* Bruce Rauner campaign fundraising e-mail…

Rich,

It’s officially November and we are 5 DAYS OUT FROM ELECTION DAY!

Some news I didn’t want you to miss…

Barack Obama has been campaigning in close races all over the country to help Democrats deliver the “blue wave,” and now news broke that Obama is coming to Chicago to help JB Pritzker!

Pritzker’s been talking a big game about bringing the “blue wave” to Illinois, but we are closing strong and have the momentum and it’s clear he needs some BIG help.

We know that no one fires up Democrats like Obama, so I need your help to beef up our efforts in the final stretch to make sure every single one of our supporters gets to the polls!

Can you chip in $10, $25, $50, $100 or whatever you can afford to help us in this final stretch?

Let’s send a strong message to Pritzker — we don’t want a “blue wave,” we want LOWER TAXES, MORE JOBS, AND AN END TO CORRUPTION.

On to victory!

Anthony Sarros
Political Director

Obama was already planning a rally in nearby Gary, Indiana, so I just don’t see this as “ZOMG! Barack is flying in to bail out the tanking JB=jailbird!” He does these rallies in the city every four years, sometimes more.

  2. The Obama appearance is all about turnout for Casten, Underwood and Raoul.

The Rauner spin, as always, is pathetic.

  3. ===We know that no one fires up Democrats like Obama===

… so we admit that this will help Pritzker?

Fundraising off of the popular native son former president… to claim it’s getting close… dunno many who believe all of that, but admitting Obama’s visit helps Pritzker isn’t great.

Barack Obama has been campaigning in close races all over the country to help Democrats deliver the “blue wave,” and now news broke that Obama is coming to Chicago to help JB Pritzker!==

This could have been used verbatim in an e-mail from the Pritzker camp.

Also, I’m pretty sure the Pritzker camp is comfortable with the message that “this ain’t over, you still need to GOTV.”

  6. As someone said in social media about this, bring out the closer, no matter the score.

But there will be a contrast in the rallies, where Pritzker will appear with Obama and Rauner wasn’t with Trump or even mentioned by him.

The early voting totals already exceeded the entire 2014 election, and they’re up in Chicago and Cook County. Did Rauner just say Trump is not on the ballot? Perhaps it’s Trump who’s helping drive up turnout, including many who want a check on him. Same as it ever was.

  7. While I was never a fan of the Obama Presidency, I have to say he is one of the great speakers of our time. He has the ability to fire up a crowd like few other. He will help Pritzker as well as down ballot democrats.

  10. Also… this is for JB. AND for Casten. And Underwood. And Kwame.

But, sure, Bruce. Its because JB is struggling.

  13. It’s the new wave of fundraiser that everyone is using. Here’s one from the Dems last week

    Team,
Tomorrow, Donald Trump is coming to IL-12. (You can chip in to our campaign before he gets here, right now!)
It’s his second visit to our district, and he’s coming only 10 days out from Election Day. The goal of this visit is simple: The White House wants to rally Mike Bost’s supporters so they turn out to vote for him, and they want to overwhelm our grassroots campaign’s momentum by gobbling up media attention.
This is a one-point race, and any single factor could make or break it — so I won’t sugarcoat it. It is absolutely critical that we do not allow Trump and Bost to stall our momentum, team.
To keep it up and then surge to a lead, we need to ramp up our voter outreach efforts on the ground and we must increase our presence on TV. And we’ve set a big, important fundraising goal to do it: We need to raise $20,000 by Trump’s visit.
That’s a lot of cash, team, but I trust that this grassroots team can get us there. Can you make a donation of any size right here, right now, to make sure Trump doesn’t win this race for Bost?

  18. I don’t get why anyone would write a $100 check to either JB or Rauner. These guys are both writing their own checks for millions.

Also, what are they hoping to use the money on less than a week out? Most of the spending has occurred.

  23. Down-ballot Democratic candidates would have nothing to worry about if voters still had the option for the straight-party punch. The fact is that Democratic voters are more likely to vote just at the top of the ticket than Republican voters. Consequently, while Democrats win at the top, GOP candidates farther down ballot can win in the same precincts.

If Madigan regains his super-majority, I can’t think of a reason the Democrats would not restore the straight-party punch.

  24. Does anybody else find it odd that 1.4%’s political director never mentioned who the donation was to help elect?

I don’t know it is CapFax editing or what, but the above email never mentions 1.4%’s name. It says
“… he needs some BIG help. …”

    Well, who is “he”?

Comment by Huh? Thursday, Nov 1, 18 @ 12:08 pm

  25. anon2, the Democrats controlled the general assembly and the Governor’s office for 12 years and didn’t restore straight ticket voting. Why do you think they would now?

Second, since it was eliminated, the House democrats have held on to the majority in every single election that has taken place. Two Republican governors and two republican senators have been elected in that time. Not sure that either part of your theory holds water.

  27. Who was voting for Rauner that will now vote for Pritzker because Obama came? My guess is no one.

But good work rallying the Trumpers which is the only way you loose. Start losing rural counties 60-40 and even Rauner has a chance.

  30. –Start losing rural counties 60-40 and even Rauner has a chance.–

The math doesn’t work that way. The link below should help those who think in terms of votes and counties.

Fifteen counties have fewer than 10,000 people. More than half have fewer than 20,000.

It’s crazy that the Illinois GOP doesn’t compete all out in Cook County. They really don’t have a choice, going forward.
