  1. Her Wednesday roundup of Rauner’s blow out loss should be one to watch..

Comment by Anonymous Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:00 pm

  2. Ives and Proft, with Uihlein cash, being sprinkled in legislative races here and there, and probably towards some state central committeemen…

Ives and Proft want the abandoned brand.

    Who is gonna stop them?

Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:03 pm

  3. She’ll be the midday host on Proft’s radio station, AM 560 or whatever it is. You know, the station for listeners who think Rush Limbaugh and the other hosts on WLS are too liberal.

Comment by Roman Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:05 pm

  4. I don’t know if this is common, but just seeing an advisory saying “I’m available for interviews during the entirety of these days. My schedule is TOTALLY clear” does not send a confident message.

If she is really angling to be a party leader, she should be campaigning for her candidates all the way up to the last minute and putting the focus on them. Will failed down-ballot candidates be thankful for an “I told you so” media tour? As if her pro-Trump, anti-everyone social issues campaign would have won the majority of Illinois voters in the general…

Comment by NIU Grad Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:05 pm

  5. Even the guy running coordination between the Pritzker and Casten campaigns won’t be as happy as Jeanne Ives if they both win.

Comment by Arsenal Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:06 pm

  6. It would appear she is still trying to be relevant. I guess her 15 minutes of fame is not over yet. Or she is trying desperately to extend it.

Comment by illini Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:07 pm

  7. ==I guess her 15 minutes of fame is not over yet.==

Nope. If the results go the way most of us expect, she’ll get plenty of media hits.

Comment by Arsenal Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:08 pm

  8. I do not think she will be particularly relevant long once Rauner is done. If she were to run against a genuine Republican like Dillard she would lose soundly.

Comment by JS Mill Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:11 pm

  9. Anyone who challenges an incumbent in a primary, gets massively outspent, and still gets 48.5% - that person is running again for that same office if the incumbent loses.

Assuming Raoul wins for AG, it’s an Ives-Harold primary for governor in 2022.

Comment by DarkHorse Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:11 pm

  10. Proft and Amy Jacobson on AM560, quite a pair.

Comment by James the Intolerant Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:12 pm

  11. When the Rauner folks get sent packing the party will land in the hands of Ives and Proft. They will turn the ILGOP into bastion for Trumpism. The conservative base will be overjoyed. but their first election cycle (2020) will be occurring at the peak of anti trumpism in Illinois. Trump gets swept out of office, along with more gop candidates, and in that wake Ives goes tumbling down, allowing a better candidate to emerge and run against JB in 2022.

Ives will burn out, her biggest mistake was striking so early, shes a flash in the pan and she is not fit to be at the top of the ticket for the ILGOP.

Comment by Iggy Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:12 pm

  12. I’m with Iggy on this one. Ives and Proft will take over as defacto leaders and ignite a consistent salvo of infighting. The state GOP will slip back into irrelevancy ahead of being gerrymandered off of the board.

Comment by NIU Grad Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:14 pm

  13. ===Ives can discuss a number of issues, including her election predictions, election results, and next steps for the ILGOP===

She’ll also reveal her picks for the Northwestern-Notre Dame and Bears-Bills games and handicap the Breeders Cup, followed by a rare, live horoscope reading and use her spiritual medium power to relay your personal messages to deceased friends and family in the great beyond.

Space is limited so call now.

    Comment by 47th Ward Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:17 pm

  14. Maybe Congress in 2020 if Casten wins?

Comment by Plainfielder Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:17 pm

  15. At the rate this country is going?

    POTUS

Comment by AlfondoGonz Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:20 pm

  16. Our very own Sarah Palin

    Comment by Cheryl44 Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:22 pm

  17. Ives can discuss a number of issues but is especially strong on the threat posed by transgenders showing up at our doors.

Comment by GOPgal Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:23 pm

  18. To paraphrase, other than Tuesday between the hours of 11:00 - 5:00 when Ives will be figuring out how to stay relevant in the future, her schedule is wide open.

Comment by Pundent Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:29 pm

  19. Is there any chance she’ll make friends with Todd Ricketts? No snark. That might be an interesting dynamic to watch. He’s kind of acting as a bridge between Trump and the establishment GOP funders right now nationally. The same sort of bridge is needed for the Illinois GOP.

If nothing else, she could teach him a lesson in how to reach conservative voters. Running “vote Republican” ads on MSNBC and during reruns of “Blackish,” as his Super PAC is currently doing, probably won’t get the job done.

Comment by BC Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:35 pm

  20. Who cares? Does her opinion have any merit at all? I fail to see her relevance.

Comment by Retired Educator Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:36 pm

  21. This is why she is Mike Madigan’s favorite Republican, she makes Illinois Republican’s look like narrow minded intolerant blowhards.

The Republican party needs some grown ups to step forward and shut downs the clown show of Ives and her handler Proft. A lot of her vote was just anti-Rauner. The real question is how much of her vote was pro-Jeanne. After this election (assuming the worst), will Republican’s want to win or go down with Colonel Kurtz. I sure hope a Karen McConnaughay steps up and makes my party sane again.

Comment by Turner Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:38 pm

  22. Snack, naptime, and repeat?

Comment by Cornfield Cowboy Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:38 pm

  23. ==Trump gets swept out of office==

    Trump will probably win re-election.

But he’ll probably get killed in IL again.

Comment by Arsenal Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:40 pm

  24. Yeah. Senator O’Malley did the same thing. Losing somehow=winning. Proft has raised and spent $56 million and never flipped a seat. Let that sink in Ms Ives.

