Today’s Underwood number: 93 percent

Posted in:

* This is from a few days ago, but I kept forgetting to post it

Since Sept. 1, Pritzker has aired 20,199 ads on TV, and Rauner has shown 16,726 ads, according to figures provided by Advertising Analytics, which tracks ad buys. […]

But the numbers from the race between Hultgren and Underwood may be the most striking according to Advertising Analytics.

Since Sept. 1, Underwood has outspent Hultgren three-to-one: She spent $4.4 million to his $1.4 million. Just as striking is that Underwood’s campaign and Democratic support committees are responsible for 93 percent of the ads that have been on television in that race, 3,577 by Underwood and just 257 by Hultgren.

If Republican voters could sue for political malpractice, Randy Hultgren would be penniless after this election - even if he wins.

Also, Gov. Rauner has been complaining about being outspent by $100 million, but that money has obviously gone into stuff other than TV ads.

  1. Poor Bruce. He outspent Quinn last election and what’s good for the goose . . . .

    Indeed.

I saw his “negative” spot on Underwood at the tavern last night. The sound was off.

It featured many shots of Underwood with a big smile on her face.

Dude — your ad peeps got stuff for brains. Those visuals are not “negative” by any stretch of the imagination.

  3. If Hultgren wins… that’s not even a clear foregone conclusion, Randy needs to re-shuffle the deck, spend money on a Crew working to constantly be the ones no one can out hustle.

It’s such gross malpractice, it’s borderline mailing it in, even with Proft yesterday.

Hultgren has no one to blame here. Any semblance of a campaign would’ve done.

    We’ll see if there’s a tomorrow.

  4. Hultgren was heard to say that after the Ocasio primary win upset, he wasn’t taking anything for granted this election. Guess he wasn’t serious about that statement, but he should have taken his own advice. Seems like he was squirreling away campaign $$$, assuming he’d win and end up being some DC or Illinois Republican powerbroker. If he manages to pull this one out, he’ll still have some reckoning to contend with.

  5. Laura Underwood is my favorite of this campaign season, she’s done a great job and attracted the best in support.

Word, you forget that for Republican “base” voters - i.e., Trump supporters - being black and a woman is negative enough

  7. It sure seemed that Hultgren phoned it in. This is supposed to be a safe spot for him, but the lack of effort is surprising.

  8. Hultgren is the epitome of a DuPage Republican, complacent and thought he could support Trump as much as he want at the expense of his constituents and the magic R would protect him.

Unless he wins by a large margin, he has guaranteed a more serious challengers for the rest of his career. Underwood just showed he can be defeated.

  10. Joe, they ain’t the Pate/Phil Crane/Henry Hyde suburbs anymore.

For crying out loud, Raja, Foster and Schneider have safe seats now. The times, they have-a-changed.

  11. I just voted for Underwood. I don’t think I have ever been more glad to vote for someone in my life. Hultgren has been MIA since he won in 2010 and was already a career politician before that. Drain the swamp!

  12. I read recently that Randy Hultgren has one of the lowest name-recognition among House Republicans. I would be embarrassed to be part of the Hultgren team. “Political malpractice” indeed.

  13. Totally agree on malpractice, but I think Hultgren is a Kane Co. R.

And those seats are safe due to districts drawn in a way that would have made Gov. Gerry blush..

  15. Too little, too late?

Now Congressman Randy Hultgren is airing long radio spots for his re-election. Seriously, this has to be the worst campaign by a Congressional incumbent since Phil Crane lost to Melissa Bean by ignoring polls and not appearing in his district for months on end.

Keep kidding yourself and playing the victim.

  17. Maybe Randy was unaware voters could decide on a candidate or even vote prior to today. Or maybe he thinks he is Jesse White who only needs to run a couple of ads for the heck of it. So running ads only on the last two days made sense to Randy.
