected Cook County Treasurer by a narrow margin upheld by a recount.

  7. In Berrington Hills there is a guy running for City Council in the early 2000. His sign showed a jazz player underneath the lamp post with a saxophone. I’m prettysure his name was horn but I really don’t remember!!

  12. LeRoy Van Duyne had orange signs with black writing and they were EVERYWHERE in Joliet back in the day. Always posted illegally on the side of the road or, my particular favorite, stapled to telephone poles. They never seemed to come down.

  15. There’s a lawn in Wilmette right now that has a dozen yard signs and a dozen Halloween gravestones.

It all blends very well. I won’t say which party, but either way, it seems appropriately ghoulish.
