More dissonance on Rauner’s right flank

Posted in:

* Rep. Jeanne Ives told Greg Hinz this

I definitely think there will be a change in leadership of the party after Rauner loses

After he loses?

* Ives appeared on NewsTalk 97.1 FM this afternoon and the host said “It seems as though the Republican Party in the state of Illinois is in a massive amount of disarray right now.” Ives’ response

Oh, no doubt. You have Republicans all over the place… The Republican Party is in complete disarray. Let’s face it, Rauner is going to lose, in my estimation.

* Meanwhile…

A statehouse Republican puts out a press release to say he's not voting for the Republican @GovRauner. @ILGOP Rep. @AllenSkillicorn backs Libertarian @KashJackson2018 for Governor. Skillicorn backed @JeanneIves in the primary.

* DPI…

“Bruce Rauner spent months cozying up to Donald Trump and adopting his policies, but in the end, he has just wasted time trying to win back a base that wants nothing to do with him,” said DPI Statewide Communications Director Sam Salustro. “Rauner’s lies and failures have proven too much for Jeanne Ives, Allen Skillicorn, and conservative voters across the state to forgive. As Rauner closes out his failed campaign, Republicans are already planning for a future that doesn’t include him.”

…Adding… He says he’s no “silent partner”

Governor Bruce Rauner takes some opposition to a Facebook video posted by his Democratic election opponent JB Pritzker that essentially paints President Donald Trump and Rauner with the same brush.

The video in part refers to Trump as a “misogynist” — and Rauner as Trump’s “local silent partner.” Rauner tells WGIL he’s no “silent partner” — but that doesn’t mean he’s completely anti-Trump.

  3. Here I thought I didn’t have a party *with* Raunerism…

    … I can get Proft/Ives/Uihlein vs. Ricketts/IMA/Griffin…

    … or none of that plays out and they divide the shell corp formerly known as Rauner’s GOP, sponsored by Diana’s social agenda.

    I’m waiting to see where a person like me can feel welcome and part of the building. I’m “on the outside looking in” to those not seeing a voter like me as a “desired Republican”

    That’s fun.

  8. As a Democrat, I’m going to enjoy election night around 8:45 when everyone calls the race for J B.. but, I’m going to REALLY ENJOY watching the the inner fighting within the R party starting on the 7th!!!

  9. So Skillicorn is supporting the guy who allegedly abused his ex and definitely skipped out on his child support obligations? That seems about right.

  11. Skillicorn and Kash should run together on an anti-child-support platform. “Sometimes it takes a couple of deadbeats to get a state off life support.”

  12. Ms Ives seems to forget that as she plans the takeover of the party, she will be an elected official out of office whose claim to fame is the Proft homophobic ad. She forgets that once out of office nobody will listen to her and most donors think she is a whack job. Griffen is a moderate. If Proft doesn’t deliver he’s done too. Increasingly irrelevant players who aren’t smart enough to see that you can’t win in this state just with “conservative” votes.

  13. == watching the the inner fighting within the R party starting on the 7th!!! ==

    I think that has already started.

    If these parties are already maneuvering behind the scenes, you can bet they have Zero expection of Rauner winning.

  15. The party goes from dysfuncfional to an all out free fall if Jeanie Ives, Skillacorn or anyone like them takes the reigns as the non whack jobs will most assuredly sit that one out. A freak show ensues. Relics of a bygone last. Scary to any intellectual conservative.

    Why do you think the moderates all headed for the exit? Rauner is simply a bully and inept; these folks are true believers who take the brand to an unrecognizable place and a permanence in the low 20’s in terms of participation.

    Count MANY among the homeless politically.

  16. I don’t agree with Ives on much but I agree with here here, Rauner is going to be a one term Governor.

  17. In this case, the enemies of my enemy are not my friends. I lean moderate, if that is actually leaning, and I find this litmus test (HT: OW) for defining what is a Republican baffling and scary. I have voted for candidates from both parties, believing, perhaps naively, the most articulate and adept at compromise would be ultimately best suited to represent the interests of all the people.

    Comment by My New Handle Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 8:37 am

  18. That “litmus test” is called the Illinois Republican Platform.