    Comment by 19th Ward guy Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:40 pm

  25. Tuesday she will be announcing she has been selected by the Florida Orange Juice Council as their National spokesperson.

Comment by Al Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:47 pm

  26. –What’s Jeanne Ives’ next step?–

First out of the box to grab the leadership banner of the GOP, and dare anyone to try to take it from her.

Why wouldn’t she? Who wouldn’t, after receiving 48.6% of the primary vote against an incumbent?

Illinois is going through some party realignments that much of the rest of the nation have already experienced.

Watch the votes from the Collar Counties (Dems up/GOP down) and Southern Illinois votes GOP up/Dems down) for confirmation.

    Guess where more voters live?

Comment by wordslinger Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:53 pm

  27. Rauner wins: double down on previous ideas, Republicans get killed in 2020.
Rauner loses: double down on previous ideas,
    Republicans get killed in 2020.
    Classic Ives/Proft strategy.

    Comment by ste_wit a v_en Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 12:56 pm

  28. This could be the start of a four year campaign for governor. Get the press following you, constantly criticize the incumbent over absolutely everything while playing coy as to your actual agenda. If she really wants to be governor, that is her best chance.

Comment by Ducky LaMoore Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 1:00 pm

  29. The first people to dump Ives and McCann after the election fall-out will be the folks that encouraged them.

Comment by Anonymous Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 1:10 pm

  30. >>The first people to dump Ives and McCann after the election fall-out will be the folks that encouraged them.

Comment by Anonymous Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 1:14 pm

  31. She will get many ‘I told you’ moments in the next four years. JB wont get the tax revenue he needs to fufill the promises he made. And with Mendozas truth in transparency regarding bill paying, JB must stay current on vendor backlogs.

Comment by Blue Dog Dem Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 1:19 pm

  32. Al. I laughed out loud at your post. Great reference.

Comment by TominChicago Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 1:26 pm

  33. Probably dreaming about being on Fox News “The Five” but in reality her ceiling is guest host on Joe Walsh show.

    Comment by Natty_B Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 1:37 pm

  34. That’s some motivated reasoning right there OW.

Blaming it on his new staff dramatically overstated how much staff decisions have an effect on public opinion. They weren’t even around to do much.

His polling tanked because he lost the budget fight. The two years of delay produced no results and Republicans broke ranks to hand him a legacy defining defeat.

The public cares much more about that than they do internal power struggles.

Comment by Political Animal Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 1:41 pm

  35. Oh, and let’s not forget that crushing defeat was engineered by Z and his pet.

Comment by Political Animal Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 1:41 pm

  36. ===The public cares much more about that than they do internal power struggles.===

Tell that to Diana Rauner, LOL

No, it’s measured, been discussed here, even cataloged with a calendar… BTIA(tm)… far worse, and lasted in a much shorter time.

Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 1:44 pm

  37. Ives and Proft are a dream team from a Dem perspective. Trumpism can’t win Illinois, and Trumpism without Trump is nowheresville.

Comment by Molly Maguire Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 1:48 pm

  38. I’ve got an elderly, grouchy uncle that “can discuss a number of issues.”

The real question is do you want to be part of that discussion. The answer would be no, no you don’t want to be part of that discussion.

    Comment by Chris P. Bacon Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 1:48 pm

  39. GOPgal — I know you’re making a joke, but I had all kinds of crazy characters showing up at my door and making demands on Wednesday night…

Comment by Soccermom Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 2:08 pm

  40. And just to be clear, I was making fun of Ives’ ludicrous fears of the “other”.

Comment by Soccermom Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 2:11 pm

  41. Guessin’ on 11-7 commando Ives will be available 24-7 and will pick up your on line Walmart orders on the way over. Ask Perry Fitzgerald about how to get out of demand

Comment by Annonin' Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 2:17 pm

  42. She’ll sink back into the obscurity from which she slithered.

    14:50, 14:51, 14:52…

Comment by Northsider Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 2:23 pm

  43. ==Blaming it on his new staff dramatically overstated how much staff decisions have an effect on public opinion.==

Yes. But the problem was it was a big signal to reporters and statehouse insiders (who then went and talked to reporters) that all was not well in Rauner-land.

Comment by Arsenal Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 2:57 pm

  44. Perhaps she will relocate to Russia in search of more kindred spirits?

Comment by Arthur Andersen Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 3:14 pm

  45. With Proft and Ives has the perceived head of the Republican party it is doomed.

Comment by Flat Bed Ford Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 3:54 pm

  46. Next step? Join Rep. Tom Morrison’s letter asking for leniency for convicted child abuser Tom Chantry?

Comment by no comprendo Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 4:01 pm

  47. Wheaton mayoral candidate vs. Evelyn Sanguinetti

Comment by Right Field Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 4:10 pm

  48. Ives will be like illinois’s Rick Santorum. I.e., someone who believed that they built a political base but will be comletely forgotten by GOP voters next election season.

Comment by Ike Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 4:27 pm

  49. ==Wheaton mayoral candidate vs. Evelyn Sanguinetti ==

More likely Congressional Candidate in the 6th Congressional District against Evelyn Sanguinetti and Peter Breen. Who will OW support?

Comment by Wheatonite Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 4:29 pm

  50. God forbid Ives ever needs a blood transfusion. Her list of acceptable donors might make it very difficult.

Comment by don the legend Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 4:36 pm

  51. - Wheatonite -

    I don’t live in the 6th

Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 4:36 pm

  52. ==I don’t live in the 6th==

    Nor Jason Plummer’s district

Comment by Turner Friday, Nov 2, 18 @ 4:47 pm

  53. What’s Ives’s next step? Obscurity, of course.
