Pritzker also told The 21st he hopes to sit down with Rauner — a man his campaign relentlessly attacked as a failure.
“Well of course I want to hear about where he thinks the hills are that we may need to climb,” Pritzker said. “Of course we may disagree on policy, but I think he probably wants the best for Illinois, and I do too certainly, and so I think we’ll have a lot to talk about.”

Bruce will assume that it is actually Madigan dressed up as JB and may come to the realization that there is no JB it was Madigan the whole time and then Bruce will likely move to Italy but will still know that the gondola driver is actually Madigan keeping tabs on him.

I hope and encourage the meet, want it to happen to discuss things like school funding and criminal justice reform, two things Pritzker could find interesting from Rauner’s perspective and looking forward
In reality, a photo op of both men helps Rauner far more than Pritzker.
It makes Rauner seem less negative.

I suspect they will keep it pretty positive.
The problem is that I don’t think Rauner learned much from his time as Gov. He’s probably the only candidate who seemed to understand government better before he took office than while he was in it.

Rauner will give the same speech he’s been giving for five years. He will blame Madigan for every problem in State history and claim that everything wiould be great if Pritzker could just pass Rauner’s anti-union reforms. Pritzker will listen politely, and consider the meeting a waste of time other than by being able to say that he reached out to Rauner.

It gives Rauner relevancy. It suggests he has something to actually give JB. As some have already stated, the Guv hasn’t learned anything on the job, certainly nothing JB doesn’t already know or can get from members of his transition team (especially Edgar and Manar).

There’s a lot of truth in this. For Rauner this was all about getting a return on his investment. And right now the returns are abysmal. But Rauner is, if nothing else, resourceful when it comes to making a buck. My money is on him trying to figure out how he can leverage what’s he’s learned to make back what he’s lost.

Rauner was all about getting a return on his investment? LOL
He could have put his over a hundred million in the stock market and watch it go up 40%, while sitting on a beach somewhere.
It might have been easier that warring with Democrats for the past 4 years.

nothing will happen at the meeting. P will pretend he’s interested in what Rauer has to say, Rauner will pretend that P actually cares what he has to say.
it’s a pro forma demonstration of bipartisanship on P’s part, strictly for naive reporters and citizens to consider gentlemanly behavior.
PR gesture that is otherwise a complete waste of time.

Is it just me or does it seem like JB is too concerned with trying to please and be liked by everyone?
The meeting may happen, but nothing substantive wil come out of it.
I think even JB is in for a rude awakening when he realizes just how reckless Springfield has been for decades when it comes to finances.

That is what went through my mind when I read the question. I’m a pretty optimistic person who has been accused of finding good when there is none. When I reflect on Rauner’s four years, I come up empty handed. (And, I can come up with good things for every governor going back to Ogilvie.) It’s hard to imagine what Rauner has to offer up for the good of the state. If he’s got something, where was he hiding it?
I appreciate JB’s gesture, but what does Rauner have to offer other than an overview of the circuit breaker box, the cable channels, and where the emergency key is hidden.
Maybe JB will give Bruce a new patch for his vest.

Besides talking about how difficult it is to find good servants to maintain your mansions, I think JB will attempt to give Rauner a chance to do something positive for the state of IL. A lame duck session to pass something that matters (what I don’t know), and show Rauner was not out to destroy the state.
